Hi, James. I saw your post. I work in the same offices as the local Area Agency on Aging, and wanted to share a few resources and contacts. Their website has lots of resources: http://www.tjaaa.org and the two folks I would direct you to are Ellison Jones (919-558-9391), who provides Family Caregiver support services and Jennifer Link (919-558-9404), who is the ombudsman for Wake County nursing homes. They are both great and should be able to get you the information and support you're looking for. They do this work everyday.

Call ABC Nannies. They are a many agency that will talk you through the process of hiring a nanny. They also take care of references and back ground checks. I used to be a nanny twenty years ago and that's who I went through to be placed. They've been in business for years and would be a great help to you. Good luck and congrats!

Just a suggestion, it may be cheaper in the long run to hire someone to do it directly. You can always check references and do back ground checks before hiring . Also there may be some people listed on care.com.
