Read this site thoroughly and be your own advocate. You can order your own testing, including saliva testing and if needed, supplements or medication online. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/
Donna D. replied:
I'm in the same position. Diagnosed with hypothyroidism by my PCP and put on Levothyroxin. I also had an ultrasound showing that my thyroid is small. After several months of still feeling terrible, I made an appointment with Dr. Baysham. I felt that he was very rude and unconcerned. He wants to go by the same blood work my PCP used and nothing else. He did switch me to a natural hormone at my request, but thats it. Would love to see a doctor who really cares for their patients and listens to them.
Renee M. replied:
I don't recommend Dr Baysham at all...I have pcos and all he wanted to do for me was either give me a prescription that makes me extremely sick or gastric bypass! My obgyn went to his partner Dr Kowlak and said he was an a**hole. I now see Dr Usha Sharma she is in monroeville now at PINE, she actually sits and talks to you like your a human. (I also have hypothyroidism)
Mandi H. replied:
I saw Dr Kowalyk for nodules on my thyroid a couple of months ago. I had the right side removed 6 yrs ago because of a golf ball sized tumor. This time there are 2 lumps. Although all my bloodwork has been borderline for hypothyroidism and the biopsies came back negative or inconclusive, he didn't give me much of an answer. I read an article about all kinds of little known symptoms of hypothyroidism & decided to just go ahead and have the rest of my thyroid removed. Surgery is tomorrow!
Laura C. replied:
Leena Matthews at Forbes Regional Hospital.... I WOULD NEVER recommend Kowalyk to anyone even my worst enemy
Jennifer S. replied:
I worked in Endo for a year. What is your TSH? Do u know your free T4? Have you had antithyroid antibodies checked? I worked for Dr. Moturi.
Jennifer S. replied:
Dr. Moturi is very good, very thorough. But she's busy. She has NP's tho- see Patty or Jenny. You can get appts with them sooner. Patty has been with them a long time, she is sharp as a tack, and knows her stuff!!! She's worked for them at least 10 years.
Karin H. replied:
Dr. Noah Lubowski (Premier Medical Associates) in Monroeville and Penn Hills has a fabulous bedside manner. He called me personally with test results even though they were normal.
Trisha A. replied:
I've been through at least 4 over the years and now see Dr Matori out of AGH. She is in Pgh but it's worth it. Have you had blood work?
Tricia R. replied:
My PCP is Dr Chirigas out by MT Veiw, they send me to Dr Bashyam in Greensbutg right by the hospital. Between both doctors my thyroid has been under control! Most recently I went to each doctor and told them I haven't been feeling myself, Dr Bashyam changed my thyroid medicine just after seeing him, my blood test results were normal from being in the thyroid medicine I have been on, so I know that he listens and cares!
Alyssa Z. replied:
So majority seems that Dr. Kowalyk is liked by most of you! Hm, maybe he'll be the one

I have Graves. Recently switched to Dr. Tal in Monongahela after hearing many praises. He just helped me through my pregnancy with no issues and really seems to know his stuff. I've seen so many Endo's...he is the best so far.
Donna S. replied:
I saw Dr. Murry Gordon, Agh, but I hear he is not taking new patients. He is a great Endo, I had Graves, but after about 20 yrs have developed a goiter. Will be having surgery next week to possibly removing the thyroid.
Janice B. replied:
I recommend Dr Murray Gordon. . Allegheny Hospital.
Jennifer S. replied:
Dr. Gordon is a brilliant physician. It is standing room only on clinic days. People wait in the halls. He works very closely with dr moturi, patty mareda, and their other NP- I think named Jenny also. Even if u can't get him, trust me, patty knows her stuff. And he's right there if there are any concerns.
Sarah J. replied:
Dr. Mary Korytkowski in Pittsburgh is wonderful! My mom has been going to her for over 15 years.

Christine A. replied:
Dr. Rose Salata at UPMC Oakland. Worth the drive! Be prepared to speak with her for at least 30 minutes. She talks soft and she isn't rushed but she also schedules well because I've never waited long at her office. She's very very thorough. I'm an RN so I'm pretty picky with my doctors. She is awesome!
Thomas J. replied:
Kowalyk and Basham are both terrible. Always dumped onto the PA. Would call the results and not hear back for over a week.
