We LOVE small dogs. We take our Shih Tzu -- small, but not as tiny as your little girl is going to be --- to Dr. O out in Tidewater. We trust him and appreciate the care he gives our guy. Will someone post his contact info? I am on the run, can't bring it up right now. I know a lot of us go to him.
J S. replied:
All vets understand small dogs. It's more the owner that has to understand the extra care and expense of ownership. I have had four Yorkies, Micro Million, Milli Million, Max Million and Mega Million, which I called The Millions. I always had German Shephards before The Millions and the care and needs of the small dogs were very different in my 16 years of yorkie care. You have an advantage than I had with so many websites today on Yorkie care. Take advantage of those sites to read and learn and connect with other Yorkie owners.

Shannon O. replied:
We had a horrible flea problem a few months ago and took all our animals into the Newport vet clinic behind Abby's pizza on 10 th street. They are amazing and can give them the oral medication. I wouldn't recommend any other place (and we have been to a lot of other vets). We have ours on a three month pill now that works great. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
Seana A. replied:
I love Dr. O:) Comfortis is a great product but I like to recommend Seresto as well. It's a flea collar (the ONLY one that works) but you can't get it wet and you need to make sure there are two fingers in between the dog and the collar. If your dog is constantly getting wet then Comfortis may be a better option for you. But if just on occasion, you can always take the collar off for a day if it's raining (then put it back on at night) or take it off when they go for a swim, then replace it after you towel dry them off. If the Seresto collar does get wet, pat it dry, don't wipe. It is about $50-56 depending on where you go but it lasts for eight months but around here (where the fleas are so bad) I always recommend changing it around 6 months. Saves you quite a bit in the long run:)
Stefanie G. replied:
Dr O does not prescribe internal flea meds. Only topicals like revolution.
Cindy R. replied:

Cindy R. replied:
Comfortis is also risky. My daughter's dog had a terrible reaction to that, lost her hair and was really sick for a long time but her immune system was already compromised. Dr. Brown put our dogs on an oral medication and after a few months the fleas were gone completely. But I wouldn't keep them on it any longer than necessary.
