ISO a great pediatric/adolescent gastroenterology doctor in the area. I am looking for a Dr. who knows how to manage "functional abdominal pain" in teens. Can anyone...
Shannon N. replied:
Dr. Michael Russo with Digestive Health in Plano and Dallas. My 11-yr old daughter has Crohns. PM me if you like.
Kelly D. replied:
I called on GE docs for years and for pediatric GI, I'd highly recommend Dr. JOHN Baker (mainly in plano, but used to travel to grapevine as.well). Also, dr. Annette Whitney or Kendall Brown over at Medical City Dallas. All are well worth your time and drive. PM me if questions.
Shanna S. replied:
2 nd Dr Baker

I respect your privacy, and hope that your child does not have IBS-C. MANY pediatric gastroenterologist like to prescribe Miralax. It has not been approved by the FDA for pediatric use. I get several emails a day with people asking for other remedies and also sharing the side effects from Miralax (seizures, ticks, ADHD symptoms, headaches, bed wetting, etc). Here is a link: http://www.gutsense.org/gutsense/the-role-of-miralax-laxative-in-autism-dementia-alzheimer.html
Carol W. replied:
I have not heard of this. I hope you find the right dr for your child. I do have one thought though... have abdominal migraines been rules out? I have 2 kids with severe migraine issues and with one of them it seemed to always start with the stomach when he was younger. Here is a link if you are interested.. Best of luck to your family. http://www.webmd.com/migraines-headaches/abdominal-migraines-children-adults
Alyson B. replied:
Dr Baker is good and offices out of Clinical Pediatrics office Grapevine a couple days a week.
Stacey C. replied:
I have a daughter with these "stomach migraines" too and have been thru every test and doctor possible. All have no explanation but it seems related to her stress levels. May want to add a psychologist to the treatment plan to help with coping skills to lessen stress. We used the Presbyterian Children's Hospital in Plano. They have GI specialists for kids there. Digestive Health Associates of Texas -Dr. Russo, Dr. Mona Dave. Good luck. I hope you find a cause and solution that helps your child. www.childrensgimd.com
Jim W. replied:
Thanks everyone. I've made an appt with Dr. Baker. As FYI, abdominal migraines were ruled out and it is not IBS or Chron's. If interested, see this link for an overview of "functional abdominal pain" http://www.giresearch.org/site/iffgd-research-awards/2009/functional-abdominal-pain
Jill D. replied:
Dr Russo is the best!
Barb G. replied:
I left Dr. Bakers office for Dr. Semrin at Children's in Plano . EDIT- my son was just found to have a severe kidney blockage and it was not abdominal migraines after all. Surgery is needed now. It took an adult gastro to recommend a test that found the real reason for his stomach pain and vomiting and nausea all these years.
Need a recommendation for a gastroenterologist for my son, digestive and reflux issues. Thanks!
Christina A. replied:
Dr. Barry Sanders in Lewisville!! GI / Billiary Specialist: Dr. Marcus Goldschmeidt in Plano. GI at Children's: Dr. Rodriquez and or Dr. Medina at Children's hospital in Dallas. Dr. Medina was our attending GI (new doc but was great) and Dr. Rodriquez is the head of the GI division at Children's. Best of luck to you and your son!!
Wanda M. replied:
Not Dr Goldschmeidt. Barry Sanders is a good choice...
Joe M. replied:
Dr. Cox at http://tddctx.com/locations/flower-mound
Christina A. replied:
I've heard a lot of wonderful things about Dr. Cox but I did not have a good experience with him.
Wanda M. replied:
Not sure what type of care you are looking for..But they are the Texas Colon and Rectal specialists at Grapevine Baylor. We were referred by 3 different individuals who gave them very high praise. We see a Dr there tomorrow,,but have been assured he is awesome!.But TDDC is who we have used for years,,Dr Mehta and Dr Steephen are very good,if it is just a digestive issue.
Ellen T. replied:
I recently took my daughter to Cooks Childrens and saw Dr. Danny Rafati. He was wonderful. As a matter of fact the whole appointment there was great from the valet parking to the check in to the lab... they should give all other hospitals/dr offices lessons on how to run things!
Shannon N. replied:
My daughter sees Dr. Michael Russo with https://www.facebook.com/153892761298363DHAT Digestive Health Associates. We think he's great! DHAT.com
Megan P. replied:
Agree with Dr. Russo. Treats your child like a child, not a number or a patient.
Need a recommendation for a Gastroenterologist that you love. Also, if you’ve had a bad experience with one, would like to know that too. There are too many to choose...

Christina A. replied:
I have had recurring idiopathic pancreatitis now for about 7 or 8 years now?? I've been in different hospitals, have seen numerous doctors and one of the very BEST, most dedicated doctors that I have seen is Dr. Barry Sanders in Lewisville. I found out about him while I was under the care of one of most popular GI doctors / GI doc offices in this area. I was hospitalized and Dr. Sanders was on call and after my first meeting, I told him that from now on, he was my doctor. (even though he tried to sway me as he didn't want to be seen as taking a patient...he said it was a doctor's code and they don't do that but I was persistent that it was I am sorry about their 'code' by it was my choice and I needed his medical perspective and help since I was given the run around since they couldn't figure it out.) He is straightforward, thorough, he NEVER ended a day while I was sick leaving me wondering what the test results were or what the plan was for the next day without either visiting me in person (regardless if he was on call or not) OR calling me personally while I was in the hospital OR at home. It was the first time ever that I had experienced having a doctor who was so dedicated to my care. I wish he covered every medical practice so that I'd only have to go to him. Love that man.
Is there a gastroenterologist in the area that is NOT affiliated with Texas Digestive Disease? I am trying to have my son seen before next Tuesday (leaves for college)...
LeeAnna S. replied:
I love Dr. Koya. https://medicalcitylewisville.secure.ehc.com/physicians/profile/Dr-Laxmi%20Deepika-Koya-MD
Kristin S. replied:
Dr. Barry Sanders is out of Medical City Lewisville and Baylor in Carrollton. He's quirky but I've been happy with him for years.
Can anyone provide a referral for a Gastroenterologist here in the Flower Mound area that is not in Dr. Holt's practice??
Jeanie R. replied:
Dr Barry Sanders is awesome.
Barb G. replied:
Dr. Timothy Ritter- Grapevine- been going to him for 20 years now
Christina A. replied:
I have recurring pancreatitis and have seen several GI docs in this area. I was not at all impressed with Dr. Anita Steephens, nor Dr. Cox. In fact, Dr. Cox was the doctor on call during one of my hospitalizations and I told him that I had better not his name on my hospital invoice. Although they've got a team of doctors there, I saw several and simply just wasn't happy with their services and bedside manner and I'm not a difficult person. I eventually came across Dr. Barry Sanders (Lewisville) and absolutely loved him!! I eventually 'outgrew' the doctors in this area and was in need of a Biliary Specialist and heard about Dr. Markus Goldschmeidt in Plano. The man is simply brilliant and has LOTS of great technology that he knows how to use well. I was told by several doctors that he IS the doctor that docs in this area refer people to when they eventually get stumped.
Anita S. replied:
Dr Jody Houston at TDDC saved my life!
Mary K. replied:
What was the issue with TDDC, I have seen Dr Ritter for over 15 yrs. Dr Holt is a great Dr & is over the GI dept at Flower Mound hospital. Dr Cox is the only one I would not use out of the group.
Vicki I. replied:
Dr Raymond Vallera. TDDC Irving. Love him!
Jackie S. replied:
I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done Friday by Dr Mehta. I had mine performed in Keller. Was very pleased.
Linda N. replied:
Unfortunately, the gastro that I recommend is Dr. David Spady with TX Digestive Center. I did have a bad experience with a doctor there, but Dr. Spady is awesome..... always is thorough and takes time to answer questions... He diagnosed my Celiac Disease when others missed it..
Karen M. replied:
Dr Anita Steephen at TDDC in flower mound is great. Just saw her last week and was really impressed. She was very kind and knowledgeable.
Lynne V. replied:
Dr Cox is great.
Gaby G. replied:
I'm with Jackie Davidson Shovel. Dr. Mehta is great
DamonandShannon G. replied:
Dr Levitan in grapevine is a really great dr.
Dana P. replied:
My husband really likes Dr. Steephan.
Carolyn L. replied:
I have seen Dr. Holt myself in the past and found his bedside manner to be fair at best. What I cannot tolerate is that I had made an appointment with him for my elderly mother. I took time off work to take her to this appointment and we were TEN minutes late because they moved their office. At that time their website did not indicate a change of address. They have you come in 15 minutes early to fill out paper work, which I had already done online, so we were not late for our actual appointment time. Because we were "late" the Dr. would not see my mom (we had an appointment at the end of the day). I have waited as long as 30 minutes to see that Dr. and he refused to see my mother. I will not spend my money on that sort of arrogance and inconsideration and am convinced I can be treated better elsewhere.
Carolyn A. replied:
I ended up with a perforated colon after a procedure with Dr. Barry Sanders many years ago. Ended up in the emergency room and another doctor had to diagnose the problem.
Rhonda F. replied:
Dr Cox and his team A++++ located behind Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Going for my 2 nd colonoscopy on Thursday.
Looking for a Gastroenterologist in the Flower Mound area ~ thanks
Barb S. replied:
Dr James Cox at TDDC - trust him with my life!
Lori N. replied:
Dr. Andrew Holt with Texas Digestive Disease Consultants in FM is an excellent GI doctor. Actually, all of the docs at TDDC are very skilled doctors. Dr. Holt found a very hidden carcinoid tumor in my husband's intestine last year during (what was supposed to be) a routine upper scope for swallowing issues. Dr. Holt was able to get us a referral to the very best surgeon in N. Tx. for that type of tumor. We can never thank him enough for all he did for us last year. He is not only very skilled in his field, he is also very humble and caring.
Looking for a pediatric gastroenterologist for a 2 year old. Recommendations? Thank you!

I was there today also and Dr Sanders is my dr too. Ditto everything you said!

I totally agree with the care at FM hospital. We were just in the ER for my son who had a severe allergic reaction. They started everything right away. They were kind, compassionate and thorough. they were very good to our son telling him in simple terms what was going to happen to him and how they were going to help him.

Jane R. replied:
We like both of ours, who practice under the umbrella "Texas Digestive Disease Consultants" - Dr. Mehta is mine and Dr. Lacey is my husbands. https://www.tddctx.com/index.html
Maria O. replied:
If you need surgery where would they operate? Do you know?Jane Harris Recchia
Jane R. replied:
Dr Lacey worked from the Baylor Grapevine surgical center, which impressed us with their efficiency, compassion and caring staff. Lasttime i saw Dr. Mehta, i chose the procedure day according to my work schedule, which put us in north fort worth. If i remember correctly, he schedules different places on different days of the week. If you have a preferred place (or your insurance does) i would just give them a call. They're so helpful. Best wishes for a successful experience and let me know if you have any other questions.
