Help! I need some "number talks" for 2 classes of some very "low" 5th graders...any ideas? (a good thing---we talk about having a Growth Mindset every day!)

Theses are great! https://elementarynumbertalks.wordpress.com/3 rd-4 th-and-5 th-grade-number-talks/
Mimsey M. replied:
ok, if this got posted twice I'm sorry... internet trouble... when you get a chance get a copy of Cathy Humphry's book: Making Number Talks Matter... it's full of great direction, but a free resource I've used for 5 th grade can be found at the following link: http://www.svmimac.org/images/Cristo_Rey_-_Middle_Level_Bank.pdf

the best bet in a situation like this is Kaplan or Princeton Review. Both have excellent resources and basically the same techniques. There are "private" operations that may offer more personal attention but the information is the same and it comes down to practice anyway. For my money princeton is better same substance and less flash. The level of math is sophmore/junior high school level tops. No weird proofs or derivations required. The trick is to practice problems to get confidence and speed. What you want to do is to give yourself enough time before the exam to prepare. I tell people the more the better, I personally hate to rush. Some suggest a more focused approach to begin preparation 6 to 10 weeks prior to the date of the exam. I am happy to assist in any way that I can. If you haven't had or do not really recall the math from that point in your life the only real solution is to review it. Bottom line. There is no true quick fix that a tutor can provide that practice cannot cure

Jane Lowell Evans has a good idea. The Community Council will give them out next year to students who can't afford supplies. They hook kids up with almost all the items on their school lists. The Community Council does a tremendous job!

Ok, I suck at learning languages. But if I, as a busy "adult" want to learn Spanish, would folks recommend a class, a tutor, Rosetta Stone?

You can try the program yourself. Click on the link for our free demo: http://www.rosettastone.com/demo/?cid=sm-fb-yy-demo & let us know what you think.

You can use Mango for free on the library website! Like Rosetta Stone but ...free.
