Durham Chiropractors? Looking for Durham or surrounding area chiropractors. Specifically looking for help with my low back pain. Would love if y'all have recs of places...

My SO is currently seeing a physical therapist for his ongoing back & hip issues and the results so far are really encouraging. I know you specifically asked about chiropractors, but if you are dealing with chronic pain you might consider a PT. Downside is you usually need a referral, but you get to take the exercises home with you, so might ultimately be a better value. :)

Lower-back issues here...been dealing with degenerative disk disease for 20+ years. Aside from an injection at Duke, the thing that helped me most was PT at Apex Postural Restoration Center. It's well worth the drive down 540. [https://www.apexptposturalrestorationcenter.com/](https://www.apexptposturalrestorationcenter.com/) One of the things they recommended was wearing different shoes. Joint chiropractic is pretty great. You buy a membership and go in whenever you need an adjustment without an appointment. They have locations all over that you can go to. It's quick if there's no one ahead of you (~5 mins) and because they're so quick they don't try to sell you supplements or tell you about 100 things that are wrong with you.

Follow the other recs here and find PT. Chiro was founded on pseudoscience and still hasn't grown up. You can call yourself "Doctor" at 21 years of age. I'm sure there are some nice chiros out there but if you need to keep going back you're not addressing the root issues you're just getting metaphorical bandaids. Low back pain is most commonly weak core/muscle imbalance/sedentary lifestyle or combo of the three. Get stronger, move more, feel better. This is a lot harder than getting "adjusted" but the dividends are far greater.

There may be some benefit of chiropractic sometimes for some people but I agree with those who recognize it as belonging to the "Complementary and Alternative Medicine" (CAM, aka quackery) world. Are there any chiropractors in the area that exist just to kind of keep you adjusted or do all of them need to have a life story that will tell you if your spine is straight you won’t get old and will be a super hero?

PT not DC.

Peterson Chiropractic on Broad St. $30 for adjustments, which is less than my co-pay, so I just paid out of pocket. He does take insurance though. He does dry needling, too.
JanitorOPplznerf replied:
[Chiropractic Wellness](https://drcraigfrench.com/) He takes insurance, but the regular adjustment is just $50 which isn't bad. Peterson on Broad is also very reasonable, I think even a bit cheaper than $50. I prefer the adjustments at CW fwiw.

I go to Heartwood Holistic in Chapel Hill, near Trader Joe's. Dr. Drew Kluger is awesome. This was my first ever chiropractor experience so I was nervous, but he was great about moving slowly and explaining what he was doing. I had one consultation appointment and then several follow-ups. There's an online system where you can just schedule an adjustment as needed. We have Cigna insurance and I have been able to bill through them. Hope this helps!

I’m a fan of good chiropractors, specifically those specializing in active release therapy. My go to guy is Dr Jason Pirigyi at Carolina pain and performance That said in my own experience, you have to be really careful with your back. I saw the most results by buying an inversion table and hanging for 10 minutes per day, also by sleeping on the floor and staying mindful of my posture when standing and sitting. It took a long time for it to get better and it’s still not perfect Good luck
Can anyone recommend a chiropractor in the Durham area?

Josh and Angelina Stevens (sister and brother team). They both went to Northern....I cheered with Angie and graduated with Josh. They have seen D a lot and are great. AND on their website it looks like they are waiving their normal $95 fee in exchange for a $20 donation to Durham Rescue Mission. Check out their website stevenswellness.com.
