Alright...it's time to get serious about ordering new tires for my '91 M5... I'll be buying them through Tire Rack. Looking for recommendations on the West Side of town...
Aaron H. replied:
If you're not set on TR, check out America's on 99, across from Busters. I can not say enough positive things about them. If you're set on TR, check out AR Auto Service in Lake O, or 503 Motoring in Beaverton. Both shops do great work, and will take great care when working on your ///M.
Joel F. replied:
Had a terrible experience at America's once. Def ordering through Tire Rack. Will check out both suggestions. Thanks man! Anyone else! Open to all suggestions.
Joel F. replied:
Haha! It's my "daily driver" but I work in the auto industry and have press cars most weeks. My M5 isn't a track car but might hit the track once or twice for fun. But it is overall my daily driver around town fun in the hills car when I drive her. Currently leaning towards PS2 s.... Super Sports might be overkill.
Kyle E. replied:
A few things... Not all America's Tire locations have the same owners or employees. I haven't been to the one on 99 yet, but Aaron and the customers I've sent there have liked it. Conti's new DW and DWS tires are pretty damn good. They aren't the most nimble, but they have a ton of grip and are great in wet weather. The DWS is one of the best all season tires out there and work really well in the snow for an all season. The Pilot Sport A/S may be a little more nimble feeling, but has less traction in the snow and probably a slightly rougher ride(trade off of the better feel/quicker turn in). Regarding the PS2/Super Sports, I LOVE my Super Sports that I put on my 240(the blue one out there yesterday, assuming you are the one who had the black m5). They aren't as twitchy/nimble/responsive as the PS2 but they're more comfortable, should last longer and have more grip in the wet. I was surprised at the ride improvement over my last set of tires. Grip is amazing, all the time. I need to stiffen my suspension now because it hangs on so well... Those are my vote. The only time you don't want a summer tire is when it's snowing. Otherwise, summer tires all the way. All seasons are just for a drop of grip in the snow... Summer tires are designed for rain, too! Just not the "extreme" autox/track tires.

Joel, I have been using a tire place that I have found very competitive. It is called Cascade Auto Accessories, they are located where Airport Way meets 122 nd. It is in the old Honda HQ building. Their web site is www.cascadeautoaccessories.com Their number is 503-258-555. You can ask for Rick or Leanna. This company is a division of Ron Tonkin and do more than tires (i.e. chrome accessories, wheels etc..). They know me but if you mention "Terry from Color Glo" who is a friend of mine that owns a Color Glo franchise in Gresham (he told me about them originally) it will help on the price. Great folks and easy to deal with and Chang in the shop treats everyone's car with kid gloves.
Joel F. replied:
Yea, the black E34 M5 was mine. I think we talked if that blue M3 is yours. My car will never see snow, so no worried there. It'll probably see two track days a year, more for fun than anything. Not racing. I take it into the hills and love grip when it comes to handling. I also don't want to wear out tires in 15 k... Thanks for all the feedback. My buddy also is pushing me to look at Dumlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. Idk. Always been Michelin guy myself...not sure what I'm going to do. Even between the Michelins, I have people on both sides main arguments for the Super Sports and the PS2 s... So yea.
Jeremy W. replied:
Joel, we can certainly take care of everything in one stop here at Matrix Integrated. Karl here is a 30 yr veteran BMW Master tech. If you can pay with cash or check for the tires, we even offer tires through TR at just above our cost shipped here. I would second the Conti DWS, incredible tires for the price. Feel free to message me here or email me for a quote on it all; jeremy@matrixintegrated.cc
Davey O. replied:
I absolutely LOVE my Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs! Although I expect less than 15 k miles. As far as a shop I have had excellent and terrible experiences at AT on 99. I had TireRack send my tires to Trackside Motorsports AnT Tire on N Interstate. It's not close to Beaverton but they were cool and reasonably priced. When in doubt I go to AR Auto Service. I can't say enough about how Awesome they are!
Donald A. replied:
Just out Continental Extreme Contact DWS' on my 2006 M3. Phenomenal tire - much happier than I was with the stock tires or than with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S .
Nick C. replied:
Joel Feder: No one really addressed shops, so I'll plug one for ya! Call Skip at Skip's Wheel Werks. He's just off Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy in Beaverton (convenient for you). Number is 503-641-8001. He can order tires, or you can have them drop-shipped to his location from TireRack (I do it all the time). Family run business, fair prices and no BS. And if you ever wad up a wheel, Skip's one of the best in the biz to get your wheel back to factory spec... he specializes in high-end cars and wheels, particularly aftermarket wheels. Feel free to drop my name when you talk to him. Good luck!
Joel F. replied:
I just talked to Tire Rack. The Fuzion ZRis on my M5 are being discontinued. The dude I talked to actually owns Super Sports on his daily driver. He was in-between the DWs and Super Sports when he was shopping. Basically said if you have the extra cash, the SS are the best you can buy. But I wouldn't be disappointed with the DWs. Said the Star Specs and Bridgestones I was looking at would be much louder and wear faster than I would want... This all makes some sense to me since I've always been a Michelin guy...idk. Just have to figure out if I have the extra cash.
Patrick D. replied:
Less than half the price of Michelins and I doubt Michelins have twice the grip or life. I run these on my blue Volvo 242 and they do just fine in all conditions. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=28752&counter=1&ar=45&rd=17&sw=false&cs=235

You're nuts DA! The A/S Sport is the best tire out there unless you're running a true summer tire. ;)
I have some discoloring on my tires and was wondering what is the best product to put on them to bring back the shine? Also is there any recommendation on cleaning...

Ken K. replied:
Don't use Armor All as it will turn the tires brown. I use Mequires tire shine. SOS pads do great for white walls.
Hugh H. replied:
The brown stuff is antiozonant and protects the rubber. It works itself to the surface every time you drive. I noticed after hard cornering in autocross or track, it returns (blooms) very quickly. Make sure that when you clean it off and dress it with a product, the product contains antiozonant. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/19826-best-tire-sidewall-shine.html#post247705 I don't like the look of tire shine myself, so I've been using Adam's VRT and happy with the results. http://adamspolishes.com/shop/exterior/adam-s-super-vrt-tire-trim-dressing.html
Can anyone recommend a tire shop in the Beaverton area that I can both trust with my car and that has a machine that can fit a 19x13 wheel? I figured I'd ask before I...
Matthew S. replied:
Americas Tire has the best selection of "real" tires and can order great ones quick. Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Dunlop Direzza ZII, great tires just a couple days away at the most. When my e46 m3 came back with a big fat dent in the door one time, I got a quote and it didn't take any arm twisting to get them to buy me a new door. The tire guarantees aren't pro rated, but literal tire replacements. Never had a wheel scratched or a poor balance. Consistent quality. Oh and guess what, they will match tire rack!
Kristin A. replied:
Jeremy at Les Schwab in wilsonville is the best. He has big giant vossens on his own car and understands how nerve racking it is to have expensive wheels and not want them damaged.

Discount Tire Co near Tanasbourne! It's right behind Wendy's. (They used to be America Tire Co and recently changed names, so don't the name deter the quality). My dad's continuously gone there for years and swears by them (he always sees Jose). We just got brand new, great tires on both our cars from them this year.
Tiffany M. replied:
Les Schwab in St Helens has been great with us. We will continue to go there until they give us a reason not to.

Les Schwab in Scappoose or St. Helens, both are great.
Hi All, my wife and I are looking to get back into cycling after a 10 year hiatus. Two quick questions - 1) any recommendations for good training tires for the coming...
I used to swear by the contis as well. I then discovered the Specialized tires with armadillo. These are the most cut/flat/nuclear fallout tires I've ever found. I'd recommend them over anything for the fall winter riding we do. https://www.specialized.com/us/en/components/tires/all-condition-armadillo-elite/117804
Chris H. replied:
I'd recommend a Professional Bike Fit for your aches and pains. Times have changed and probably so has your body. Call Beaverton Bike Gallery and ask for Rambo. One of the best in town.
Can someone recommend a shop in Tualatin (or nearby) where I can get the oil changed and tires toped up (they're running a little squisy)? I havne't needed service...
Rick F. replied:
Here is a youtube on how to change the oil in a Helix, http://tinyurl.com/puxqcdw and here are some written instructions http://tinyurl.com/nvrvbql. I also buy oil by the gallon so if you like you can just reimburse me for what you need.
