Agree about http://www.citybike-prague.com/rent-bike-prague/ good whole day rate, they speak English. As to your route, I would avoid going through the centre of the city, get the Metro from Namesti Republiky to Nove Butovice and start from there, the combination of cobblestone streets, trams, segways, tourists and Czech Drivers makes that part of town a nightmare. Or even better, get teh metro to Smichokse Nadrazi and ride along the river to karlstyn instead, part of the track is dirt but it is much better than the cross country route you have planned.

This is a good long route with some nice climbs. You don't need to take the metro out of the city too and the roads are good. https://www.strava.com/routes/2397937 For weekend group rides follow this page: https://m.facebook.com/pragueroadies

Sam Lord Russell is probably right. This is what Prague 1 says: http://www.praha1.cz/cps/doprava-a-parkovani-4782.html The only catch is, it can´t be parked on the pavement - just on the official parking spaces on the road. I would buy a good used bike rather than a cheap new one. Especially for kids, lighter is better. It's more manageable and therefore safer. Author A-Matrix is a good choice. We have them for our kids. Found one on Bazos for 4500Kc: http://deti.bazos.cz/inzerat/47008694/detske-kolo-Author-A-Matrix.php

http://www.aktivnesdetmi.cz/ Unfortunately, it's not in Prague, but it's a nice day out if you want to visit Hradec on the way. The owner speaks excellent English too, and probably has the biggest selection in Cz.
