Fancy $30 Christmas puddings at Whole Foods

Italian Food Imports (aka the Italian deli) usually has nice panettone. The Italian Bakery most likely does as well. Wildfire bakery has really nice stollen and Dundee cakes. Fry’s Bakery also has great stollen. Basically check every local bakery that’s half decent if looking for local stuff.

[Lighthouse Cake Company](http://www.lighthousecakecompany.ca/) in Langford had a dark fruitcake last year. I haven't checked for this year.

A lot of these responses are not about the style of product you are looking for. Sure, panettone and stollen are great, but they are *not* fruit cake or plum pudding. The best fruit cake/pudding I have found in Victoria (and one of the best I've ever found anywhere) is made by 'Trini to D Bone' (650 Burnside Rd W) in very limited quantities prior to Christmas. It is called the Unforgettable Caribbean Rum Cake and it is amazing. Home made, high quality ingredients, super rich and dark, never dry. I cut it into slices for fruit cake or use it as plum pudding (by warming a portion up and adding flaming brandy, custard, etc). It works as either. You can buy it directly from Trini to D Bone, but I've also seen it being resold by Root Cellar. It ranges from \~$21-$25, depending on where you buy it. But move quickly as it often sells out before Christmas. Good luck!

I’m not sure about fruitcake, but I noticed the Inn at Laurel Point restaurant is making Christmas goodies https://www.instagram.com/p/CIesIqNAnZT/

Someone suggested to me Delish, hidden in the bowels of south Oak Bay. Haven't verified it though. But love that there are others out there willing to admit their love of fruit cake! Soooo tired of the xmas fruit cake jokes.

Dutch Bakery do excellent cakes, classic bakery and phenomenal value. Mini cake for 3-4 servings is $14, small round for 6-8 is $24. IMHO you can't beat it for price/value. There's lots of great bakeries in town like Ruth and Dean but I'm not paying $75 for a cake.

[Patisserie Daniel](https://www.patisseriedaniel.com/) is the place where you potentially will see your cake as a winner in international magazines. That is the level of professionalism Daniel sports in the cake department.
Also, [Crust bakery](https://www.crustbakery.ca/) is another place with surprisingly amazing cakes. Few years ago, my kid had a bowling themed bd and obviously she changed her mind on the original cake idea and now wanted a last minute bowling cake. So I went and asked the owner with a desperate puppy look, you know what i'm saying. She said, sure, no problem. As she later confessed, she "stole" some pieces of her kids' old bowling toy from home to decorate the cake that ended up being amazing to the look and taste as well, and was a great success. I returned the decorative pieces later :)

La Roux Patisserie in China Town makes amazing looking cakes. I haven't had a chance to order from them yet because I waited too long and they were already booked up, but next birthday hopefully! Otherwise I've just been ordering all of our birthday cakes from Thriftys lately, and been really really impressed and happy with them! I've done Ruth and Dean cakes in the past as well, but I'm not crazy about their icing.

anyone know of a good gluten free bakery close by?
Tori S. replied:
Hi there! I am the Gluten Free by the Sea person - and I totally can bake for you for special occasions - but don't do bread as a rule - there are so many great one's out there now -- I highly encourage you to check out the new Kinnikikinick bread - from the company - it ships at 4.99 a loaf... awesome taste and does not need toasting at all -- it is also a larger loaf than Udi's. Sobeys is also currently carrying it at 5 something a loaf... still not bad. I really love making muffins, cupcakes, cakes... nibbles... swirly thing with pizza stuff... and will probably offer Christmas trays closer to Christmas for about 50 per if there is enough interest!
