I need your help. Need recommendations for a great OBGYN. To make a long one short. Feeling unattended to, only overoad my Zofran px from 4 to 8 pills. Can never speak...
Mona J. replied:
I love my desi dr. http://www.wellness.com/dir/2471870/obgyn/va/richmond/sucharitha-vigneshwar-sucharitha-vigneshwarmd-md
Jen S. replied:
Dr. Christine Isaacs at MCV. Or the midwifery practice at MCV or St. Francis. I am a birth doula, and they take loving, gentle, honoring care of the women they serve-- unlike most any docs in the city. Plus you have the benefit of the doctors that back them up being right there if you need them.
Wendy B. replied:
Dr Moore James river obgyn
Heather D. replied:
I add another vote for Dr. Stephen Bendheim. Been with him since I moved here 9 years ago and he's been my favorite OBGYN during my many moves. He listens and had handled complicated pregnancies well! I believe he's in the same practice as Dr. Royal, so it would be pretty easy to swutch over.
Shaina M. replied:
Okay, I will try to keep this short. Dr. Royal basically forced me into a c section and other things I did not want... in which my heart stopped after the operation. She tried to tell me I "passed out" even though I coded and they had to use a defibrillator Oh, and THERE IS NO RECORD OF THIS IN MY FILE! I promptly switched OBGYN's after that horrific experience, yeah she was nice and all but really wanted to rush me through and just do a c section which almost killed me then it was never reported I assume to cover their asses. I went through a couple of OBGYN's who were neither good nor bad, until I found Dr. Bendheim. Love him to pieces, he is very attentive and listens to you and if you tell him you want to do your birth a certain way, then he respects your wishes. Dr. Santosh delivered one of my children and I had no problems. I moved recently so I had to find a new OBGYN and went to Dr. Hicks. She is so busy she has no time for you and not only that, I told her how I felt while on Mirena (another nightmare story I will spare you the details) and she told me it was impossible, it was all in my head, she chastised me for not going to an OBGYN for not having my period for 2 years and told me I probably have cancer now (not kidding) she also tried to force me on birth control and I told her No because of the bad experiences I have had physically and emotionally but she kept on and on, it was the worst experience I've ever had, she does not listen and is a know it all. So after coming to my friends on facebook for recommendations, I found Dr. Moore at Chippenham who is an absolute saint. I love him just as much if not more than Dr. Bendheim. He spent over an hour just talking to me about all of my experiences and kept it real with me. You can not go wrong with either of them, good luck!
Dr. Jone's office at st. Marys was amazing. I used Dr. Sura Edmond but she's moved away. But the nurses were angels and I'd reccomend that practice because of them.

Jodi C. replied:
Dr. Wiles at Richmond OB-GYN. They have an office at both St. Francis and Johnston Willis. He primarily see's patients at St. Francis though. I've been seeing him since I was 15, so half my life, both my mother and sister see him, and he delivered both my daughter and my niece. His nurses are great and I've never had a problem ever getting through when I need to. Also, his wife helps teach their parenting/pregnancy classes for first time parents.

Erika Blanton at Henrico Doctors was the 1 st female OBGYN to practice in Richmond (if not VA). She was also named #1 in Style Weekly recently. I trust her & her staff to deliver a baby over the phone, blindfolded. JK but she is the best, & delivering her 3 rd generation.

Dr.Stephen Bendheim is at both of those hospitals. I had HORRIBLE morning sickness my entire pregnancy and was on Zofran until the day I gave birth. I highly recommend him! Feel better!
Lisa A. replied:
I have seen all the Doctors at West End Ob but my favorite is Dr Mahoney. My last pregnancy was a difficult and high risk and she was awesome. She even called and checked on me in between appts. I have been going there since I got pregnant with my twins and they are 18 now
Jamie B. replied:
I see Dr. Hirata at St.Mary's (and her NP Conner) - both are excellent. They take their time during appointments, so I never feel rushed, and they listen to me and address any questions or concerns. They make me feel comfortable, too. Dr. Hirata sometimes runs late (due to her spending lots of time with patients), but NP Conner was usually on time (I'd recommend getting the earliest appointments in the day to see Dr. Hirata). I was very happy with having Dr. Hirata as my OB during my 2 deliveries and cannot recommend her enough.

Theresa J. replied:
Dr Murray at Westend OBGYN, she is awesome and delivered 3 of my children!!! Seriously, awesome!
Tara M. replied:
I was with Dr. Royal until I got pregnant. I called at 6 weeks pregnant with a horrible stomach virus with my first child. She just called in Phenergan suppositories and wouldn't see me. My neighbor at the time told me to call Commonwealth OB/GYN, which was the practice she was with for all three of her children. She had severe hyperemesis gravidarum. I saw Dr. Karen Knapp and never looked back. I loved that she is no nonsense, but so caring. I felt safe with her and she knows her stuff. Good luck with your decision!
Needs a family practice or OB/GYN recommendation. I absolutely hate going to the doctor. Haven't been since my post-partum checkup & surgery... But it is time... I have...
I LOVE my OBGYN! He is a wonderful and caring doctor... I've never had a doctor I trusted more. He is amazing -- Dr. Mark Hyde, at Virginia Physicians for Women. It's a large practice, so I assume they would be able to work out a payment plan. I can't say enough about him.

This may be a stupid question... But... Do they do normal well checkups & ob visits? I have only been in VA for a year & have never had any kind of medical treatment here. My daughter goes to her pediatrician regularly, but other than that I have no experience with VA health care...
Molly H. replied:
I have a midwife at Complete Care for Women. But there is an OBGYN as well as a family practice doctor there as well. They are located in the medical offices next to Chippenham Hospital. I think they have payment plans--I know they do for the birth center that I'm using.
