Does anybody have experience with LASIK eye surgery? Looking into it & had some questions & recommendations for doctors…?
Mary M. replied:
20/20 Institute Denver. 20-15 vision. I am old so I do need reading glasses now. Went with the lazer so nothing touched my eyes. Less infection that way. Got a lifetime guarantee so if they need further correction it's free.
Shawn K. replied:
PS Best $5K I have ever spent in my life.
Kimberly B. replied:
My mom had a terrible experience with Dr. Loden in Nashville. They had to do it twice because they messed it up the first time, and she still has spots in her vision from the surgery.
Helen P. replied:
Jeb. Look into Maloney vision institute http://www.maloneyvision.com/ He is located in LA, he is one of the Drs that invented RK, then Lasik, and other advancements in vision. He did mine over 30 yrs ago, and I just now need reading glasses Bart had his done back the too. He needed it again, and last yr his vision in one eye was 20/300 (yes legally blind). He now has 20/20 in back in that eye. Good luck!!!
Helen P. replied:
Btw. If you have ever watch extreme makeover, he is the Dr that does the surgery for them. He also appears on the show The Drs.
John W. replied:
Both my wife and I had Dr. Ming Wang do ours. It wasn't the cheapest option, but we are both with perfect vision. I had my eyes done in 2005 and she had hers done in 2012. I also have heard good things about Dr. Arrowsmith.
Justin L. replied:
Dr. Sonkin
Charlie C. replied:
I believe my father-in-law had it done by Dr. Wang up there in the Vanderbilt area. Very happy with the results
Melanie P. replied:
I have heard rave reviews about Dr Wang from several ppl. They said he wasn't the cheapest, but they felt the most comfort with him and he did a great job.
Shawn K. replied:
Had it done 8 years ago and still have better than perfect vision...20/15. Eye Health Partners Dr. Daniel Briegman.
Elizabeth R. replied:
My dad did Dr. Wang. Rave reviews. He still uses readers but he required a very strong prescription prior to. Rob Roten can tell you more.
Recommendations for Lasik in Nashville? Hey everyone!
Been considering Lasik for a while and I'm looking to get the procedure done sometime this month. I've been...
DylanAllen replied:
Ming Wang did go to Harvard *and* MIT...
tallskinnyvanilla replied:
I'm actually sitting in Wang's office right now. I checked out Loden first but I Wang uses 3D diagnostics and also for the procedure. I'm here now because he does informational seminars about every 6 weeks. Everyone gets a $1200 discount and they're giving away 2 50% of packages in a raffle. You can go to their website and RSVP to attend one. I think the contact lady's name is Suzanne. Plus, free pizza.
FartOnAStick replied:
Wife went to Ming Wang, loved it. He's the best. There were patients in the waiting room from other clinics who'd had a botched surgery. Their clinics sent them to Wang to fix their mistakes. He's the guy all the doctors go to to get it done right. My wife mentionef that our insurance would be accepted at another place, but not at Wang's, so they took 15% off the cost to compensate. As an added bonus, I now get to tell everyone about my wife's 'Wang job.'

Had Loden do mine back in 2010...great experience and no issues since.
eye lasik recommendations around nashville I'm looking to get lasik and was hoping someone can give me a few recommendations on places to check out.
I went to Lodens to...
therm0pyle replied:
I did Loden a couple of years ago--shortly before they quit having to do the whole flap thing. It was 2200 per eye at the time, I believe, but that was including a bit of a discount for VSP. Other than dry eyes (which is a normal side-effect for a few years after the procedure) I've had no problems at all and my vision is now 15/20. Not sure about other Lasik places in the area, but Loden was good for me.
Woody_0311 replied:
I went to Ming Wang. A lot more expensive, but he is internationally known and respected. No complaints
FoxTrotW replied:
Dr. Ming Wang. He also cuts a mean rug on the ballroom floor.

Lasik advice?
A friend wants to know of a good lasik eye doctor in Nashville. He needs to see if he's a candidate, and if so, he wants the best surgeon. Does anybody...
Becky S. replied:
Ming Wang! Drew and I both went to him and agree with all comments stated above about him! Except, he did discuss his lunch plans while working on my eyes, which did make me nervous, but my eyes turned out great and that was 3 years ago!
Rob S. replied:
Ming Wang. But dance with him first!
Katherine M. replied:
Ming Wang
James L. replied:
And....... Ming Wang is the winner!!!!
Tiffany B. replied:
Jim Loden!
Jackie R. replied:
former client, Loden Vision Lasik, tell him I recommended him
Mitch T. replied:
I'll offer another suggestion Gil. Dr Daniel Bregman. He has done work on both of my parents, both of my in-laws, my sister-in-law and a dozen of my fishing buddies. He headed the Opthalmic center at Walter Reed. His resume might not read like a who's who but his patient list sure does. He's worth sitting down and talking with. Use my name as a referral if you do. Known him for over twenty years, he gave my mother her sight back!!!
JoAnna B. replied:
My husband really liked Dr. Loden. Excellent work and excellent follow-up.
Richard R. replied:
I've had patients Lasik done both by Dr. Daniel Bregman and Dr. Loden. all with excellent results. Because of the advancements in the lasers and the years of experience, I have not seen a complication with Lasik in about 10 years. All 3 of these Doctors would be excellent choices.
Melissa T. replied:
Erich Groos is an extremely good ophthalmologist. I have very bad eyesight and I've been to almost everyone in town. I've been going to Erich Groos for several years and I'm very happy. I'm not a LASIK candidate, but Dr. Groos removed some scar tissue several years ago and it was a really good experience.
Nan P. replied:
Ming Wang did my surgery 10 years ago and it was great. I had glasses everywhere and woke up after surgery and could read the stock quotes in the paper. He did one eye for distance and one for reading. I am just now needing reading glasses again so will talk to Dr. Wang after the first of the year to discuss my opions.
Richard R. replied:
I've had countless patients have Lasik surgery with Dr. Ming Wang and they all had excellent results. He is highly over-qualified to do Lasik. He has done 3 artificial corneas on 3 of my patients that had been totally blind for 20-30 years and they all are seeing with at least a 20/50 acuity. If you have about an hour, you might try reading his resume. It reads like a who's-who in medical academia.
Elizabeth H. replied:
Bill and I both chose Dale Pilkinton over 10 years ago - excellent results.
This may not be necessarily a Donelson thing, but...any recommendations on Lasik eye surgery in the Nashville area? I have heard of the big names that advertise heavily...
Lindsey M. replied:
Summit Eye in Hermitage
Carol A. replied:
Dr. PILKINTON is top notch.
Jeanne C. replied:
I will tell you something that I hope impresses you as you ponder this very important decision. Since I moved to Nashville I've gone to Dr. Meredith Ezell at Summit Eye Associates. I have had Type I Diabetes for many years but am tightly controlled with tight A1-C's etc. I have an extensive eye exam because of having diabetes with Dr Ezell every year and because all of my closest friends have had LASIK I asked her; Doc, would I be able to have this done, even with my diabetes (remember I'm tightly controlled)? Her answer was after a thoughtful pause-"Well Jeanne as well as you control your diabetes, I'd say yes but remember; you only have one set of eyes."
Joyce H. replied:
Summit Eye Associates - surgery over 10 years ago, patient for over 30 years (wow - is that really possible?)
Jereece M. replied:
Dr Bregman did mine about 15 years ago. Very pleased!
Brittany M. replied:
Yes Jessica! About 3 years ago! I still cant believe I can get up and not have to scramble for my glasses! Dr Shofner is the best!! I really had a great experience there!
Christy K. replied:
Summit Eye Associates
Katie T. replied:
Dr. Daniel Bregman at Eye Health Partners.
Sonda L. replied:
Dr. Loden did mine and I had a great experience with him. My right eye required PRK because of extensive corneal scarring and he was great at explaining everything about this procedure.
Lorene H. replied:
Dr. Shofner did my and my husband's and we just love him he did a great job and if I have 2 more eyes I would let him be the one to fix them
Kimberly S. replied:
Dr Gates did mine 11 yrs ago this coming Jan. Had a check up recently and still have 20/20. He did a great job.
Any HipD people had Lasik? I'm considering it and would like to know your experience and who you would recommend. Thank you!
Tara D. replied:
Summit Eye. Dr. William Gates.
Marci H. replied:
my ex husband had it done yrs ago at Dr. Wang's. It was a great decision. He was blind enough that he had to have glasses on if he was awake
Sonda L. replied:
I had mine done a year and a half ago at Loden Vision and it was the best decision I ever made!
Betsy O. replied:
I recommend Dr. William Gates at Summit Eye in Hermitage. Both me and my husband had Lasik with Dr. Gates. I like that he's an eye surgeon first. He really cares about eye health.
Kathleen B. replied:
Had mine done at Summit Eye by Dr. Meredith Ezell. So glad I did it
Steve C. replied:
Best money I ever spent. Dr Gates at Summit eye center
Considering LASIK surgery, anyone know a good Dr. Or know who is a bad one and not to go to?
Any good or bad stories?
Whitney F. replied:
Ming Wang. He's the best. He prays with you right before surgery and everything. I wouldn't have trusted anyone else.
Marshall C. replied:
Ming Wang has done a couple of them...This hour!
Bob E. replied:
I had it done 8-9 years ago and was one of the best decisions I ever made. Dr. Stewart Shofner in Nashville did mine. He is top notch with the credentials to back it up. Tell him I sent you.
Kristin R. replied:
Ming Wang did my mom's she was like legally blind in one eye! I wouldn't trust anyone else- everyone seems to like him!
Jeff P. replied:
Doctor Ming Wang
Will F. replied:
David Ranz does PRK
Rebecca L. replied:
I went to Dr. Ranz in Murfreesboro. He was great....that was 12 years ago. If I had to do it all over again...I would totally do it! Not having to wear contacts or glasses is awesome! Good luck Brad
Aaron P. replied:
Dr Ming Wang did mine too. About 10 yrs ago now. Still have 20/20 and I couldn't see my hand in front of my face before. Best decision I ever made.
Okay, well I can't believe I'm at this point. My 20/400 vision was "cured" in 2000 when I had Lasik surgery: 20/20 thank you Jesus. Now, 15 years later, I'm at 20/40...
Carol H. replied:
I hear Dr Wang is awesome! I have a friend that works there and loves it!
Faith M. replied:
Warby Parker has very cool styles and they are affordable. My lasik didn't last a year.:- (
Natalie M. replied:
Warby Parker is awesome.
Kimberly D. replied:
Faith, how awful! I loved Dr. Stewart Shoffner. They say 15 years is pretty dang good. I feel like I see fine, but the doc is telling me that legally, with the 20/70 in one eye, I need to get glasses for distance once again. Pooooo. Thanks everyone, for your advice! I'll check them all out.
