Is there still a vet in Waldport (I heard Conkel retired)? Or can anyone recommend one in Newport & offer a ride up there? Fox needs to be seen & taking the bus with...
Peggy S. replied:
Qahira, I take my 3 guys to Newport Vet, started going there years ago when Dr Bauman was there, he was so amazing. But he sold the business, and now there are I think 3 vets in the office, all of whom are good. A little pricey, but I think all veterinary care is pricey now. I could give you and Fox a ride up for an appointment when you need it. Peggy on 3 rd street
Xep C. replied:
Say hi to Dr. Brown and staff for me if that's where you're headed. (That's where I used to work.)
Qahira L. replied:
Thought so, Xep. Dr. Brown junior goes to Waldport on Wednesdays, but there's no lab there, so we're going to Newport tomorrow & seeing Dr. Fineman - same clinic as Dr. Brown's, though. I'll pass on your greetings & regards.
Susan H. replied:
Dr. Fineman must be new! Last I knew Dr. Brown was the only Vet there.
Qahira L. replied:
Dr. Fineman used to be at Grove Vet Clinic - at least I think that's the same person.
Susan H. replied:
It is Dr. Brown from Newport, and I believe he is in Waldport on Wednesdays. My cats see him, and we like him a lot!
Cindy Y. replied:
Dr Brown is the one I am taking my new kitten to for her shots, I Heard he was in Newport..
Ruth B. replied:
Qahira, I would be happy to take you and Fox to a vet appointment. Just call me - 541-844-5279.
Sheila E. replied:
Dr. Brown comes to Waldport on Wednesdays, from 10 to 4. He is at 135 Strawberry, where Conkel used to be. 541 563 6033. I could take you if you make an appointment. Cat people gotta stick together. Sheila Evans 541 547 3968

Dr.O up river at the 18 mile marker is awesome..Dr. Ochipini .number is in the book.
Being new to the area I am seeking suggestions on a good, in-home vet. Our 15 yr. girls health is declining. Her wonderful vet is in Eugene but she simply can not travel...
Katrina W. replied:
Dr. Conkel of Waldport (Bayside Animal Clinic) will come to your home. My experience is that he is kind and patient when performing this service.
Barbara L. replied:
Also Dr. Bauman from Newport is a Mobile vet. He has been our vet for 12 yrs. and has made home calls. I know he has performed this difficult choice for a number in our community
Jacquee C. replied:
I just read in the News Times that Dr. Bauman's selling his practice. http://www.newportnewstimes.com/v2_news_articles.php?heading=0&story_id=29892&page=79
Phyllis C. replied:
Dr. Bauman retired last week. I love Dr. Brown and have also heard good thing about Dr. O (up the Alsea). Good luck to you.
Joey L. replied:
I personally love Dr. Fineman in Newport, but I have a friend who knows someone up the Alsea that comes to the home as well, I will try and find out who that it.
Donna R. replied:
Dr. Conkel come to our home this morning and helped our girl transition to her new life. We miss her so much it hurts. Dr. Conkel was gentle, compassionate, skillful, and obviously very dedicated to his profession. I was glad he was was the vet we chose. Thanks everyone.
Max G. replied:
Donna.....Dr. Conkel helped my beloved poddle, Jazz, transition about 3 years ago....Jazz & I had been companions for nearly 15 years....supporting you now, friend in this period of grief!!!!!
Heather T. replied:
We love Animal Medical of Newport. Drs Brown & Lewer have nursed our dogs through cancer and old age, as well as our cats. We have the highest respect for their practice.
Phyllis C. replied:
My favorite vet is also Dr. Brown. He is compassionate and experienced. When my dog was ready to leave this world, Dr. Brown helped that happen in the kindest and most humane way.
Xep C. replied:
I work at Animal Medical Care of Newport. All four doctors are great and we do house calls.
David H. replied:
Yachats Pet Emergency may be able to advise and/or help also
As many of you know, I just moved to Yachats in September. I have a kitty that is due for her shots. Can anyone recommend a good Veterinarian or animal clinic nearby?
Heather T. replied:
We love Animal Medical Clinic in Newport, but if it's just shots and general maintenance there's also Dr. Conkel in Waldport who's really nice (Bayside Animal Clinic, I think)
Susan H. replied:
Thanks for all the info! I took two of my cats to Animal Medical Care this morning: one sick, one for shots. Such a beautiful clinic and I was very pleased with the care they received!
Betty J. replied:
If you are traveling to Eugene I would recommend Critter Creek Inn, in Veneta, a kennel free Boarding and Daycare. 541-521-8496. I know the couple personally. I will take my puppy there if using Eugene airport.
Robert C. replied:
Animal Medical Care is the best vet around, but I should confess my wife Xep Levy Campbell works there. We used the boarding facility on highway 34 and would not go back. They got our dogs confused (one had medical issues) and the whole place was kindof run down and a little scary. For cat boarding, it might be easier to find someone to come by your place.
Xep C. replied:
Animal Medical Care in Newport does cat boarding (but not dogs).
Xep C. replied:
For dog boarding I would recommend Adventurous Canine in Eddyville. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Adventurous-K9/172792132749892
**CAN ANY CAT OWNERS in the group recommended the best (friendly&affordable) veterinarian in the area? Any info would be appreciated :)
Susan H. replied:
I am very happy with Dr. Brown at Animal Medical Care of Newport.
Vanessa G. replied:
Thank you everyone for your responses! I feel his is a pretty mild case, from my research it's "cat ance" but it's not getting better, and it bothers him. I'm on a tight budget. Ive been told Dr.Browns initial visit fee is $40, not counting extras. Searose Hood do you know what Dr.Osbourns is? And Maddie Lamica Nancy at spay&neuters?
Searose H. replied:
Hmm..I'm not sure what the initial fee is since my first visit was to the emergency vet but probably comparable to Dr. Brown who is also very good. I would look into the spay & neuter clinic as well.
Vicky P. replied:
I don't remember the initial fee at Dr. Osburn's, either, but for exam, urinalysis (UTI) and antibiotics, it was only about $100 for our dog which was far less than I expected to pay at Brown's...
Kathryn M. replied:
We also use Dr. Brown.
Searose H. replied:
We really like Dr. Osburn in Florence
Susan S. replied:
Dr. Brown
Janet P. replied:
When I'm in Yachats with my dog, we have seen Dr. Brown and really like him. If it hasn't changed, he has hours in Waldport once a week...not sure which day, however!
Lisa S. replied:
For normal, day-to-day things, Dr. Brown is great. Anything more serious, I'd recommend Dr. Hurty at the Grove....I had to make the switch recently.
Sandy W. replied:
Love Dr. Brown who comes to Waldport every Wednesday I think.
Does anyone know what happened to our visiting veterinarian to Yachats? I am in need of a house call for my cat.
Annie S. replied:
Animal Medical Care in Newport supposedly bought Dr. Conkels practice in Waldport. I heard they were suppose to be down here a couple of days per week. You might want to try calling them and asking. Too bad about the mobile vet moving to the valley.:-(
Joey L. replied:
I believe that was Dr. Brown's practice. I heard he died. Had been there before. His son is the one at Conkel's is what I heard.
Annie S. replied:
Yes, Animal Medical Care was owned by Dr. Brown who ran it with his son, I think Eric Brown. After Dr. Brown died Eric took over the practice. When Dr. Conkel in Waldport moved Eric bought his practice there as well and was suppose to use it as an extension practice of Animal Medical Care.
