We used them for years until we switched to Magic Jack a few years ago. They're fine, reliable, etc. - just expensive and with the obvious downside of having to make your way through their "customer service" circus if you need to call them.

Magic Jack is good. We paid $105 up front for five years of phone service (about three years ago), including unlimited long distance. It's voiceover IP, so we sometimes lose phone service when our (Rogers) internet goes out, but it's no big deal and doesn't usually last long.
