I don't have an exact surgeon recommendation just yet but I am actually planning on getting LASIK done in South Korea in the next few months! I go there regularly on business trips and have done enough research to know that surgery there is top notch and well priced. "Medical tourism" is considered big business there so they really don't mess around with quality. The latest quote I received for LASIK was $2000 USK for both eyes.

I advice u to check what kind of procedure do u need and want. Most expensive price I know here in Mexico City is 30 k pesos for both eyes, which comes to about 1700 USD. This at one of the fancy hospitals, where they mostly have elite surgeons who did their residency or fellowship on the US. Average price in Mexico with a good but not fancy surgeon is probably half of that.

Had Lasik done in Karachi Pakistan from this clinic in 2010. http://www.hashmanis.com.pk/ they offer Skype consultations. The only problem I had was dry eyes for the 1 st week which resolved. It's a highly reputable hospital with alot of the physicians having postgraduate training in the UK or us. I paid $1300 for both eyes they used the wave front procedure. I did shop around and found other physicians charging $800 but I was more comfortable paying the extra money and going to a reputable clinic.

You have 2 eyes in your entire lifetime. How much would you be willing to pay to get your vision back if you lost it? Why would you risk something so vital to save a couple thousand at most?

I had LASEK several years ago, performed by Dream Eye Center in South Korea and they are lovely. I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was roughly $1,500 (both eyes and follow up care). I was living there at the time though, so didn't have to figure in the costs of flight/hotel. My friend had LASIK in the US at the same time and it cost her about twice as much...and they messed up so she still needed corrective lenses.

A guy at work went to Quebec to get his eyes done but that was 10+ years ago.

i paid about $2000 canadian for PRK in Feb 2014. not sure why you would need to travel outside of north america for lasik.... edit: my surgery also came with a "lifetime warranty" aka they'll fix them again if they get worse.. plus aftercare, etc.

Depends on your budget but Persol make some very nice glasses. Ray-Ban make good quality glasses at not-too-expensive prices (my wayfarers are going on 4 years and still look new).

if I were you I'd just go to a sunglass hut or something similar, and bug the shit out of the people working there by trying on every damn style of sunglasses. Maybe bring a SO or something to give opinions, but ultimately just go with whatever you're comfortable with

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm thinking I might buy a cheap pair for every day and active wear so if I trash or lose them it's not a big deal. Then I'll buy a nicer pair for when I want to look good. I really like some of the Persols. Never even heard of that brand so thanks for pointing them out. At the moment I'm kind of a pirate though because they were only able to do the procedure on my right eye. Apparently i have very small orbitals and very strong brow muscles that were making it hard for the suction ring to stay on my left eye ball. I'll have to give the left one another shot after the swelling and bruising goes down.

I manage to lose or break my sunglasses often enough to the point where I never spend more than $15 on a pair. That being said, Urban Outfitter has some decent styles, and a pretty good variety on hand for $10-20 bucks.

I have a pair of Gant Nelson sunglasses that are nice and half the price of Ray Bans. However, I will admit, that you can't beat a classic pair of Wayfarers. While Ray Bans are stylish, they are non-ophthalmic (not recommended by eye surgeons) so talk to your optometrist before spending too much money. Best of luck with your surgery.
