I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Michael Bernui in Hendersonville. He is amazing. He leaves no stone unturned and he actually listens to his patients. He is a DO and has IV Chelation therapies as well as all the other current modalities.
Stephany G. replied:
I think I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Bernui. I know it was a Dr in Hendersonville that specializes in heavy metal detox/chelation. I was on a waiting list for several months. By the time my appointment finally came we had already adopted our first daughter and were down to one income and just couldn’t pay that much money for just one visit. That is my fear with going to a holistic doctor. I am afraid of paying the high upfront costs for the initial visit only to find out we can’t afford the recommended treatment. I am hoping to find someone who can help me create a diet plan that will address my issues. I know that most natural health professionals prescribe supplements which is perfectly okay. But I don’t want to go to one that says “to be healed you have to take this $300 course of supplements and you can only get it from us”. Then never offer any alternatives or dietary suggestions or things you can do at home. I am thinking about going to Cool Springs Family Medicine. You get two visits for $350 and 50% off labs if you are self-pay. The girl I spoke with said that they work with you to create a specific action plan for diet and supplements. I’m not sure how much follow up visits would be though.
Stephany G. replied:
I called Nashville Integrated Medicine. It was $400 for the initial visit plus labs. Then the follow up visits are $75 for 15 minutes which seemed a bit steep to me, especially since they say they don’t see many patients a day. China Lee, do you know how much the IV therapies tend to run?
Jeanne L. replied:
I am not "rich" but I do pay to see Dr. Bernui. He's very kind and understanding in my opinion. I can't imagine do it yourself IV Chelation.
Stephany G. replied:
Jeanne Knox Locante, no shame in that. I appreciate your recommendation. I'm not sure if he is the Dr. I was going to go to or not. I heard he was supposed to be the best at chelation. We just chose not to spend the money for that at the time since I had been feeling much better. I was by no means trying to start a debate. No one should feel bad for what they can or can't afford. I really appreciate hearing from everyone!
Katrina S. replied:
I second Dr. Carolyn Maxfield. She took over after Dr Jana left who we worked with.
Stephany G. replied:
The only holistic doctor that I have seen is Dr Chapdelaine. I liked him because he took insurance and didn’t push you to buy a bunch of his supplements. But he retired. I tried Cole Family Practice because they came recommended but when I brought up some of these issues it was like they didn’t know what I was talking about. So I was a little confused as to why they get recommended as natural or holistic.

There are specific probiotics that reduce/down regulate histamine, recommend Seeking Health ProBiota Bifido and Allergy Resource Group Lactobacillus with only 3 lacto types L plantarum/rhamnosus/salivarius. Felt like I was allergic to everything, severe rashes and eczema. Stopped all wheat, dairy and beans, followed the Low Histamine Chef, and started these probiotics and Quercitin. Amazing difference!
