Some of you may know my daughter Olivia. She had a complete tear of her ACL and other stuff during a lacrosse game last week. She needs complete reconstructive surgery...
Amanda L. replied:
My husband had his knee surgery last year done by Dr. Jani at Orthopaedic Specialists of Frederick. He came highly recommended. I hope your daughter recovers quickly!
Scott A. replied:
My daughter has had two different knee surgeries, both done by Dr. James Gardiner in Germantown. Both surgeries (miniscus repair) came out fantastic. We have also seen him for a few broken fingers (my son is a goal keeper). I highly recommend him.

For local physical therapy, Tuckey and Associates or Sage Orthopedics. Dr Curl is great. University of Maryland also has a pediatric ortho department.

Though I can't recommend my surgeon since he's based in central PA (Dr. Fanelli - he's dubbed as the best on the east coast for ACL reconstruction), as I said last night at the track - I will offer any support or advice I can over the coming months and summer. Feel free to PM me for my cell number and Olivia can text any time. It's rough, I won't lie but with proper preparation and PT I think she can make a quick comeback. She has the benefit of being very healthy and fit going into surgery, which is a tremendous help in recovery. I would be happy to help with rehab too if she needs a buddy to push her through doing the exercises on her own (that was one of the hardest parts...doing the exercises homework outside of the PT appointments). Let me know if you need anything!

Hagerstown friends: who do you use for your doctor (family doctor, not a pediatrician)? Or ones you would suggest avoiding?
Alicia W. replied:
I liked Jennifer Janus at John Hopkins Community Physicians. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/community_physicians/locations/washington_county/hagerstown.html
Alicia W. replied:
I also like Kelli Strauss at Potomac Family Medicine, but last time I checked, they were not accepting new patients. That was a while ago, so they might be worth a try.
This is for Washington county folks...there is a new pediatrician at the office I go to...her name is Dr. Vann....I know nothing about her...anyone out there with info...

Rachel A. replied:
Dr Budi!
Amanda H. replied:
The 4 of us all go to Dr. Cantone's practice. They are certified in adult and pediatric medicine.

Dr. Cantone with White Oak Pediatric and adult medicine. He is on PA Ave
Rachel A. replied:
Dr. Cantone is good too. I just based my decision on working with them ;) I don't know him as my own family doctor (or Dr. Budi for that matter) but have taken care of their patients.
