Joyce Motors in Clarendon has always been fair and honest with me. I had an issue with my Jeep that they told me about during an inspection but made sure I went to a dealer to see if it was under warranty before offering to fix it.

Anyone have suggestions for a good Bimmer shop? bout to hit the 100K miles mark and need someone to look out for my baby :)

10 th St. auto is one of the fairest places I've ever been to. First time I went for a broken wiper, didn't realize I needed an appointment, but the mechanic took a look anyway and fixed it on the spot for me. 10 minutes work, didn't charge a penny, and they've had my business ever since. No regrets so far!

GTS Auto Service in DC has been my mechanic for years. I like them.

I've used Auto Tech Services in Adams Morgan with great success. Luis has had plenty opportunity to screw me over and hasn't.

The Chesterbrook Excel Station in McLean has always gone above and beyond for me. very honest mechanics there

This subject gets brought up a lot and I always suggest Rayco which is in Silver Spring. I love the gentleman and his wife that work there. They are honest people and I trust them.

I've had good results from [A-One Repair](http://www.yelp.com/biz/a-one-auto-repair-body-shop-alexandria) for a couple years on my Toyota. A tranny replacement shouldn't be that much unless you're talking old Porsche; closer to two thousand IIRC.

I own a '71 El Camino take it there to get serviced. Never disappointed with any of their work and never had to get something re-fixed. Prices were always fair.

I have gone to Yates Automotive in Alexandria off the Braddock Rd metro for years. I love those guys. Always fair and honest about what's needed versus just recommended.

Can’t say enough good things about my experiences with GT Peace in Chantilly. If I recall correctly they specialize in BMW, but will definitely work on just about anything.

Some ratings have changed since but might be a good starting point. With a car like that I'd find a specialist though. Maybe ask around on BMW forums to see if you can find a master tech that might be willing to work privately for you.

We've have used Sonny & Sons for several years and have never been disappointed. They are located on Garden Street off of Mystic St. My husband is very fussy so he would not use them if they weren't good.

Depends to some extent on what kind of car. I've been taking Civics to Hondar House in Cambrdge for 25 years, and been very happy. But there might be better options for non-Japanese cars.

Similar issue happened on my Xterra once and I reset the switch very simply. Occasionally on an older car the light comes on for a variety of reasons. To reset mine I had to do a pattern with the ignition switch and key turns. This links shows how to do it for an Acura. Capitol Auto on 4 Mile Run - I called about 5 places when I needed new brakes. Theirs were the only sane price and they ended up going above and beyond to get something fixed recently on my car. Cory, the owner, is amazing.

Auto Stop - also a fave on Yelp which is how I found them.
