Looking for places to shop for guns / reloading supplies in Austin, TX I'm in Austin, Tx for the week and I'd like some recommendations on Gun & Reloading supply stores...
BattleHall replied:
Off the top of my head, I'd say check out the upstairs room at [McBrides](http://www.mcbridesguns.com/), they're normally pretty well supplied. Looking for anything in particular?
PieForBreakfast replied:
[Red's](http://www.redsguns.com/) has North and South locations, each of which has an indoor range. I've never been to the South location, but I think it might have a bigger inventory than the North location. [Austin Gun Liquidators](http://www.austingunliquidators.com/) doesn't have a lot in the store, but he can order from his supplier and have almost anything within a day. His prices, while higher than you might find online, are better than most stores around. There's a [Cabelas](http://www.cabelas.com/retail-stores-buda.shtml) in Buda, which is just South of Austin. It's a huge store, with a massive selection of guns and gun accessories. I've never looked for Reloading stuff, though I'm willing to bet Cabela's will have the biggest selection in stock. You can see what they carry and their prices on their site.

McBrides has a decent selection & prices in their upstairs (as BattleHall said). [GunPlus](http://gunsplus.net/) up in Georgetown also has reloading supplies. Cabelas, down in Buda also has a reloading section. Note: last time I was there they had all in-stock bullets 20% off.

My thoughts: I love McBride's. Maybe the best selection of guns in Austin, knowledgeable staff. I love Red's North. Good selection of guns, good indoor range, good staff. I dread going to Red's South. Stuffy, cramped, range, herp derp staff. Poor selection of guns. For reloading supplies, nothing's going to beat Cabela's in Buda. Also check out GT Distributors. www.gtdist.com

Austin gunsmith recommendations Hey all. I'm pretty new to guns. I need a couple of tweaks done to a 22 rifle I just picked up. Do you all have any recommendations on...
doggod replied:
Most folks like [AJ at Blackjack](http://www.yelp.com/biz/blackjack-gunsmithing-austin), although sometime he can be slow. Out of curiosity, what do you need done?
twobroke2play replied:
I second AJ never had any problems and he is very polite. Texts me when my stuff is ready.
Silencershop/NFA Transfer Rates in PDX area? My local shop (Rich's Gun Shop in Donald), God bless them, does have a silencershop kiosk but charges a $200 NFA Transfer...
kingofjabronis replied:
What?! Yeah, you might need to shop around a bit. I use Steve at Adaptive Firing Solutions. He's a Silencershop dealer that does in house photo/prints. No extra fees. For example, I ordered my Obsidian 9 from Silencershop for $599 and shipped it to him. He did the prints/photos and held it until the stamp came back. I never paid more than $599 (plus the stamp of course).

$65 https://www.atteroarms.com/?page_id=26 Oregon Rifleworks is $100, you’ll need an appointment.
NoctePhobos replied:
Oregon Arms & Ammunition didn't charge me any additional fees for ordering or storing my suppressor last year. They even helped me fill out the Form 4.
VortecKing replied:
Just make the drive to a kiosk. You will only have to do it once unless you screw up your fingerprinting, everything else you do on the app. No transfer fees to a kiosk shop. The next time you make the drive there it will be to pick up your suppressor. If it costs more in gas then maybe I wouldnt, besides that silencershop.com has made it pretty streamlined to buy from and made my life a hell of a lot easier by doing everything.
elganyan replied:
Did you buy from silencershop?
LethalOptical replied:
This has been helpful, been wanting to purchase a suppressor as well & also heard of $200 horror stories as well.
Can anyone in the Austin area recommend a gunsmith? I'm looking for someone to drill & tap a deer rifle and mount a scope by the 26th.

Michael Cargill, Central Texas Gun shop in South AUstin
Stacy C. replied:
John Carpenter might know someone. Or maybe Pat Kennedy Carpenter could ask Jeff Carpenter's dad?
Bethany B. replied:
My friend's hubby is a gunsmith. He recommended Heritage Firearms (http://www.heritagefirearmsaustin.com/), but also mentioned that it's deer season, so they (and everyone else) likely have a backlog.
