Elizabeth Giraldi McGlone-- Id love to ask for your Ped, Ive been going to Gerogetown in Chevy Chase for a long time, but they've switched to VRI, and pissing me off-- so I'd love your info about where you are going, and help you join the fight for better interpreters. Where is this ped place??:D

Jenny Nygaard their (Georgetown) new place on wisc ave has been using VRI as well and it's pissing me off too !!!
Sherri A. replied:
All I know It frustrates me! That the pediatric office dont request interpreters for me.. I have to call my kids' health insurance to get one.. Must be 5 days in advance.. DUMB . My husband and I like that place very much.. Health Insurance wont get interpreters at last minute.. They are good about writing back and forth - I know its hassle .. No choice .
Mike Y. replied:
give the doctor office http://www.nvrc.org/interpreting.../interpreting-agencies/and http://www.irs.gov/uac/Form-8826,-Disabled-Access-Credit-1
the Washington Physicians Directory http://www.wpdnetwork.com/Book.aspx has an appendix in back of book after the foreign language skills section of doctors and/or nurses who know sign language. who willing to provide interpreters. etc.i saw the 2014 edition sonewhere. should be copied and scanned.
Krista E. replied:
Maybe look into ped offices under Inova Health System? I know most offices are in VA but there may be a few in DC and/or MD. Inova provides interpreting services and in my past experiences, their interpreters were pretty decent. Brittany, I hope you find a good one soon!
Samantha S. replied:
why don't they look into access interpreting or cirs interpreting agency- most of them are certified. or look into rid.org. tell them that you want certified interpreter- not freelance one. sorry i wish i knew a good pediatrician in dc. only know a couple in maryland. good luck, brittany!
Kristin T. replied:
Not sure if it's close to you but we go to Bethesda Pediatrics & they are awesome. No problems w/ them at all.

ALL Pediatrics: I use Jon Farber for my oldest (11) and Tom Sullivan for my middle child (6). Both different styles but effective. Farber is a lil quirky but quick where Sullivan is a grandfatherly figure who is super patient and spends long time (thus at times you wait longer to see him) and follows up with calls if you feel you needed more time but didn't have enough. Awesome experience with both.

Dr. Farber is fabulous with special needs kids as a primary physician. We see Dr. Kozma at Georgetown for dev peds. She is an excellent doctor, and she is really on the ball and proactive, but her personality is a little abrasive. She's not the kind of doctor to coddle or hand hold, but she will develop an amazing plan of action

We saw Dr Kozma first but then Dr Pratt for a second opinion.

Jay McCarl is Great with the children. He has come to my classroom to visit my preschool students and is JUST WONDERFUL with the children and their office is on Ridge road.
Trisha L. replied:
We also went to Dr. Camps in Silver Spring, though I don't remember who saw. First visit was pretty routine - they just counted my daughter's teeth, showed her a few things and actually did a little cleaning (because she was doing well.) Everyone was friendly and it's a pediatric place so everything was geared towards kids.

I take my kids to Dr. Mindy Maggid on Shady Grove Road. It's 3 female doctors. A small practice but I like that better than a big practice. When I was looking for a ped I looked at reviews online...vitals.com...healthgrades and webmd had reviews. Then I looked at the doctors website to see policies and fees as well as office hours and flexibility. I know you have to have one before you leave hospital so you can always pick one try them and if you dont like you can find another. I had to get Ariels dr last min too since she was early.....I posted something on baby center message board and got a recommendation that I tried and liked. Good luck!
