See this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/5 j8 b5 c/best_psychologistcounselor/ You can then find out if they work with children, or who they would recommend. You can also search this site by the age of the clients that the therapist works with: https://therapists.psychologytoday.com You could also contact http://www.nationwidechildrens.org/psychology to get their recommendations.

I'm not sure how many of the therapists work with children, but I and some of my friends have had great experiences with Affirmations. I know their website emphasizes mental illness and abuse/trauma services.

While it is not cheeks per say. It just may take a long time to get specific counseling. The counseling itself is good.

I called CCS and asked for specific recommendations for a therapist, they did a brief screening (basically asked about my mental health/history) and about my insurance and preferences (male vs female therapist), and gave me a great list of different providers in the area. I currently go to Bluestone Counseling and have only great things to say.

If you're alright with a 45 min bus ride, Open Arms in Germen Village isn't bad. The 8 will take you there. You can schedule online.

Can anyone recommend a good gender therapist in the Columbus OH area? Never been to a therapist. Don't even know where to start looking.
ftmichael replied:
To find a therapist who gets Trans issues (most don't, and are unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst), see http://t-vox.org/medical and http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/ . For the second link, enter your location and then select Transgender from the Issues list on the left.
Looking for a therapist in Columbus Does anyone know of any gender identity disorder therapists in Columbus, Ohio? I'm having a difficult time finding someone I can see...

I just moved from Columbus to a city with a lot more trans resources. However, when I was there, I did find two therapists. I'll PM you their details, but you may not like either one... one has a lot of negative reviews, and the other one (the one I contacted) was very expensive, and was requiring me to come to my first session presenting as female. I wasn't quite ready for that, but she insisted, and I ended up canceling. What you should probably do is contact Stonewall Columbus... the LGBT center in the Short North. http://www.stonewallcolumbus.org/

BTW, the therapist can't prescribe hormones. All they can do is give you a letter saying you have gender identity issues, and are clear to start HRT. A medical doctor, likely an endocrinologist, is the one who gives you the prescription after you have the letter. Being clear with the therapist upfront that you want a letter is important. Make sure to discuss timelines. If someone says they need to see you for more than 3 months before giving you a letter, that's crap.
