Mass transit is not “good”, but it may be serviceable in that part of town. Take a look at IndyGo.net

As mentioned, Blue Indy is a formidable way of travel if you don't have a car. If you're looking for a place to stay, I'd suggest looking at AirBnB, there's plenty of people that have extended stay options.

We have a bus system, but it isn't good. I live on the east side. With the time it takes me to walk to the bus stop, wait for the bus, have the bus take me, etc it'll take at least 4 x longer than if I drove myself. Driving myself may take 20 minutes to get to my destination, the bus may take up to 2 hours when all is said and done.

2060 Shadeland is a pretty high crime area...so you won't want to be walking around at night.

So we do have an ok bus system and the usual uber/lyft services. Plus we have a car rental service calles Blue Indy, but not a location really near you. So the main problem with the area you are in is that it's further away from the downtown area and mostly hotels. So you could easily rent a room, but as far as renting a home for 2 months thats where you need help. I would reach out to the group you are visiting and see what other students have done in the past.
