[Metropolitan Counseling Services](http://www.mcsatlanta.org/) has a lot of great therapists. I know that's not exactly what you're looking for, but those guys could recommend someone to you.

I was trying to get in with Emory and quit and went to Grady. Once you get in with them it's so easy.

You should look for a psychologist that specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression, if you want someone who won't necessarily start with drugs. Source: Wife is a psychologist for the state, and I read her your summary calling out psychiatrists by name...

I think you want a psychologist. I have had good luck with EMDR therapy with a LCSW - Mindy Cohen.

Do not go to PACT. They've treated me like shit for years and lied to me, charging me for paperwork that they never filled out for a super expensive medication that they never requested.

FYI, don't be ashamed. You're sick, and going to a doctor for it. No different than anyone with a cold or the flu.

Just in case you didn't see [this thread](http://www.reddit.com/r/Atlanta/comments/ytqr1/hey_ratlanta_can_you_help_a_fellow_redditor_whos/c5 z0 hl9), there were some pretty solid therapists offered. The thread wasn't for eating, but I figure you could use it for leads. My suggestion, Cliff Bostock, has written a lot about nutrition so he might be good for you too.

I work for a practice in Atlanta. Both our psychiatrists take BCBS, but the therapists don't (they do work on a sliding scale, though, if finances are a concern). You can PM me if you want the contact info, website, etc.

I don't know if you have much experience with therapists, but you may have to shop around a little before you find one who works for you. Definitely let them know about your needs when you first talk to them and ask of that is something they feel competent dealing with. Even when they are, it might take a few tries to find one you click with. Different therapists have different styles which work with different kinds of people and problems.

psychologists and psychiatrists aren't really interchangeable.

I see Dr. Samuel Brown. She doesnt specialize in eating disorders as far as I know but she is in that area and I would defiantly recommend her.

Don't be thrown by the "Samaritan" part - it's not a Christian Counseling Center (at least, they only integrate that if it's something you want, and psychiatry has nothing to do w/ the therapy part). Rich Waldman is a psychiatrist in Lenox Pointe who may be a good fit. Again, doesn't specialize in ED, but has worked in University settings before so he's worked w/ folks with them, and he's male if that would be helpful. Good Luck

Not in Atlanta, but Dr. Bantley is by far the best psychiatrist I have ever seen. A really kind guy, you can tell he really cares about finding the right meds for you and improving your life. For 3 years I saw a therapist doing her residency at Emory. They worked out of [The Tufts House](http://www.psychiatry.emory.edu/about/tufts_house.html). They have several therapists and base the $ on a sliding scale. The woman I had is no longer there (after 3 years the residency is over) but it was a fantastic experience. I currently go to someone in Roswell that is alternative-lifestyle friendly, if that is something you may be interested in too. (I do not know if The Tufts House still provides therapy sessions but can't hurt to give them a call, right?)

I've seen Bonnie Valente over at Lenox and Buford highway before. She does a great job, though the location is pretty bad around rush hour.

I looked at the tricare site. Longstreet clinic was listed as was dr. Gilbert. At Longstreet you will eventually find a dr. You like. Dr Gilbert is alone, so a totally different office type. I do not use either. I suggest calling challenged child for play therapist recs and childcare.

Dr. Tasneem Bhatia with Atlanta Wholistic and Integrative Medicine. She just worked it out with CHOA Eggleston for my son To receive his first of two IVIG infusions. She will do all the bloodwork you need. She is fantastic! My son has ADHD and a seizure disorder on top of his PANDAS diagnosis.

I agree that your need a psychiatrist too. We have a psychopharmacologist which means she is a psychiatrist who went to pharmacy school and is board certified in neurology. She is here in Altanta. Her name is Dr. Deborah Botti. She gave my son the original PANDAS diagnosis but Dr. Bhatia has been able to get the bloodwork and IVIG that my son needed. Dr. Botti can be reached at 404-812-0011.

I'm hesitant to recommend him... but Dr. Ross Grumet specializes in adult ADHD. He has a tendency to over prescribe, but I do believe that's why people go to him.

I saw Dr. Candice Adair. She was wonderful - very thorough, and didn't just throw drugs at me like my previous practitioner. Her evaluation showed that my problem was more with anxiety than ADHD, and that counseling would be more effective than pharmaceuticals. She told me, "Adderall can make anyone focus, but it won't necessarily solve your root problems."
