Dr. Dana Haselton at Grace Pediatrics in Smyrna, TN is whom I have taken my son to in the past (although we are those "only go to the Dr for life-threatening illness" peopleā¦ need to get out of that rut!). Even when he was dealing with some VERY crazy eczema-rash in his diaper area, she merely looked at it and didn't even touch his poor rashed up foreskin. I have heard horror stories from other Intactivists since then and just breathe a sigh of relief that I am so close to a Foreskin-Friendly Pediatrician!
Brianna K. replied:
Apologiesā¦ frazzled mommy brain! Dr. Haselton may be able to recommend a urologist. However, any referring doctor should be able to tell a patient whether a urologist understands proper Intact care or not and the patient should decide accordingly.
Brianna K. replied:
Here is the list that Saving Our Sons has, although I believe these are mainly Pediatricians. http://www.drmomma.org/2007/03/tennessee-foreskin-friendly-physicians.html
Brianna K. replied:
Someone in Intact Tennessee has taken their son to Dr. John Thomas, who IS a Pediatric Urologist and practices at Vanderbilt. But as I pointed out before, it is probably easier to ask and give a gentle reminder to not retract an Intact boy. And it never hurts to put one of these on your child! http://madebymomma.spreadshirt.com/do-not-circumcise-do-not-retract-A14447573/customize/color/504

I appreciate your comments very much Brianna King. We do have a list of Intact-Friendly Doctors that we are very proud of- I should have linked it with this post. It's the largest list of its kind anywhere on the internet and updated weekly but we are always looking for more to add. http://www.thewholenetwork.org/intact-friendly-doctors.html

We have taken our son to Dr. Donahoe at MCG in Augusta for a different problem, but he and his staff are great. Our son is intact, and he actually seemed impressed (ha!). He seems very knowledgable and conservative in his approach -- I think he would do everything he could to help you. He was recommended by our pediatrician, who is very pro-intact/breastfeeding. We live in Aiken, which isn't too much further than Lexington. His # is 706-721-3042.

A mother writes, "I need help finding an intact friendly urologist in the Richmond VA area. Does anyone know of one? My 12 year old son may have phimosis, I am not sure,...
Jessica S. replied:
Definitely NOT phimosis! If he hasn't even gone through puberty yet, no need to worry at all. His retraction will go through stages. In the rest of the world phimosis isn't diagnosed until AFTER 18 years old. USA is misinformed about everything to do with the intact male :( http://www.drmomma.org/2010/01/phony-phimosis-diagnosis.html
