Affordable veterinarian surgeon recommendations? About a month ago, [I posted that...

The people at New Hope Animal Hospital stiched up my cat's spleen and flank after a dog bite for only $240. I thought that was quite cheap considering it required general anesthesia and all. I don't know if they handle orthopedics but you should give them a call.

We used Carefirst too, but couldn't afford them for a procedure on one of our dogs. Believe it or not, one of the vet techs recommended that we go to Smithfield Rd Vet in Knightdale. We have been going there ever since.

My dog went through cancer treatments earlier this year at the Veterinary Specialist of the Carolinas in Cary. They are fantastic. I am not sure about surgical costs but they did tell me that they as well as NC State have sponsorship programs if you are unable to afford large procedures. There are also some vets/schools/groups that offer a sort of scholarship. Care Credit also helped me with a large portion of my vet bills. I hope this helps and she gets better!

Crossroads Vet - they brought a surgeon in to perform ACL surgery on both knees of our 100 lb great dane mix for ~$1800.
Irythros replied:
Have you tried NC State? One of my moms dogs had to get surgery on both front knees and it was between 1.5 and 2.5 for both.

Most rural vets are going to be less expensive, so I would call vets in places like Benson, Knightdale, Zebulon, Garner etc to see if there are cheaper options.

See Dr. John at magnolia animal clinic on capital. He made it possible for us to have our dog treated for a condition we believed was too expensive to manage. Be up front about your financial concerns. He is a good guy.

Try Preston Animal Hospital in Morrisville.

Magnolia is open today.

https://www.knightdalevet.com I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The vet owns the place himself and charges 1/3 of other places, nicest guy. It's a drive but for big stuff like surgery or teeth cleaning well worth it.

Donated and put on Facebook. I've been to Magnolia and they're good. My vet is Brentwood Animal Hospital, I highly recommend checking them out.
Can anyone recommend a good Orthopedic Knee Surgeon in Columbia or Lexington?
Would be great if you know whether they take Military Trina Care Prime or not??

the combination of organic whole oats added with the barn bag ration balancer (about $65 for an 11 lb bag lasts 1 horse 2 months) put good weight on mine. In my quest for wellness the life data labs nutritionist himself helped me understand balancing the right amount of forage, vitamins, minerals, amino & fatty acids was the key to good health so I gave his advice a shot and 7 months later I'm really glad I did. They have an interesting read on grain, oats, here's the link http://www.lifedatalabs.com/bb-back-to-basics

Roof and Riddle also......Not a horrible haul.

Rood and Riddle and Hagyard both have amazing teams of surgeons and medical staff, as well as top notch facilities. I would try and get a consult there and see what they say, they are probably your best bet, and not too far from Michigan. University of Tennessee also has an excellent sports medicine department with some vets that have dealt with a lot of severe osteomyelitis.

If he's been intermittently lame I would definitely consider having it removed. He might not change as far as on and off lame for the rest of his life without surgery but that could become dislodged and cause more problems. Not worth a risk in my opinion. Chip removal surgery can be done non-invasively and it's a pretty standard procedure. Most of the time there is a very optimistic outcome after surgery. Layup time depends on the individual themselves however generally it's two weeks of stall rest followed by 2 to 6 weeks of hand-walking which is Then followed by turn out. I have a gelding that had a chip removed out of his knee, had two weeks of turn out 4 weeks of hand walking and was then cleared to go back into 30 days of light work and if he stayed sound cleared to go back into full race training. He didn't go back into race training but has been restarted off the track. Either way, he's been sound since and it's not caused the problem.

Sending positive thoughts your way...My equine partner had two fractured legs from kicks in a pasture and then developed bone infections. One healed with antibiotics and the other had to have surgery to remove the infection. His splint bone was in two pieces and we were looking at another and perhaps two more surgeries in the future--one to anchor his splint bone with a screw of sorts and another to remove the piece if it dislodged. I decided, after the healing of the surgery to take him to Ralph Young for laser treatment of the site, with no promises. It was my call entirely. I have the before and after x-rays. His splint bone grew back together as was shown after the laser treatment and he needed no more surgeries and was sound to start light riding in a little over a month after the surgery. I am not a professional land this is my non-technical summary of the events, but if I f I were in your shoes, I would look into laser treatment. It was, I believe $30 per treatment and the course of treatment was over two weeks but I also boarded him there. I understand that Lisa Lockhart took Louie to Ralph and she could probably go anywhere for anything. I am not a barrel racer and know next to nothing about the sport but those ladies do know how to take care of their horses, in my opinion.
