I could never really find anything in the inner-city for Americanized Chinese food that I crave. But, in town, Lucky Strike has some pretty fucking good (and seemingly authentic) Chinese food in a pretty damn good atmosphere. 39 th & Hawthorne across from the Rock N' Roll Freddie's

There are a lot of great places I haven't been yet, but Shenzhen on 82 nd is pretty good for authentic, Sungari if you're looking for slightly upscale fusiony Americanized Chinese.

Ling Garden! The best dish I've had there (although everything was good) is the sesame chicken I believe. I'm not sure if that's the name or not because in my family we just call it "crack chicken" because it's deliciously addictive.

Pure Spice at 83rd and Division does awesome Hunan food. Get the goose hotpot, the dumplings and the spicy green beans. Chinese Delicacy, Wong's King, Ocean City, Best Taste, Good Taste, Wing Ming, EC Kitchen, Om Seafood (if you order seafood) and Taste of Sichuan are all quite good as well. There's plenty of good Chinese food in Portland, but you have to go to the places Portland's Chinese population lives to get it—that means the area between 82nd and 122nd Avenues. There used to be several quite decent places in Chinatown, but with the sole exception of Good Taste those businesses have all moved to be closer to their customers. I suspect many Portlanders have bad meals at good Chinese restaurants because we're constitutionally disinclined to ask questions. Those giant menus basically guarantee that there are as many misses as hits to be had, and the only way to guarantee you have a good meal is to ask the waiter about the kitchen's specialties.

This is going to sound silly, but the veggie house... It's owned by that crazy chinese cult that owns that satlitite tv station, but once you get beyond that, they do things with fake meat that make you go hmmmmmmmmyum. I eat meat btw. (get the lemon chicken)

I [made a similar post](http://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/comments/fj7 ay/looking_for_good_americanchinese_food_preferably/) quite a while ago, but I specified that I was in the market for "American" Chinese food. As far as I can tell, Lucky Strike is the best authentic Chinese place in Portland proper. If you want decent "Chinese takeout", try Zien Hong. I don't understand why there aren't more great Chinese places here...maybe sheer number of Thai restaurants has something to do with it.

I was at "[Chinese Delicacy](http://www.altportland.com/dailydose/chinese_delicac.shtml)" on 82 nd last night. Was packed full of families that seem to go there on a regular basis. Since we're white, we were handed menus and forks, but everyone else seemed to be ordering entrees not listed on the menu. Food was delicious, authentic, and served in large portions. Service was great and their prices weren't bad at all. Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I'd definitely recommend it.

Since you mention North Portland and Chinese food in the same sentence, I am obligated to type the words "**Lung Fung**" here. If you want an idea of where the bar is set for **worst** Chinese food, you may want to go there (N Lombard and N Denver). Or better yet, just read the [Yelp reviews] (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lung-fung-restaurant-portland). Hilarious!

We went to Yummy Yummy on 82 nd between Powell and Division once, and people in our party who had spent time in China said that it was by far the most authentic that they've had in Portland. It has since changed it's name to Yummy Seafood, so I am not sure if the name change came along with a management/menu/quality change, but at the time it was delicious and far from Americanized.

What's hilarious is I'm looking up these places you guys are recommending and the reviews by people scare me a bit. Stuff like this: "Probably as good as Chinese will get in Portland. Enough said." WTF! Hahaha. This place seems to be a foodie city -- so I'm surprised someone hasn't come in to try to remedy this.

i like prickly ash. flatbread style chinese "mo" sandwiches mostly though so it depends upon your cravings. cheap and good. but i may be biased as my wife is the part time counter girl there. there is also a place on sandy near 52 nd? not sure how traditional it is and im sure they use msg

I know you said Chinese, but hear me out: Jade Bistro and Teahouse is an amazing little restaurant that serves SE Asian cuisine and french baked goods. It's my absolute favorite place to eat in Portland.

There is a place on ne broadway (near the safeway) called Chino Saigon, definitely worth checking it out. Americanized, delicious, and affordable.

I had a craving for Chinese a few months back, and being newer to the west side we chose The Golden Crown in Beaverton because it had some good reviews on Citysearch. About $45 later I wish we had ordered pizza. Very, very poor. Almost wanted / asked for a refund. It is amazing to me that we cannot find good chinese when it is so easy to find good Pho.

Chen's Good Taste at 18 NW 4 th Ave is the best I've had in town. Good prices and huge menu.
I know you want Portland Chinese food, but if you ever find yourself anywhere near Forest Grove (cause that happens all the time right?) look for Jade Green Palace. Easily **the best** Americanized Chinese food I've ever had. The owners are awesome people to get to know as well and don't mind custom combo orders. I occasionally will drive the hour to go there if I really need to get rid of a craving.

No one has mentioned it yet, **FuBonn** is the biggest Asian grocer I've ever seen. They have a terrific fresh vegetable section and a great fish counter. 82 nd ave between division and powell. Actually China town is downtown, but there are more Asian restaurants on 82 nd than anywhere else in the metro area. Also in that same area is **Hung Far Low*, which Portland has a famous sign, but the actual restaurant is also on 82 nd Ave. It is above-par chinese-american food with some old specials like chop suey.

I really like:
House of Louie (cheap, good yummy chinese food, very americanized, CUTEST ATMOSPHERE! Sweet little ladies. Usually pretty empty)
Republic (cheap, right next to House of Louie, more options)
Those two are downtown but
Shenzhen is really good (americanized chinese food, pink interior, cheap and tasty, good for late nights)
House of Louie - 331 NW Davis
Republic - 222 NW 4th Ave
Shenzhen - 707 NE 82nd Ave
also, my favorite SUSHI comes from
Sushiland
(cheap, quality not always that good, I suggest requesting from the menu, since it will be made fresh, I suggest the Vegas roll)
Shi Gezo (more of a sit-down fancy resauraunt, good sushi and nice customer service)
Sushiland - 1409 NE Weidler St ; 138 NW 10th Ave
Shigezo - 910 SW Salmon

I would like to second Wong's King. I have not been there but have heard good things about Mandarin House. If you like Hot Pot, I like Hot Pot City but have heard Beijing Hot Pot is great. I like Fong Chong in Chinatown for dim sum. The food is hit or miss depending on what you get (make sure to get the ginger chicken), but I like the atmosphere. No one speaks English, they bring around random food so you never know what you will get and it has the feel of some bustling Hong Kong restaurant. Portland is strange in that it is a foodie's dream but lacks certain things like a great Chinese restaurant. While there is great 'working class' Indian food at the carts, I still have not found a great sit-down Indian restaurant either.
