For a midwife I HIGHLY recommend Lydia Rhodes with Guiding Hands. Had a wonderful vbac with her in May. For a doula I recommend Abigail Shipp!! Those 2 together is an amazing thing!

My first VBAC was in 2009 with the UNMC midwives. My 2 vbac (2014) and 3 vbac (2016) were with Dr Wells (aka Dr Hobbs) at Bellevue. I'd start interviewing both of them.

Jennifer Hill with Omaha Obgyn Associates is open to VBAC. She actually was the one to suggest it to me. She delivers at Laskeside and Methodist Women's.

It isn't illegal to have a home birth but it is illegal for doctors and midwives in Nebraska to practice in your home. So you either have to have an unassisted home birth or find a midwife from a state where it is legal that is willing to cross state lines. Nebraska law does not make it easy but is possible... I have had both my children at home.

Nebraska is Uber conservative!! I'm from ATL, been here almost 2 years in March. I get it Mama. Kara Holden was my doula and I highly recommended her, even if to find a midwife, I'm sure she will have more networking info. Also, used bridge Chiro. Dr. Jess worked on me while I was pregnant. Also, came to my house during labor to help move things along naturally. Thirdly, if you need a pediatrician who is open minded and I've read the thread about y'all not vaxxing. Dr. Lisa Whitcomb is fantastic and not pushy whatsoever. We Vax, delayed Vax schedule but she's very middle of the road and has clients who don't Vax as well. Hope all this info helps and welcome to the area. Oh and congrats on the babyyyyy!

Agrees with Jenda at Guiding Hands Midwifery. Changed from my OBGYN Dr. Peggy Jones (we didn't agree). Jenda made everything soooooooo much better and didn't BS around! I love her to bits!

Heather and Rachel at the midwives place are absolutely amazing. They deliver at the hospital too if you don't want to give birth at the center. I had an amazing experience with Heather! You can tell they really love what they do and adore the babies.

I will sing the praises of Dr. Karen Carlson at UNMC Olsen Center until I no longer have vocal chords! She encourages VBAC, but also allowed skin-to-skin after my c-section.

Guiding Hands Midwifery. Jenda was absolutely amazing and supportive, and when i ended up having an emergency csection due to baby flipping breech, she was just as dad as was that it wasn't what i wanted, but super sweet and kept me from feeling do wn about it, and made sure my husband was brought into the room as soon as baby was out so that he could at least experience the first moments of her life. Also, Lydia was our favorite from the unmc group where we delivered our son, so you will have great client care regardless of who you fall under. No doubt I'll be returning to them for future babies to attempt vbac

Heather and Rachel are great. Dr Finley is great too. He is actually our family practice doctor. By coincidence he ended up doing my c-section with my youngest after I had to transfer to the hospital (long story) and he was fantastic. I believe he does have a woman OB in his practice. Dr Wells, I think? But I don't know anything about her.

Omg I love Dr FInley and he had great bed side manners. He honestly was way better than any female doctor I have ever had. He took the time to get to know me and asked questions and he had great answers. He is also very supportive of Vbacs. smile emoticon I had a Vbac although Dr Wells Delivered me but she is also such a great doctor.. You would be glad to go to him smile emoticon

Caron Grey was mine for both, was a Creighton doc, so assuming now with CHI, but if you need to go the route of MD and hospital, she was great, however do run into the issue of who is on call when it is go time frown emoticon

Dr Finley and his team is awesome!!! I had a family practice and an obgyn deliver my first 2 but wish I had Finley for all 4!! He's awesome very hands on and natural minded if that's what you want! He is super knowledgable and informative. He is w illing to do whatever you want not what makes him the most money! I have switched our entire family to him because we can all see him! He's both family practice and OB! So baby doesn't change Drs after birth! Love him and his team!

Dr Jill McTaggart with McTaggart obgyn. We deliver at Bergan she is amazing and has small hands. Very down to earth!

If you really want Bergan I would call the midwives with Guiding Hands. Run as fast as you can from Sarpy Co. Obgyn. Dr. Thatcher may be ok but her husband and partner is an awful Dr. He lied to me, was rude, and ultimately assaulted me.

I also love Dr Heather Taggart. She has two offices and delivers at Bergen. She is Alegent.

I enjoyed seeing the midwives at the NE Med Center. If you are set on Bergan, Lydia was one of my favorites and is now at Guiding Hands.

Dr. Beran at Alegent let me labor for 26 hours after water broke and I finally caved and got an epidural. Delivered at 34 hours. She was very understanding and flexible. And came in on her day off to deliver.:-)

Jenda Stauffer is my midwife. She works in Dr Kirsch's office off West Center Rd. There is another midwife in the office, Lydia, who is new. I just met her today. Love Jenda!! One of the other mamas in my Bradley Birthing class (if this is your first baby I'd recommend this too!) had Jenda and couldn't say better things about her.

I loved Dr. Harper - Harrison!!!!

I switched at about that same time to a new OB. Dr Alison Philips. I had twins. So does she. She let me labor with hypnobabies. She rocks!

I used Methodist Physicians obstetricians in CB, but I will just note that Metro OB/GYN is not actually midwives in the same sense that you might expect after an experience at Midwife's Place. They are much more like a stereotypical OB provider that will show up for the actual birth and not necessarily beforehand. I just know some women had different experiences than their expectations based on their use of the word "midwife." It probably varies with the individual provider but hopefully this is something to think about / ask questions about so you know what to expect.

Methodist Physicians are awesome. Just had a baby last month. My OB (Platt) was on vacation when I went into labor & her two partners teamed up for my delivery. They are very supportive of natural techniques. Also delayed cord clamping & 1 hour skin to skin is their standard policy. That was my 3 rd baby/delivery, first at their clinic, & it was by far the best experience.

I used metro for 3 of my 4 kids. I saw a doc for 2 and a midwife for one. Midwife delivered all 3. I have seen most of the providers in that practice. My youngest is a year this december and i got to control when the pitocin was on and off. I could turn it off to labor in tub. My midwife brought me a sandwich during labor and pretty much catered to my wants. She stayed my whole labors each time. She had the ob on call in house when i had pre-e in case we needed to do an emergency c-section. Never pressured into that. Never needed it. She delivered him with cord wrapped twice around his neck twice. She delivered the first one who got stuck and the last one, who was sunny side up all with no issues. With the midwife i saw throughout my pregnancy (she was my first doc's np and i knew her well by then) was the same as the docs. Metro does ultrasounds every visit on every client. I liked it, so didnt object, therefore not sure how they would be if someone did object. She managed my pre-e by extensive monitoring and didnt induce until 39 weeks. I was on bedrest with 2-3 visits a week to make sure we were ok. Plan early am visits. In amd out at that point. I have waited 3 hrs for docs, never for the midwives. Metro is really pushing fir jennie only deliveries and mercy has a new doc. Dr. Shanahan. She ran the ob residency program at bergan and is really nice.

Casie dorr, at Alegent health women's at mercy in cb. Her n dr shanahan are both amazing. Casie is a midwife n amazing. She delivered my last two. Here's the number. And there's no wait in their office n everyone is amazing!!! 7123882860 don't go to metro, I've been going there 17 years!!! They delivered all of mine except last two. They are horrible anymore. Wait is ridiculous as well as service. Had one of nurses doing my blood draw for prenatal tests and she turned her head to grab other vials n turned needle in arm at same time, my arm hurt so bad for a week and bruised. Horrible. That's just one story

I highly recommend researching their cesarean rates. This is a direct indication of how natural/vaginal birth-friendly a provider is. Always ask providers directly but searching by provider name on www.amino.com is a great place to start!

UNMC midwives, birth center in Bellevue, or Finley in Bellevue are the only ones I could recommend. But some of the local midwives have used other ob/gyns with success. Kristen Treat knows a bunch, and is an awesome doula as well. Don't skip on the doula. It's worth the money. I was scheduled with the midwives on my first, but waited to come in, then I had her before the midwife was found and in the meantime, the other people there were giving me crappy advice that I listened to bc I didn't know any better(despite having read books and done Bradley). Second time around I got a doula, and had a great birth despite having some obstacles to overcome.

Totally get a Doula ( or two!) I liked birthing with Dr Finley at Bellevue medical center. He was amazingly supportive of my choices even coming in as a home birth transfer. I am also a Doula feel free to pm me for more info

I love Dr. Molly Beran at Immanuel, and Kristen Treat was my doula. They were both amazing!!

I delivered my second baby with Bridget Wieczorek (CNM) and had an amazing experience! She is working part-time at Methodist.

I had Jenda and Michele for my birth that lasted over 23 hours. Jenda was very kind and gracious and treated me with respect. Michele didn't leave the entire time even when I ended up with a csection. I will be going to them for my next also at their new practice Guiding Hands Midwifery. I will not see the other 2 midwives left at Methodist I did not have a good experience with them and I thought it really lucky they were not on call when I went into labor.

Michele and Jenda's new practice is Guiding Hands Midwifery. They are both amazing. If I have another I will for sure be checking them out and will not return to the current midwives at Methodist. They were both with me for nearly an entire 18 hours while I was laboring at the hospital with my first and Michele was with me during my second c section. They are wonderful!

Interview a few providers to be sure you find the right fit for you. I recommend interviewing the midwives at UNMC, Dr. Finley at Bellevue Med Center and Heather and her new partner at The Midwife's Place. Don't choose a provider or birth place based on their location, but rather how supportive they will be of your wishes. I also very strongly recommend a doula. No matter how wonderful your husband is or how fantastic your provider is a doula will be an investment you will not regret. As with providers, interview several doulas to find the right fit for you. I see Dr Andrea Leishman Barb; she's with Omaha OBGYN. They have offices at lakeside, but are not CHI affiliated and therefore BCBS is fine. She delivers at both Lakeside and Womens. Very supportive of breastfeeding, natural delivery, etc

Dr. Evans sees moms at Methodist too. Just FYI.

I love Dr Bassett, he is so easy going and really listens to your requests and concerns.

Dr. Leishman-Barb and Dr. Collins are in the same practice, too.

Does it have to be an official OB? If not, Dr. Monty Matthews is an MD who practices maternity care at UNMC, and he is really great.

Dr Wells in Dr Finley's practice does OB and I have heard great things about her. I love dr Finley but he doesn't do deliveries anymore which is a tragedy.

I did tons of research and a lot were not taking new patients when I called. I ended up choosing Dr. Guthmann whom was recommended to me and I really like her. She is friendly, keeps me informed on things as i have some complications, and also took my pregnancy seriously as if it's important even from the very beginning:)

"The Midwife's Place is great.:) They are a "Free Standing" Birth Center, but also do well woman care.

The Med Center was a great experience for all three of my births. I got a little push back with some doctors during my non-medicated labors, but my third birth in 2010 was by far the easiest in that respect. I think they improve each year. The midwives and OBs work very well together. I have some very helpful nurses, as well.

I love the midwives at UNMC Olsen Center. Saw them throughout my pregnancy and was really happy with them, and grateful to deliver at UNMC with the OB team on hand when I needed them.
