Does anyone have any good recommendations of a dermatologist?

Hi Suzanne, 1 st of all, I have made apts w/ Spiro & they ALWAYS gave me his NP. In brief, Dr. Spiro's nurse practitioner told me she thought I had a rare & HORRENDOUS disease that (coincidentally) had killed my best friend's mother in just three months. It turned out to be a vascular thing (diagnosed by Dr. Baler) that was just normal aging. My rheum. was furious that she would even mention something of that magnitude to a patient and he suggested Dr. Baler. She also tried to burn off a birth mark on my friend's son. TWICE. The doc. giving the 2 nd opinion was flabbergasted! I actually like the office & the NP. In fact, I LOVED her, I'd invite her to lunch for Pete's sake AND I'd go to her for a chemical peel anytime, but she should really stick to being an esthetician. Hope that helps.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's a no nonsense, straight shooter. He will explain everything that is going on in layman's terms AND he's funny. LOVE him. https://plus.google.com/109359204953864872930/about?gl=us&hl=en

Jessica Dunton, RPA at Albany Dermatology is really good. She's affiliated with Dr. Shoss. My Dad had seen Dr. Shoss also for his skin cancer. I've heard wonderful things about Dr.Michael Mulvaney, but he's also really hard to get to see unless you already have some type of skin cancer. Good luck!!

Dr Spiro Let me count the ways 1-pompous 2-I was running late busted my hump to get there on time b/c they said if I was late they would turn me away and I waited 1 hour to see him 3-he has the same problem as me and couldn't cure it There were other things I didn't like but they were the top 3

I have the same insurance and I went to Dr. Ponessa. He is amazing. His office is right next to St. Peters in Albany and he does all of his surgeries out of that hospital. I don't have his office contact information at the moment but as I remember he was easy to find

I go to a dermatologist in Troy: Dr. Joseph Schwartz 137 Hoosick Street Troy, NY 12180-2323 (518) 274-4305 I know this is in Troy but it is less than 10 miles from the SUNY Albany campus and it is very easy to get too. I go 3 times a week for light treatment for my psoriasis and I would definitely recommend the office. They have a physician's assistant and a nurse practitioner who also take patients.

my son has Dr. Jason Mouzakes at 35 Hackett Blvd. (University Ear Nose & Throat) for a cosmetic problem with his ear (it didn't form correctly) and he is WONDERFUL with him.

In terms of dermatologist, I haven't been shopping around but I personally see Dr Stewart Altmayer in Latham (off of exit 7W) and I'm on Empire (BCBS of TX) and switching to BCBS of NY. I have no issues with him, he's usually easy to get in to see and he's usually not more than 10-15 minutes behind schedule for appointments (which sadly is the best I've found in Albany with medical practices in general).

Go to the insurance company's website, and search their list of practitioners. There are many different 'blue cross/blue shields', out there, so "of Northeastern NY" or "of Ohio" will expedite the Google search.

Teddy Pan & Joseph Baler. Although Baler's receptionists will probably tell you there is a two-month wait. Both Dr's are very good. Dr. Pan also has a physician's assistant (also good) on staff. Just my two cents...
