Locally, you would be assigned a Primary Care in COlumbus (and mental health if you ever need it) Beyond that, they send you to Tuskegee, Montgomery, or Birmingham. Some things they will fee base (reffer you) to care in Columbus through civilians. It t akes up to a few months to get an initial appointment with VA primary care. They may send you a letter and send you to a private company for that initial appointment then assign you to a primary care in Columbus. Nothing happens in the VA system without the primary care signing off on it. For fee base, my husband had 3 put in in August and we are still waiting to see if it will be approved. TriCare moves much faster, but you still have to have your primary care doctor put in the refferal. If they say the refferal is urgent, TriCare can give you 15 minute approvals. It sounds to me like you just have a bad primary care doctor. You can change those online to another doctor or call TriCare and they will do it over the phone. some doctors on post are really good. 3 weeks to see a surgeon is fast. Most specialty appointemtns can take much longer.

VA here is horrible!! My husband is Tricare Standard now and won't go to VA. The one in Columbus lied to us many times about our benefits....luckily we did research and knew everything before hand my husband would receive for his rating!

You are in the hometown literally of one of the best shoulder surgeons in the country..George McCluskey at St Francis..Can you get referred to him..? He is really a great surgeon and people come from all over to see him..Good luck..Im not military so dont know what you have to do to be referred locally..but he will be worth it..

The VA hospitals are a joke...and u have to go to Montgomery or bermingham....my mother has had many strokes that now cause seizures and they don't do anything to help... Alley they want to do is push medicine.... I took her for her right shoulder and neck to the er and the took X-rays of her left.. Had I not been back there to correct them she would have thought everything was OK.... The one in Columbus is just a clinic
