Have been seeing Charles Preyor-Homonnay in the Somerset part of Bethesda for years. He does Japanese acupuncture with moxibustion. Each session is more than an hour long and the price is extremely reasonable ($75 first session; $70 after that). He takes most insurances in the area that cover acupuncture. He works out of his home and is also a pharmacist. Very knowledgable and generous. The moxa sometimes gets put in a little basket on top of the needle and the warmest penetrates deeply. In my case to some pain in my ankle. He is both skilled and kind. He also does rolling heat on the back that feels like a cross between light massage and deep heat. It's like no other acupuncture I've eve had. He goes back to Japan annually for more training. He's a gem who doesn't advertise. http://www.kanonacupuncture.com

A friend that I have grown up with became an acupuncturist after moving to SoCal. He became the first resident acupuncturist at Long Beach Hospital. He has recommended that a patient seek out someone who practices the traditional Asian acupuncture methods and avoid the new age reinvented acupuncture.
Hey folks, I have someone looking for a trans friendly acupuncturist in/or around DC?
Kelly B. replied:
I'm not sure what it takes to be "trans friendly" (beyond lack of prejudice). If that's all it takes, try Stephanie Bernardo (yes, Jaime's wife). She's in Silver Spring. www.anamaywellness.com.
