Dr Millan doesn't take tricare either- who takes tricare? anyone know?
Frances C. replied:
Dr Gunderman is old school BUT in the way of putting a patient first. He has been amazing and even when we have chosen to not medicate he has offered other options/suggestions. He is up to date with he research and studies.
Frances C. replied:
Mandy Mitchell Williams - he has suggested things like behavior modifications, finding what motivates or interests the child and go from there - also watch sleep patterns. Things past this he suggests things based upon the child and family. I know it is hard to see him but it is worth it
Rhonda W. replied:
Not starting a debate. Just giving my opinion, Dr Millan is much better. And, yes, I have seen them both. Three boys, over 12 years. So happy Millan opened his new office. Maybe check them both out to see which is a better fit for you.

I have left a message with Dr. Millan to schedule an appointment. If anyone does start a group for ADHD please add me
Mandy W. replied:
Selina Davis Also, ask the doctors office if they can swab his/her mouth to test for MTHFR its methylation defect- this is what I have that causes my body to not break down B12- it very common especially in kids with ADHD- treating the MTHFR will help - Migraine or headache, brain fog or poor concentration, Depression, anxiety or irritability, Weakness or fatigue, Tender points or soreness (this is not just for people with ADHD). I read somewhere that having this can cause your body to use up all the magnesium it holds (but I can't find it again)
Mandy W. replied:
Magnesium (200 mg per day) -- Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include irritability, decreased attention span, and mental confusion. Some experts believe that children with ADHD may be showing the effects of mild magnesium deficiency. In one preliminary study of 75 magnesium-deficient children with ADHD, those who received magnesium supplements showed an improvement in behavior compared to those who did not receive the supplements. Too much magnesium can be dangerous and magnesium can interfere with certain medications, including antibiotics and blood pressure medications. Talk to your doctor. Mandy W. replied:
Vitamin B6 -- Adequate levels of vitamin B6 are needed for the body to make and use brain chemicals, including serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, the chemicals affected in children with ADHD. One preliminary study found that B6 pyridoxine was slightly more effective than Ritalin in improving behavior among hyperactive children. However, the study used a high dose of B6, which could cause nerve damage (although none occurred in the study). Other studies have shown that B6 has no effect on behavior. Because high doses can be dangerous, do not give your child B6, or take high doses yourself, without your doctor's supervision. Mandy W. replied:
I avoid this- because i have hypothyroid, but my daughter doesn't .. L-carnitine -- L-carnitine is formed from an amino acid and helps cells in the body produce energy. One study found that 54% of a group of boys with ADHD showed improvement in behavior when taking L-carnitine, but more research is needed to confirm any benefit. Because L-carnitine has not been studied for safety in children, talk to your doctor before giving a child L-carnitine. L-carnitine may make symptoms of hypothyroid worse, and may increase the risk of seizures in people who have had seizures before. It can also interact with some medications. Talk to your doctor. Dr Gunderman in Tampa. Very thorough, careful, and leaves no stone unturned to get your child the proper treatment they need.
Mandy W. replied:
magnesium helps with the figitiness and relaxes the body- but if you do the stay calm drink or magnesium by itself - note your body needs to get used to the increased dose because it will make you poo - after a week it will be safe to be more than a few minutes away from a potty- http://blog.naturalhealthyconcepts.com/2013/04/04/magnesium-deficiency-the-adhdautism-correlation-infographic/

We LOVE Dr. Millan in tampa. We have seen him for 12 years and he is up to date and listens. He has two boys of his own and has always made my guys laugh and feel comfortable. He has a heavy accent that can be hard to understand sometimes but other than great for us. He used to be partners with gunderman, but has moved to his own practice. The office is brand new and state of the art.

I don't have a good doctor, but I've been through the trials of finding the right medication. Feel free to PM me if I can help in any way. We used this stuff before my daughter started taking concerta http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/natural-vitality-kids-calm-multi-30-oz/n3-1015#.U2 zw-C-CDWQ - every person is different, but her side effects are its hard for her to fall asleep and she has dry mouth (swishing coconut oil helps) - I've taken vyvance and adderall - vyvance made me cranky and dry mouth. Our doctor just tested me for a b deficiency and I have it, my daughter is getting tested now- my body doesn't break down B12. I take broken down B12 to help- http://www.ultimate-vitamin-b12-guide.com/adhd-symptoms.html Best of luck and I hope you find someone who cares enough to take phone calls or emails (I have not)

Dr. Daniel Cabello, a member of our local medical advisory board, is fabulous and is located in Clearwater. Tell him you were recommended by Kelly of The Dysautonomia Project. He is not an expert in autonomic medicine but has learned much in the last year. He sees several patients with dysautonomia. His office phone is 727-443-3295.

We are working on a list of physicians that we can recommend with confidence. We hope to have that list available on our website in the fall. We are working with our friends at DINET.org to include our recommended list as a part of their updated worldwide physician list. If you have physicians you recommend please let us know.
