We also use Camelback Pediatrics and love them! Dr. Campbell is our primary and is great, but we've seen almost every other dr at the practice and have liked them all. 30 min drive, but lots of great places to go in the area before/after apt.

Dr. Alexander at Camelback Peds has been seeing my 10 year old since he was born, and I also LOVE Dr. Kristin Struble!!

I also use Spectrum Health Center with Dr Criollo, since my daughter was born.

I second/third Spectrum Health! My daughter has seen both Dr. Crillio and Dr Singleton. Both are awesome. Jubeelieve is great too.
Anyone know of good small local Gym that doesn't charge an arm and leg for membership?

Anytime Fitness is a good deal for me because I travel a lot and their gyms are located nationwide (as well as right near my house).

Meal delivery during residency (suggestions?) Pretty simple, I’m looking to try out a meal delivery service before starting residency to see if it would be worthwhile....
AH135i replied:
I’ve tired HelloFresh and it was nice. My friends and I have cycled through the majority of those mailing services during the trial promotions so we could get the best value.
Arzt92 replied:
Cooked is a meal delivery I’ve tried. Food is very good and comes fully prepared, just heat up in oven or microwave. Lots of different meals available https://eatcooked.us
HappyHiker1 replied:
Blue Apron actually posts their recipes each week so you can download them and buy the ingredients yourself. If you combine that with a grocery delivery/pick up service (available in lots of cities/densely populated suburbs) you can get the same benefits of a meal prep company, get the rest of your groceries delivered, and spend less money. Of course, Blue Apron meals are actually pretty time consuming. The recipes generally say they'll last 30-60 minutes but it almost always took me more time than predicted to prep and chop vegetables, etc.
H_is_for_Human replied:
I used blue apron for about a year during PGY-2 year. I enjoy cooking and wanted to get better at it, so I didn't mind the cooking and prep / cleanup is much easier which saves a lot of time. I stopped PGY-3 year because I found myself getting out of work on time more often and therefore had time to cook.

I used HelloFresh and HomeChef towards the end of 4 th year med school and continued using HelloFresh for my more busy weeks in residency. Personally I don’t think HomeChef is worth it since their recipes are pretty bland. I also wouldn’t be super into either of them if you’re vegetarian or have strict dietary requirements. I would suggest hunting around on groupon for deals on HelloFresh because it’s expensive without the deals. Having said that, I really like the variety of recipes HelloFresh has.

I would highly recommend The Cumin Club for indian food!
Nerdanese replied:
I don't know if it exists in America, but in India there are tiffin services where people make food and then deliver it and you pay a subscription to it. Maybe it's worth asking around if you have a Southeast Asian community nearby?
RagidyyMan replied:
I very much enjoy Hello Fresh
snugglepug87 replied:
Look for local places in your area also. There’s a DIY meal prep place near us where they put out all the ingredients and you build a bunch of trays yourself. Cheap and delicious.
nanosparticus replied:
Local is best if you can. Fresher and cheaper. I currently don’t have any good options, so I use FlexPro meals. They list their calories, have good sized meals under 400 kcal, and you can change your meals each week. Plus a discount if you subscribe for a certain number of weeks at a time. Cons are that they’re still expensive and they spam your texts and inbox.
ApRil1133 replied:
I've tried most of the meal kits and I think SunBasket is the best one from a variety and nutrition perspective. If you want to try it, you can use my discount link for $40 off: [https://sunbasket.com/invite/Meghan2733308](https://sunbasket.com/invite/Meghan2733308)
LoveMyLibrary replied:
I don't know whether this is a great, undiscovered potential option...or a really awful idea, but here goes... How about finding a local person who loves to cook and needs extra money? Maybe ask around at local churches (or other places of worship), or ask friends/coworkers if they know of someone? I wonder, for instance, if there may be retirees who would enjoy doing this. Just a thought...
xtoxicdogx replied:
Your best bet would be find a meal prep place that’s local to you and not one of the big mailing chains.
DanetyFlowers replied:
Home Chef for sure. Wife and I get two meals per week, saves so much time having to worry about what to get at the grocery / what to cook. We have a nice little binder compiled of our recipes as well.
halp-im-lost replied:
Thankfully I married someone who loves to cook, but before we were together I enjoyed HelloFresh
thisisd0g replied:
I just started using soylent or huel or any of the other powders meals. Their easy, cheap, and I'm probably eating healthier than I ever have been.
mhl12 replied:
[Freshly](https://www.freshly.com/) is what I've been using. It's freshly prepared meals that you just microwave. You do have to eat them within a week or freeze them or else they go bad. Depending on how much you order, comes out to be about $10 per meal. My only complaint is that there's not much variety -- mostly western cuisine. I skip 1-2 deliveries per month because I'd get bored of the food. If you're interested in trying it out, shoot me a PM and I can send you a referral for $20 off your first two weeks.
memphishamlin replied:
I've been through a lot of them. And basically they all just gave me some good ideas, but I didn't get around to making a good amount of them. Grocery pickup is the real time saver (I assume that's your main purpose). It's cheap (sometimes free). I don't have delivery where I'm at, and then you have to be home.
Silly_Bunny33 replied:
If you love cooking, I recommend meal-prep delivery services. It’s a fun way to get tasty, varied meals. Financially, it sits in-between the cheapest option of cooking everything yourself and the priciest option of eating out or buying pre-made meals. I used to get 3 different recipes per week, 4-meal portions so that I didn’t have to cook that often and still have leftovers for lunch/dinner the next day. I’ve mostly used Chef’s Plate (Canadian) and Hello Fresh (US).
molecularmimicry replied:
This may not be exactly what you're looking for but since you'll be reheating meals from the meal delivery services ANYWAYS, it's way cheaper to buy frozen dinners from Trader Joe's and Costco. The Indian food from TJ's is hearty enough to be eaten as a meal and are about $3-4/pop.
Toonsummoner replied:
It’s not worthwhile unless you have a local place where the price is only slightly more than the time you waste cooking for yourself tbh. All of the chain places are not worth the price
itsn0ti replied:
Where are you located? What about Eat Clean Bro?
SolvngResidntBurnout replied:
For what it’s worth I’m writing a book about resident burnout (not a shameless promotion) and because of that I have a growing email list of residents. I’ve spoken to companies that do meal delivery, house cleaning, etc and would provide special codes/discounts. Why? Because instead of one resident (or one department) essentially it a much larger group so companies are happy to get a huge signup. And residents are happy because they get a discount. So it’s a win win.
