A psychiatrist is an M.D. who can prescribe medications and generally does not do therapy, but will refer you to a non-physician associate. A licensed psychologist in GA will have a PhD, but can't prescribe. It depends on what you need. A licensed professional counselor (LPC) will be easier to find and less expensive. In Griffin, I'd recommend Hugh Christie, PhD for psychology (behinds Hobbs Pharnacy). Jennifer Mitchell, LPC (in the old Coca Cola building) There isn't a psychiatrist in Griffin I'd recommend.

We had good experience with Dr. Timothy Brian Kennedy... he's in Smyrna.( psychiatrist) In general psychiatrists prescribe meds, psychologists do more psychotherapy.
