I have a couple of bikes that need a bit of repair: one has brakes that stick and the other needs a new peddle. Anyone know anyone that does these repairs?!

Check out recyclore.org very cheap.

The bike doctor's phone number is 613-596-2532. One I get paid, I have a couple of bikes I'm going to ask him to repair. I have used Dinardo's in the past without much success. I had to have a spoke replaced last year. They were also suppose to check all the spokes and true the wheel. They did not true the wheel and another spoke on the wheel broke a few weeks later. When I support a local business they get a chance the same as any other place I am going to spend my money. I intensely dislike having to return to a place and argue and fight with the owner over whether repairs were done and done well or not. So, I go elsewhere and will not return. I may not be spending thousands but you would have my loyalty.

For what it's worth, I've had nothing but GOOD experiences at Frank Dinardo's. http://bellscorners.wordpress.com/.../08/cant-frigging-wait/
Craig M. replied:
Maybe, but you get what you pay for. I'm HAPPY that we have a good bike shop in Bells Corners with competent bike mechanics. http://bellscorners.wordpress.com/.../more-craziness-at.../

The bicycle doctor's phone number is here: http://bellscorners.wordpress.com/.../04/18/meals-on-wheels/ Note that the info for recyclore.org (which used to be in the basement of the Lynwood community building before the City took over the Lynwood Village Community Association) is out of date so check the web for current hours.

Ended up going to re-cycles last night and getting two fantastic used bikes for my son and myself. It was a great experience and I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking for a used bike. They’re open tonight from 6-8 pm as well.

I think bicycle repair is deemed an essential service, but maybe not bicycle sales, last time I checked. So places like Full Cycle are open for repair work and selling parts that wear out, like tubes, tires, chains, and cables, but the bike retail side is closed.

You might want to check out the World Wide Web, it's fuckin wild what they have on there.

Foster’s on Bank Street in Ottawa is open until 4 pm everyday except Sunday. Most of their bikes are online if you want to check them out there first.

I bought a new bike at Kunstadt in Kanata three weeks ago. Saw inventory on-line, called to ask someone to measure distance from top bar to ground, ordered it, then picked it up the following day, all set up and ready to ride. Normally, I would want to try the bike out, and buy any accessories at the same time, so I know they fit. It worked out O.K., I did order some accessories from MEC b/c Kunstadt didn't have what I wanted. They took just a few days to arrive by CP.

What do people think of Giant Bikes - http://www.giantottawa.ca? Never dealt with them. Cycle Power seems good to me from my quick googling and I see that they offer free lifetime service when purchasing a bike from them - I like that.. I suck at bike repairs.

Ottawa Safety Council class entitled Gearing Up is amazing. I took it 5 years ago and the instructors were top notch. Unfortunately, I let my licence lapse before doing my M2 exit test so I may take it again this year. They also often have a used gear sale sometime in the spring. I picked up a fully armoured jacket for $50 the last time I went.

Hi Ashley ! I ride a motorcycle and most dealership will not allow test riding without your M2. The Ottawa Safety Council has motorcycle courses. You have to write your M1 first then after your course which I highly recommend taking when you pass they graduate you to M2 (keep in mind though there is a waiting period before you can actually change your licence to a M2)
