Luxury Vinyl Plank. It's a great budget-friendly (material costs as well as install costs) waterproof option. Some look cheap but if you look around you will find some that look great. I think the key is to finding one that has texture to mimic real wood instead of those without. Look at Lumber Liquidators for a start,

We have a concrete slab as well and bought engineered hardwood from Lowe’s. You have limited options with wood flooring on a slab and this has worked great for us! Hickory is a hard wood.
