Can someone recommend a good 'real' furniture store? My wife and I are looking for a new bed for us and we want something a better than the Ikea special. Real wood,...

http://www.thenewoaktree.com/ Beautiful furniture. My current bed is from there and solid. Friendly staff and the fact that you can choose most of their pieces in any wood they sell and multiple stains + lifetime warranty. Expensive but worth it.

The Amish Store in Balderson has some very nice stuff. Just make sure you can fit a whole tree through your door.

Do not buy anything from the brick. I bought a bed from the brick. Paid quite a bit it wasnt the cheap ones, had a dresser underneath and everything. All solid wood (or so it looked and felt) but when it broke, and I had to disassemble it I realized I could rip the pieces off by hand- and im not superman or anything. Its like it was held together by tacks.

Cheap short term storage? I am looking to store some items for about four months in Ottawa. Not too much furniture - double bed, desk, dresser. The rest is just stuff...
danauns replied:
4 months storage for non sentimental things like a dresser and desk? Really? Desks and dressers are sub $50 items on Kijiji/Craigslist. Sell what you have, and buy similar items on your return. Photo albums, heirlooms, things with irreplaceable value and worth to you - these things are not replaceable and worth storing. I can only assume that is what is in the boxes.... http://www.rsministorage.com/default.action?itemid=4 > you'll get better rates outside of the downtown core, like this spot. http://www.dymonselfstorage.com > These guys are top dollar, but offer a premium service too. Their facilities are impeccable.

I used to work for a place on Bank Street behind the Beer Store called Total Home Consignment. They have a mix of new and used furniture (and the used stuff has a cool price scheme where the price drops continuously until sold). Would recommend checking them out! Family run business (Rick is the owner, his wife Barbara does a lot of the pricing and Mark is a close family friend who's worked with them for a very long time.) they're very friendly! They always have a few interesting/unique pieces and they also have tons of wall art and knick knacks if that's your thing at all (they aren't mine! hahah)

Oh man there's a place by city center...fouddesign! On elm Street. There's some super cool stuff there.

We really like [the Upper Room](http://www.upperroomhome.ca/). Pricewise, they're on par with Randall's, but offer a lot more selection. There are two of them, one on Hunt Club at Merivale, the other on Youville in Orleans. They have some good buyers and some unique stuff. Worth going back there periodically as their inventory changes regularly and their stock is not always seen again. They've also got some connections to custom builders, in Quebec and Ontario, that can give custom or semi-custom pieces. We did this with our kitchen set and have been really pleased with it.

It's always worth looking at St. Vincent de Paul. Lots of elderly people donate stuff there when they either move out of their homes or...die.
flora_pompeii replied:
It's a chain, but Wicker Emporium sells some good stuff and they often have good prices. We like it because the furniture is real wood, not particle board.
kaymac01 replied:
[Mostly Danish](https://mostlydanish.com/) is worth a look. There is a ton of stuff there. Some of it is beautiful. The place is an endless warren of European furniture that the owner has bought and shipped over. Very cool.

Bonds Decor. They sell a lot of good solid wood Canadian furniture so you can get the stain and knobs you want. We have bought all our College Woodwork furniture from them. I wouldn't say it is cheap as it is solid.
