Dr. John McCarthy@SSM on Clayton Road. A week before visiting him I had a horrible experience with an internist Dr. King to get a second opinion and he told me "Move out of the area. You are looking for health problems that dont exist. Low level radiation does not cause health problems." Then he told me I shouldnt read whats on the internet. Need
Heidi L. replied:
less to say i informed him that i have worked for the top healthcare medical publication in the country for 10 years and i know what credible resources to turn to so dont tell me how to live my life. Im simply asking for a second opinion and you clearly need to be educated on the matter. this is why im my own advocate and take charge of my health and if a doctor does not listen and treat me with dignity and respect (dont tell me its in my head and dismiss the fact that I have MS, several other immune problems, 10 lesions on my brain and have had numerous cysts - in my stomach, mouth, adrenal glands, uterus and many other weird things as irrelevant And accuse me of looking for something that isnt there. so when i went to see Dr. McCarthy at SSM I brought up the topic (provided the articles) and asked him to please make note of it in my file because it may not make sense now but it may be very important in the future because new problems arise on a regular basis. He told me he is well aware of the contamination and has had numerous patients who have expressed the same concerns. He was very supportive, he LISTENED and encouraged me to continue bringing it up to every doctor I visit. Yes, it can be discouraging but we have to continue being our strongest advocate. We know our bodies and we know when something is wrong so even if you come across a doctor who is not willing to listen and hear what you are telling them, go to another doctor because believe me, they are out there and to me Dr. McCarthy is one of those doctors. clearly i needed to get this off my chest:).

Heidi LaGrande, I am sorry to learn of your health battles and frustrations with doctors being disrespectful and dismissive of your obvious health issues. Please know you can always vent here as you are in good company and many here understand all too well. We are extremely thankful Dr. Faisal Khan, Director of the STL County Dept of Public Health, wrote his recent articles within the past month that fit on two pages you can print out and bring to your physicians from this point on explaining what happened environmentally in our community and you are NOT fabricating your medical problems or what you think may have caused your current issues and future health battles. I am sure I speak for many here we are happy for you finding Dr. John McCarthy at SSM. Thank you for sharing his name here in order to help others. Extremely helpful! God bless.
