I’ve been going to Dr. Robert Snow for about 18 months, and highly recommend him or his wife Sandy (they run the practice together.) They’re located right next to Hopkins. http://www.snowclinical.com

If you haven't already, try searching on Psychology Today! You can filter therapists by issue areas, types of therapy (I've heard EMDR is recommended if you have c-ptsd or other trauma disorder), and insurance they accept. I'm also currently looking for a therapist so I hope you find one you click with :)

[Susan Stork ](https://www.spacebetweencounselingservices.com) in Mt. Washington might be fitting with her trauma informed approaches and skill set in Brainspotting for trauma work. If she's not a fitting for any reason - she does offer a consult with you for 15 minutes on the phone and provide you with 3 fitting referrals. The two that I know of are Nikki over at Fort Therapy and Julia at Therapy Stop, both in the Federal Hill area. I’ve talked to both for about 45 min for a free consultation and they were both very friendly and professional. Julia mentioned see is doing in person sessions while Nikki is only doing telehealth. I ultimately went with Nikki and have my very first therapy session next week. Like others have mentioned, 2020 had taken a toll on me mentally and brought out the worst in me (signs of depression, anxiety, ADHD)

I’ve been seeing my therapist at PsychCare in Pikesville for over a year and a half and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience there! The patient care coordinator is super nice and helpful with scheduling appointments and matching you with a therapist, especially if you’re new to therapy.

I have always used to [psychologytoday.com](https://psychologytoday.com) to find my therapists. The website allows you to filter your search by insurance provider, gender, specialty (like CBT), etc. It is truly an incredible resource! Therapists provide a picture and short bio about themselves, so you can get a little bit of a feel for their personality.

I don't know how religious you are but more often than not, some churches have counseling centers and scale payment and potential free sessions. Regardless of your religious views or lack there of, they are often at the very least able to sit and talk with you about options.

Maybe try Federal Hill Family Therapy group. I saw a woman there and it only cost me 5$ an hour because she took insurance, but she saw people on a sliding scale based on income (before insurance it would've been 50$. Or maybe 30, I actually am not sure.). That might seem like a lot, but I'm from DC where the same kind of counseling runs about 150-200$ per hour. She was really pretty good.
boothy443 replied:
If your feeling the way you say I would call one crisis centers in the area or head to a drop in clinic and see if they can refer you to somewhere.

There are a lot of therapists in the city (and suburbs) that will work on a sliding scale. It never hurts to ask.

Look into the pro bono counseling project. Can't remember if it's totally free or not but please try to get help. Also use the suicide hotlines. Ok looks like it's in Towson too. Please get help!

Call university of maryland department of psychiatry residency program (410) 328-6325 or hopkins (410) 955-2325, and ask if the resident doctors will see people without insurance. Both residency programs have excellent trainees who may be able to see you without insurance, for educational purposes.
I used to see this great guy in the county, off east joppa and waltham woods rd in the carney/parkville area. It was my first time seeing a therapist and he was fantastic. Name was Dr. Robert Cohen. Here's his website. If you haven't made an appointment already, I suggest you try him. I was paying out of pocket as well, and it wasn't anything outrageous ($150 a session looks like his rate these days). Here's his [website](http://www.worrydoc.net/).

Kink friendly therapists? Hey everyone, looking for a therapist (specifically for eating disorder issues) and trying to find one that's kink friendly. Not necessarily...
SocietyofJanus replied:
If you can’t find one on ncsfreedom, I’d recommend calling possible ones and straight up asking them about their knowledge of kink. Many have at least taken course work that covers this area, and kink is no longer listed in the dsm as always being a problem (it’s not perfect, but it’s progress). Tashra.org has a few resources for talking to healthcare providers who aren’t necessarily kink aware.
Bottomisbest replied:
As someone who formerly went through treatment for an eating disorder, and who has seen both kink-aware and non-kink aware therapists for various reasons over the years, I would highly recommend prioritizing seeing a psychologist whose sole specialty is in eating disorders, if you can manage to find one in your location. An analogy for consideration: would you rather see a generalist for heart surgery, or would you prefer to see a surgeon who specializes in the type of heart surgery you require?
Chances are, kink-aware therapists might not have as many tools or as deep of expertise on how to treat an eating disorder as someone who only focuses on that one thing. At the time I saw her, the psychologist I saw had a 100% success rate in the people she treated for eating disorders. She wasn’t an expert in kink, but she worked around my unique identity, and helped me change my relationship with myself and my body to one that was more healthy, giving me tools so that I was able to reach a day where I no longer needed her services.
And if you see a specialist who isn’t compassionate about your kinky identity and able to help you navigate a way forward, find another specialist.
Yes, NCSF has kink-aware/kink-friendly therapists, but I’ve had far more success seeing people who specialized in addressing whatever issue it was I was trying to solve. My one experience with a kink-aware practitioner was lackluster at best—even though I was going to her specifically for kink-related things, she was a generalist when it came to monogamous relationships, and it showed. On the other hand, I’ve had other therapists who didn’t self-advertise as being kink-aware, but who were experts in their arena and had enough experience navigating nuance that I’d absolutely call them kink-friendly.
loveandsubmit replied:
Check ncsfreedom.org, there’s a list of medical professionals who are aware and appropriately “friendly” to kink.

[Lauren Going](https://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/name/Lauren_C_Going_LCSW-C,RYT_Baltimore_Maryland_126916) is excellent. She has a lot of experience dealing with trauma, anxiety, and other 'hard wired' issues. She is a great therapist just to talk to, but has a lot of interesting exercises that help break down (or through) barriers including guided meditation, yoga, emdr, and more. She's been a huge help to me as a very anxious person.

I had to look up how far north Baltimore County goes [not a MD native, though I've lived here for 10+ years]... Pretty far north! If Baltimore isn't too far a haul, they have [Chase Brexton](http://www.chasebrexton.org/), a sliding scale LGBT/community clinic, which I think does informed consent HRT. If nothing else, they might be able to point you towards other resources/providers.
butt_soup_barnes replied:
I use Chase Brexton for my endo. There's one in the City (Mt Vernon I think but I could be wrong) and one a bit further away in Columbia.
They both are pretty booked though, the one in Columbia I had to wait almost 3 months before I could get an appointment so I'd make one as soon as possible.
Edit: If you're looking for somewhere actually in the county you could try a normal GP as luckily the county (except the northern part maybe but nobody lives there) is a pretty progressive place. But I don't know of any LGBT/trans specialized clinics outside of the city.
Edit: It looks like you may be in the northern part seeing your other reply, so yeah the city is probably the closest and best option. Mt Vernon is the gay and art district of Baltimore and a relatively nice area so you shouldn't have to worry about safety.
