Does anyone have any recommendations for a more natural/holistic local pediatrician? My friend just moved to Culpeper, has 3.5 kids (due in June) and is on the hunt for...

If you're willing to drive to Orange. Dr. Pappas is a wonderful pediatrician. 540 661 3025.
We see Dr. Jakum and LOVE him. He is very personable, knowledgeable and always happy!!
Amy B. replied:
I too really like Dr. Jakum but we should all stop recommending him to new people. It's hard enough to get an appt with him and if more people go to him it will get even more difficult. Just kidding-sort of.
Megan D. replied:
Cindy Curtis, do you have a website for Dr. Johnson? Amelia Ray Chorak, do you have a website for Dr. Boggs? I found Dr. Jakum online.
Is there a family medicine MD who is also a naturopathic doctor or ayurvedic doctor in the Cville area? It would be for myself, so not necessarily pediatrics.
Sandra H. replied:
just met sarita Bennett, she is a DO physician and also a midwife 4345330543
Kim L. replied:
I second Janna ' s comment about Dr Sarita Bennett! VERY COOL DOC.
Lena M. replied:
Dr. Campbell at Albemarle Square Family Medicine is an MD who has also studied with Andrew Weil and she is amazing!
Looking for a new primary doctor for myself and my kids. Anyone know anything about Spring Creek Family medicine or Piedmont Pediatrics? Thanks!
Jerrie K. replied:
Dr. Smyth is an awesome pediatrician. She's at Palmyra Medical Associates, 17 Centre Ct, 434-589-6644.
Carrie W. replied:
If you're okay with going into Cville, we really loved Dr Periello at Pediatric Associates of Charlottesville downtown. She was wonderful and we hated leaving her. And they have after hours urgent care until 9 and an after hours nurse after that you can call.
Deborah N. replied:
I love Spring Creek. Dr. Montelese is great, but hard to get to. The last several times, I used Andrew Hawkins. He is young, so will be around and he even called me at home to check on how I was doing. I think he is great.
Maggie F. replied:
I love Dr Dagli for myself and husband. Pediatric Associates, Dr Knight 1 st option and Dr Periello as my 2 nd option for my daughter. They are in town. I've heard good things about the doctors at the lake. We are moving back to the lake but we will still use them. Amazing care. They always take their time with us.
Elizabeth W. replied:
Palmyra Medical accepts Tricare - however the issue may be if you have Tricare Orime. We had to drop Prime and move to Standard to find someone out here. If you are active duty, that may be a problem. Good luck in your search!
Karen M. replied:
I also second Downtown Family Health on Avon St. We see Jackie Curtis and she is amazing with the kids. We have truly loved going there. We used to go to Palmyra Medical, but they got a little too pushy for my liking...we liked the doctors personally, but their views and ours were becoming more and more different.
Jessica S. replied:
My girls use Dr Smythe as well, she truly is awesome! And Palmyra Medical will see adults as well. Piedmont Pediatrics will only see kids
Toby Y. replied:
My family goes to UVA Zion there are a lot of good docs there. Dr Clebak and NP Bednar practice there and out of the office by the main gate beside ace hardware.
Jen T. replied:
Melissa Spring Creek Medical takes Tricare Prime and both the doctors are nice. They also have a nurse practioner. I don't think any of the pediatric offices in Charlottesville take Prime. My kids go to Orange Pediatrics that is part of UVA. It's crazy how there is no other pediatrician closer with UVA, but they will send you to UVA Specialists in Charlottesville if needed.
Melissa T. replied:
Dr. Marotta at Family Medicine of Albemarle
Donie S. replied:
Dr. Smyth and dr. Nolte are amazing doctors.
Mollyann K. replied:
We use Dr. Mayo at Piedmont... She is wonderful and so good with kids. Plus they have extended hours which comes I'm handy for emergencies.
Dionne L. replied:
I have used Spring Creek Family Medicine before for myself and my daughter. We were pleased with the care we received there.
Any success/suggestions in finding a Pediatrician in C-ville that is open to a reduced or alternative vaccine schedule?
Johanna E. replied:
Dr. Eric Rydland with Kids Wellness does alternative vaccines (nosodes). He's great. 434-984-5437
Stephanie S. replied:
We're in the process of switching to Downtown Family entirely based on vaccine concerns. (We just got fired from our previous pediatrician.)
Jonelle K. replied:
My whole family goes to Albemarle Square Family Healthcare- http://www.albemarlesquarefamilyhealthcare.com/ - primarily we see Dr. Niehaus and Nurse Practitioner Carter and both of them have been very open to us doing an alternate vaccination schedule.
Maddie K. replied:
We were at Downtown family and switched to Albemarle square. We do delayed vaccines. I had some issues with downtown. I have been happy with Albemarle Square.
I think my 2.5 year old son may have seasonal allergies. Before I take him to the pediatrician, does anyone have any holistic remedies to suggest? Thanks.
Sheri E. replied:
Hi Sara, I use Bob Clickner, for many things that I don't want to take medecine for. Several years ago I had chronic hives and he was able to rid me of them. He is often described as an acupuncturist, but I have almost never done that. usually much less invasive. Here's his FB page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Robert-V-Clickner-LAc/119099968131259

Mary M. replied:
welcome Sandra, C'ville is a great place to live. In terms of holistic practitioners i would recommend Dr. David Brents who is a holistic chiropractor and has so many other offerings as well including energy work, cranial sacral, etc.. In terms of acupuncturists i really like Sarabeth Whedbee. Cindy Janechild is a former nurse practitioner and now practices cranial sacral work, Zero balancing, etc... She is perhaps my favourite holistic practitioner in the area. In terms of doctors, you may want to check out the following: http://www.healthyvim.org/practitioners.html
Amy S. replied:
Jennifer AndDallas Smith, that was very much my experience as well. We ended up settling on Ashley Rennick. I was sort of lightly bullied by Dr Gelburd about the whooping cough vaccine (to which we have a documented family history of reactions so that was our biggest no go in terms of vaccines) and we ended up with Ashley for the next appointment. She's been amazing and very informative, accommodating, and no pressure about it and I think she would be completely accepting of either viewpoint.
Mary E. replied:
I recommend Downtown Family Healthcare - great practice and I have found all of them to be very open to alternative ideas - they will even suggest herbal or homeopathic solutions.
K H. replied:
Yes to Downtown Family Health for sure! All the Drs and Nurse Practicioners there are wonderful. Virginia Integrative Medicine is amazing, but they are not general practicioners, and you have to pay them upfront, then submit insurance yourself. I go to Megan Custer of Ivy Commons Family Chiropractic (she works with all ages) with associated Zero Balance/Massage by Becky Graves.
Jennifer S. replied:
We really like Downtown Family also but some of the drs have different opinions than others about vaccines. They suggest a delayed schedule but I had a friend who was not received well for not vaxing. One dr wanted my youngest to be up to date on his shots by two but another isn't worried about it at all, so you kind of need to shop around at the practice, I think. All that I have visited do suggest homeopathic first though and they even offer cranio-sacral massages in their office. B/c of that my insurance covered it after my concussion. Another option is Prax Chiropractic.
Lena M. replied:
Love, love Albemarle Square Family Health. I see Dr. Campbell but Dr. Shaw and Dr. Neihaus are good too.
Lena M. replied:
Yes. We do not do the typical vaccine schedule with our 2 year old. We do them. Just spread them out. Not sure how they would react to no vaccines at all but they are very open minded in general. They are a standard medical practice but have been v ery open to natural meds. Dr. Campbell studied with Andrew Weil (a natural health practitioner) after completing her medical degree. They block out huge chunks of time for each patient and come in and literally chat with you about your life and health concerns. They have drop in hours every afternoon. They are just AMAZING. You may have to get on a waiting list to become patients but it is well worth it. Don't see Dr. MacFarland, he is more traditional meds and heavy in antibiotics. Everyone else is fabulous.
Can anyone offer a recommendation on a dentist and a pediatrician? I've heard good things about downtown family Healthcare but no one specific. Has anyone seen Bronson...
K H. replied:
all the practicioners at Downtown Family Health are great! Dr Frank Jones is a good dentist, I was there for cleaning and then cavity fill on the recommendation of a friend who had good experiences there too.
Jocelyn P. replied:
Our kids see Dr. Stump for dentistry. We're comfortable with pretty proactive care with dental work, so it might not be what you're looking for, but they're great with kids. I can't go into the office at all myself (air freshener, asthma/migraines), but my husband takes a day to take them in. The website is the rather unfortunately named: http://www.cvillepedo.com/
Jill K. replied:
We love Downtown Family Healthcare and Clarke, Farmer & States dentists' office (off Barracks Rd & Cedar ' s Court).
Johanna E. replied:
Dr. Eric Rydland is very good as far as pediatricians go & we see Jennifer Dixon for dentistry.
Sara D. replied:
I have heard great things about Dr. Rydland also
Cynthia replied:
I and my kids love Charlottesville Pediatric Dentistry .
