LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS: Primary care doctor, preferably female, in the East Side/Riverwest/Shorewood area. Not super pumped about my current doctor. Decent...
Dr Chelsea Holtz out of CSM's Shorewood Family Physicians Clinic. She's incredibly thorough, with a great bedside manner. I work in research and work along side physicians every day. I work with some amazing ones as well as those that probably should've chosen a different path. I've gone through a few PCPs as a patient in order to find the right fit. Dr Holtz is great. Really takes a "you know your body" approach. Thorough without going overboard on expensive tests/medications. (Also, if you're in the market for an OBGYN, Dr Tamara Adducci is out of CSM's Prospect Medical Commons is someone I very highly recommend).

Does anyone know if there are any opportunities for American docs to volunteer in PG (or really anywhere in southern Belize)? We have a friend who is a GP coming down to...
Ronald M. replied:
Nope not a doctor, but I used to volunteer at the local eye care NGO/clinic next to PG hospital, and we used to work with Hillside and the hospital, polyclinics, doctors etc all the time. We often had volunteer ophthalmologists who would only come for a week to do some cataract surgery, but even then, as everyone says, license is needed through the Ministry. Hillside website says 3 months...might just have time if you do it through them, as they have an established programme, there is chance the tape is cut a little quicker for them! I start a new job with the ministry in 2 weeks' time as nutrition coordinator (I think...you never quite know in Belize!)
Jo A. replied:
Ruth Alice McDonald in your new role could you help?? Hillside has volunteers yes, but I cant help but think that PG hospital and poly clinic has a greater need!
Jill B. replied:
Proworld places volunteers. They are on 9 Front St. upstairs, behind James bus terminal. The PG Branch is (501) 722-0206. They can probably help. belize@proworldvolunteers.org

I absolutely love this doc, who was my primary care doc for over a decade. She is amazing, and is with Aurora http://www.ah.com/providers/MitchanisMaryEllen.asp If you see her, tell her I said hi and that I miss the level of care she provided since I left the Milwaukee area

I like Dr. Michelle Nichols, naturopath at Integrative Family Wellness. And Dr Daniel Mui -- he's great as an internal med doc@Columbia St Mary's clinic on West Capitol. Sorry, no Aurora but both excellent docs.
Any recommendations of a primary care doctor in the area that takes new patients?

Try Dr. Claudia Koch or Claude Lataille NP at Bay View Family Health Center. Both are excellent providers.
