What kind of classes are you interested in? HIIT, bike, running, weightlifting, yoga, etc.

Roughly where do you live? My roommate is a personal trainer and albeit its not the cheapest in the world he's helped me drop 50 lbs (in 90 days - I was challenging myself mostly)and I've hit every lift PR I've gone after with his help and guidance.

Regarding the dieting question, I recommend the Michael Pollan approach: Eat real food, not too much, mostly plants (from [In Defense of Food](http://www.pbs.org/food/shows/in-defense-of-food/)). That and a calorie tracker like loseit or myfitnesspal is a good place to start.

I go to Cardinal Fitness, $30/month. Small gym but has everything you need. They do have classes and personal trainers but I have not used them. In the meantime - I recommend heading over to r/fitness for workout programs and advice

Crossfit gyms are pretty well known for being "involved" and it's like...communal working out. Lots of people call it a "cult" lol, but I don't think it's a cult in a bad way. It's just very supportive. I've never done it, but if that's the community vibe you're looking for, look at crossfit gyms in Columbus.
bikecoffeesleep replied:
Not sure if you've already thought of this, but I have read in various places (anecdata!) that people are more successful at going to the gym if its within a pretty close radius of either their home or workplace, or on the route between the two. If you map that out, you might see other possible gyms?

Most city parks have a rec center with a gym, some with a pool. $60 per year gives you access and you have access to every one in the city.

I go to GO Fitness. There's a location in Italian Village, and one in Grandview. I like it there and they have a lot of classes and other stuff that I never take advantage of. . You can go by and ask for a trial and they'll let you use it for a week to decide if you like it.

Thinking of joining the Planet Fitness on Indianola. 10 bucks a month right now. Anybody have experience with this place? Just need a place to run in for like 30 minutes a few times a week.

Not sure but have you been to the /r/loseit sub on here? I've lost 188 lbs this past year and it's been a huge help. The FAQ lays everything out about weight loss, it's a truly invaluable resource. If you need specific advice, ask away or post in that sub, there's a ton of helpful people there.

Dublin, and UA (and soon Grandview) Market Districts have registered dieticians onsite. Some of the other larger Giant Eagle stores have them as well. Sorry I don't know what their fees are. EDIT: Here is a link to their[ Health and Wellness](http://healthprograms.gianteagle.com/) classes.

[Denise Londergan](http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/patientcare/healthcare_services/integrative_medicine/cim/clinicians/Pages/index.aspx#Londergan). She taught me not just what to eat, but *why*, and after the knowledge I got from one visit, I lost 25 pounds in three months and my chronic acid reflux I'd had since puberty went away. I'd been taking Prilosec every day, and I would still reflux through it, and now I barely have any at all. (Only when I eat a meal I shouldn't have.) I was very impressed with her. Edit: As for the fees, I'm not sure - my insurance covered the visit. However, no matter how much it is, I had so much success with even just one visit that even if you go a few times, the money will be absolutely worth it. With all the fad diets and contradictory, terrible advice out there, this sort of pointed expertise is invaluable.

On my earlier comment...I'd be happy to sit down and grab a coffee with you downtown or in Clintonville and discuss all the ways I've learnt how wrong the standard American diet is. I spent a few hundred hours researching human diet, keto, low carb, etc and put it to use by losing 40lbs in 4 months and keeping it off since.
I don't really count calories and lost a significant portion of that weight while eating probably 1000 calories a day more than I needed. It's far more complicated than calories out > calories in. The low fat, vegetarian/vegan crap a lot of dieticians push will only less to more weight gain. I refer to their prescribed diets as caketarians...Because that's basically what it is.
If you're interested pm me. I'm free most days after 4, and all weekend. Don't treat what I, or any dieticians say as gospel, though. Do your own research too, but I'll happily tell you what I found and give you lots of references to research on your own so you can make an informed decision.

My son developed symptoms like that to red dye #40. They progressed to include tongue swelling in addition to ichy rash.
