Jaclynn, that's a timely question! As others have mentioned, we have a lot of great home organizers around. But now there's something new! There is a company called "Everything But The House" who is using a new business model for home cleanouts. They basically turn your home into an online auction --- like your own little eBay --- and they take care of everything, including shipping items to the winning bidders. It's a pretty cool concept actually and has been successful in Ohio --- so now they're launching in other cities.. It just so happens that, of the two woman kicking this off in Boston, one of them is Arlington's own Liz Hill! Liz herself has been an antique dealer for years, so even if you don't choose to go with EBTH, Liz has a side business helping people unload antiques. She is very well connected and knowledgeable about the local auction houses. You can reach Liz at 617-297-6579. https://www.ebth.com/sales/6984-boston-massachusetts-personal-property-sale

I love Fashion at the Fox. I got a Talbot's suit there once for $6 and like-new leather boots for $3, a gown for my daughter was about $4. Belmont Hill School Better Buy Sale (tomorrow) from 9-1. Also has men's, women's and kids clothes. Savers in Framingham has some great buys, but requires some digging though racks. Garment District in Kendall Sq, and Urban Renewal in Allston are also fun to dig through if you want thrift stores.

Fashion at the Fox (a pop-up women's clothing store at the Fox Library in East Arlington a couple times a year) is not to be missed. Amazing prices for great clothes, plus it's totally volunteer-run and benefits the library! Check in with them on Facebook or Twitter https://www.facebook.com/142341339169786 Fashion at the Fox for dates. :-)

The Catholic Charities Thrift Store in Old Town is where I donate-- they provide free shopping to people in need, and paid shopping to the rest of us, with proceeds supporting the many charitable initiatives of Catholic Charities.

Our Lady Queen of Peace off Glebe Rd. takes all clothing and "sells" it for free in their store on site. Every time I have been to donate, the store has been full of shoppers; it's great to see our donations going to our local community.
Lauren K. replied:
I just had the same issue- I called a refugee org in the area to see if they needed clothes and the lady I talked to recommended Our Lady Queen of Peace. They have a thrift store that gives away clothing for free to people that need it. If you go during their office hours, you can get a tax deductible receipt. http://www.ourladyqueenofpeace.org/matt25.html

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and Big Brothers and Big Sisters (BBBS) do regular pickups. I've donated thousands of dollars of clothing and household items this way. Could not be more convenient. I used to drive around with full trash bags in my car for weeks until I found a convenient drop off bin.

You want to encapsulate and not disturb as much as possible. Unless the surface is at mouth height (like window sills) or wood on wood motion, like door frames and sashes, you are better off encapsulating. For removable doors, consider dipping at Minuteman Restoration in Somerville. Be careful, find a reputable certified deleader and don't DIY unless you are childless, know what you are doing or encapsulating.
