Dr. DeTommaso is the best DPM in town, but it's difficult to get in to see him. He does surgeries almost exclusively now. http://www.fwortho.com/index.cfm/doctors/doctor-bios/dominick-detommaso-dpm/
Beverly W. replied:
Dr. Hilker is excellent . He's done alot of surgeries on my Aunt and my friends. I've even been to him! He's got an office out at DuPont by the YMCA.

I'm sorry, I should of told you Dr. Hilker is a foot Dr.

I live in Angola and am looking for a family doctor who is open to our selective vaccination schedule for our kids. Does anyone know of anyone around here? I'm also...
Jessica B. replied:
I would head down to Auburn and see Dr. Rexroth or any of the Drs in that group except Dr. Ingram(he is not so friendly in the area of selective/no vaccines)
Ashley U. replied:
Thank you Jessica. We selectively vaccinated our daughter. My son has had one set of shots but we actually recently decided not to continue with them at this point. We just moved to the area from Mississippi, so I definitely want someone who will work with us on this. My doctor in MS was not friendly with us on this subject, so I appreciate your help with suggesting someone who will be! Have you seen Dr. Rexroth before?
Ryanne K. replied:
Dr. Goudy has no problem with our very slow and selective vaccination preferences and he's in Auburn.
Jessica A. replied:
Dr Dearth is very good. He's in Grabill. I live in Hamilton and haven't minded the drive. He deals with a lot of Amish and as never said a thing over the way we are raising our son. I met with Dr. Rexroth because of everyone saying how great he was on here. I must have caught him on an off day. He was impersonable, didn't greet us, left the room and never came back after telling me he would be right back, and I had to say over and over that we weren't vaccinating. I then had to fill out a form so the next time we were vaccinating we would be ready. Needless to say we won't be going back to him.
Roseli B. replied:
Dr Sarazzine doesn't require vaccinations, but he is "pro-vaccine," although he won't push the point.
Roseli B. replied:
We waited for Dr Rexroth for 2 hours and then he was in and out.
Jessica B. replied:
I keep hearing that Dr. Rexroth has long wait times, but we've never experienced that. I love that he doesn't insist on unnecessary well baby checks. Caroline was seen at 3 day and then at 4 months and then he said we dont have to come back until she is a year. And honestly, I think if we didn't want that he wouldnt mind (I tend to worry because I have scrawny kids, so I do like to check in more than just for sick visits)
Janis C. replied:
I once told Dr Chase in that office that my daughter hadn't seen a doctor and he complimented me on doing a good job with her.
Jessica B. replied:
Yup! We've been with Dr. Rexroth since birth and he came very highly recommended. I think many others on this site will second the recommendation:)
Ashley U. replied:
I just looked him up on healthgrades.com and it said there was a history of medical malpractice with him. Any idea what that is about? Sorry for all of the questions!
Stephanie M. replied:
Our entire family goes to Dr. Muhler in Ft. Wayne. We don't vaccinate our kids until their second birthday and he has never had an issue with that, our reluctance to use antibiotics as a first treatment, or our preference for holistic remedies.
Amy S. replied:
Ashley Ulrich, this is way off your subject, but where in MS? I am from Hattiesburg. We Mark O'Brian at Maplecrest Ped. in Ft. Wayne. He has been so awesome.
Can anyone recommend a great dentist? Eye doctor? Family doctor? I just recently moved to fort wayne.
Naomi H. replied:
For a dentist we love Dr Druley in Grabill.
Ashley H. replied:
Dr painter is a great dentist off Lahmeyer road in a Fort Wayne. He's very patient and will sit and chat with you to get to know you. Doesn't do metal fillings and takes all precautions when getting them out. His staff is always very sweet and know you by name when you walk in the door. He calls you personally after having work done to make sure you are feeling okay. Their phone number is (260) 486-3100 if interested.

hey everyone. i'm new around here and i'm so glad i have found this group! i know there has been talk about pediatricians already...but i was just wondering if anyone...
Alisha S. replied:
I don't know anything about him but I really like Dr. Lynda Otto for a ped. She supports vaccines but lets you as the parent make the choice.
Jess W. replied:
I am also seeing Dr. Otto. My son is 6 weeks and has only had 1 appointment with her but I really like her. Like Alisha said, she lets you make the decision about vaccines. I also liked that they immediately took me back to a room when I checked in so that I didn't have to sit in the waiting area with sick kids and a fussy baby.
Jewels J. replied:
Same thing happened with me Jessica Danielle Webb! We couldn't go to Dr Landrigan for refusing Hep B vaccine.
Amber D. replied:
I don't have a lot of information about Dr. Jakacki but I do know what I have heard has all been good. Welcome to this group and the area!
Janis C. replied:
Sara, the office will be able to tell you about your insurance. Yes, Elizabeth, Kori is great. It's nice that all the midwives there are different so that if you don't personally connect with one, you probably will with another. Families are fortunate to have the option of a birth center so close by. There are so few in the state.
Elizabeth W. replied:
If she doesnt work out Dr. Gregg Veerkamp of pediatric associates was fine with our selective/delayed schedule for vaccines.
Jennifer M. replied:
Dr. Wolfe of Pediatric Associates stopped taking new patients a long time ago, but she has given us absolutely no hassle when we skip/delay vaccines. It might be worth calling the office to see if it's an office-wide stance, or at least who else might be open in that way. Because otherwise, it's a large office with lots of people in it, and that means they're often open when you need them. They have seen our kids on both Saturdays and Sundays when needed. They call back after-hours instead of sending you to a Rappid Care. You don't always get your own doctor when you call (Dr. Wolfe is part time there and part time home with her kids) but you always know who you'll get instead, and with three kids I've only had butted heads with someone different once.
Jess W. replied:
It is not an office-wide stance at Pediatrics Associates. I had originally planned to take my son there to see Dr. Landrigan. He wanted me to bring my baby in the day after he was born (I had a home birth) and when I didn't, he almost refused to see us. Then they insisted on giving my son the Hep B vaccine when he came in, even though during my initial phone call with them they told me it could wait until he was 2 months. He definitely wasn't flexible about vaccines at all.
Does anyone have a family doctor that they would recommend? My youngest is 16 and I am looking for a doctor that we can all go to to simplify things. It also needs to be...
Jessica B. replied:
I recommend Dr. Rexroth or anyone else at their practice. Evening and Saturday hours and very parent friendly.
Jessica B. replied:
It is. My 6 yr old hasnt switched to him yet and I HATE the doc he has right now. I drive to Auburn weekly to see the midwife and we'll be delivering up there as well. Dr. Rexroth and Chases office are awesome. Like everyone else has said very respectful of a more "crunchy" lifestyle, very respectful of what you desire as a parent. For little ones they dont obsess over well child checks and vaccines....its really nice.
Sara M. replied:
Dr. O'Hara had been good for us. She doesn't bother me about selectively vaccinating and listens to my concerns when I don't want to jump on the antibiotic train. Her office is close to the corner of Illinois and Scott Rd so it's on the southwest side of town.
Jessica B. replied:
Dr. Ohara's partner on the other hand is very aggressive and nearing verbal abuse on his vaccination stance. He is also very treat, treat, test, test, test. Very modern medicine and technology biased.
Ryanne K. replied:
I don't know where you live, but Dr. William Goudy in Auburn is great. He isn't necessarily "Holistic", but he respects my opinions about trying natural health remedies before he gets the prescription pad out! He also doesn't bug me about my alternate vaccine schedule that I use for my kids and I know he has some unvax kids that go to him too.
Carrie H. replied:
We really like Dr. Joseph Mattox at Parkview North, New Vision Dr. We allows us to decide on our vaccination schedule (which our 2 yr old hasn't started any) and is supportive of Chiropractors. Our whole family goes to him and that is what we really like.
Tara F. replied:
I second Dr. Rexroth. That's who we go to also and the office as a whole is great.
Arlene M. replied:
I third Dr. Rexroth or Dr. Chase of Family Practice in Auburn. But not Dr. Ingram of this practice - he is not vaccination friendly.
Janis C. replied:
We got to Dr. Rexroth as well and have seen Chase. Both homeschool and have large families. Rexroth's wife had their children at home so he doesn't hassle us.
