Branchville is over $100 without a certificate. You can use the certificate from Pell City at several vets in St. Clair County. Branchville and Crossroads is one of them.
We need a site to drop donations of food and pet supplies for tornado victims. Anyone own a store or vet that would allow us to collect donations at their location?

Betty G. replied:
Hi Hannah, I am very sorry your Eddie has this terrible disease. However, as Jamie's blog says "There is hope". My vet had never heard of HS before. For a short time I was at a loss as to what to do. Then I found Jamie Goff and she helped my baby so much. We went through good and bad times. The good so outweighed the bad. I did lose her to HS when her liver totally failed. However I have such wonderful memories with her the last year of her life that I wouldn't have had with out all the HS members and especially Jamie Verell Goff.
Birmingham people, please give me some options for a good vet. I'm in Hoover, but I don't care where they are located. Just need someone I can trust to take great care...

Best orthopedic veterinarians in Birmingham? Any recommendations?
Kim S. replied:
I don't know the man's name but we saw one at the Emergency Vet Clinic behind The Colonade (probably spelled that wrong) when my Cookie girl was little and we thought her leg was broken. Every person in the waiting room re-assured us how wonderful the place was and how she would be well taken care of. I can call and find out the name if you want me to.
Alison S. replied:
Heather Glass in my dealings with personal and rescue - Dr. Milton at Acton Rd; Dr. Ballagas at Acton Rd, and Dr. Torsch at Main St. Trussville (really amazing) and also Dr. Scott Russell at Deerfoot Animal Clinic.
Joanna J. replied:
Dr. Milton and Dr. Ballagas are partners at the same place. Both are exceptional orthopedic doctors. I personally prefer Dr. Ballagas.
Heather G. replied:
We can definitely do a PayPal. I just know when I'm donating, I always feel better donating directly to the vet or a rescue. I am not a rescue and this is being done independently and our responsibility. I know, and the people who know me know, that al l of his donations will go directly to his surgeries, but not every one knows me like that. However... my main and number one goal is making sure he gets the best possible care. The donations are most definitely a HUGE help, but I do want to make sure he goes to the best! His well being is my priority!:) I do have an appointment this afternoon with Dr. Russell, one of the vets that Alison Potts Shirley recommended!! Thank you Alison!!

I have a dilemma. I am not sure what to do. The vet tested one of the babies of the litter and it tested positive for FIV. They recommend euthanizing. Someone please...
Allison C. replied:
Joey Kennedy there are four kittens. Not just one. You will help me find them homes right?
Jennie F. replied:
4) When a kitten with a positive titer reaches 6 months of age When a cat is positive on the in-office test, a blood sample should be sent to an outside laboratory to have the results confirmed or denied by a second method called the Western Blot. The in-office test only requires a few drops of your cat's blood. Adult cats that test positive for FIV on this test generally remain positive throughout their lives. Immature cats often become negative for antibody over a three to five month period. These kittens never had the virus – only their mother’s antibody. A small percentage of cats will give a weakly positive, indecisive reading with the SNAP test. These cats need to have a blood sample sent out for the Western Blot test or be retested with the office test in 2 months. A drop in intensity of the reaction at that time is a good indication that the cat is recovering from the infection. Very early in the disease, the in-office test can give false negative results. That is why cats that are known to have been exposed to FIV should be tested twice at three-month intervals to be certain they are not incubating the disease. http://www.2 ndchance.info/fiv.htm
Sue S. replied:
Allison Graves Cheatwood Do you ever use Dr. Weber? Since the kittens are sick he might even keep them there and treat them and he won't charge as much as anyone else will.

There are so many kittens and cats right now that need homes (that aren't fiv+)... Using resources to get the healthy ones to homes is what I would do.... It's not an easy decision because of the advances of medicine but still very difficult. Maggie Braden has a positive FIV cat, any advice Maggie?

I could not give enough praise to Grants Mill Animal Hospital. We went through a really rough time recently with our pup. We took him to 3 different vets with a mystery illness & they were so kind & honest with us. They were very sympathetic & helped us work out a new routine with our pup and let us set up a payment plan. Even when we had to make the hard decision to put him to sleep they were 100% supportive.

Not sure where you are so this may be a bit of a drive but worth it. Vestavia Animal Clinic off Montgomery Highway is amazing. They go above and beyond if your pet needs it and are super friendly. Their hours are convenient, too. I sound like a shill but I used them for my elderly kitty and they were incredible.

I personally use McAdory vet clinic, since it’s closer to my house. However, I work at a doggy daycare in homewood, so I’m fairly familiar with a few of the clinics in the area. I LOVE Homewood AH. They’re the on call vet clinic for my job, and they’re great. Nall Daniels is also highly recommendable, I have lots of clients that swear by them. VCA is great.

What part of town do you prefer? I LOVE Hoke Animal Clinic in Eastwood, and Green Springs Animal Clinic in Homewood is the same folks. I’ve also heard consistently good things about Grants Mill (and Dr. Petras used to work at Hoke).

Patton Chapel Animal Clinic is great! My elderly dog had to have surgery, and they were so wonderful. Dr. Byrd is very thorough and knowledgable. When my dog chewed through his stitches, I called to let them know I would be there in 5 minutes, and they treated him right away. I will always trust them with my baby!
Can someone recommend a good vet in the area and not too abusive with fees?
