Depends on what kind of surgeon you need. We have worked with Dr. Jennifer Rhodes who is a pediatric plastic surgeon and a craniofacial surgeon. She is excellent. She is mainly at MCV but has an office at St. Mary's (or used to anyway). St. Mary's phone # is 282-9576. MCV # is 828-3045. Her nurse's name is Ruth Trivelpiece-also an angel on this earth! Cannot recommend them highly enough.

Dr. Shaw at Stony Point Surgery Center is outstanding. He specializes in ENT, facial and plastic surgery, and may be able to help or refer to someone. Dr Rosner is known to help patients who go through failed/botched decompressions with other NS's.

Dr. Rosner is in North Carolina and is considered a chiari specialist.

I am friends with Dr. Mankin on Facebook and have spoken with him about my daughter. I want to take my daughter to see him, however all of her local (Kansas-Missouri) surgeons say it cannot be connected and if I take her out of state for treatment they will not continue to see her as a patient. I am trying to find the money for the travel expenses of continually taking her out of state. I live in Kansas and there are no true chiari specialist even in the surrounding states. Aimee Zemanek

[OrthoVirginia](https://www.orthovirginia.com/) has offices in Fairfax and Fairoaks. I tore the labrum in my right shoulder and they repaired and then I did Pt with them. They were fantastic. I have full range of motion back and full strength back in my right shoulder. I just recently partially tore my left rotater cuff and go back on the 29 th for a follow up and possible MRI to see how bad and if surgery is needed. PT will follow of course.

I'm a PT in Alexandria. Most Outpatient orthopedic clinics have experience with this. You can look on a clinic's website to see the work history of a physical therapist. If he/she has been working for a few years, they've likely treated a labral tear. Ask your MD for a protocol to give to the physical therapist if he has any restrictions in terms of your hip motion. I've heard Town Center Orthopedics in Centervile and Reston are good. I've never worked there though.

How was the procedure? I need to get my hip done in about a month from now. Was it just the labrum that they repaired, or did they do additional work as well? And where did you have it done at?

Unfortunately, very familiar. My oldest son, Chris had brain surgery to remove a cavernous angioma. Dr. John Ward operated on him. He is in with Dr. Young and all the best docs. Can't go wrong with that group.

Dr. Ben Carson at Johns Hopkins Hospital. You can have a consultation with him and he will recommend a doctor. I would value his opinion above anyone's. I sent a dear friend to him years ago for a 2 nd opinion.

Dr. Sahni did my Dad's surgery last year and Dr. Boyce handles his Parkinson's treatment. Both are excellent.

Dr. Young did Chris's back surgery but he's super hard to get into.

Claude Wilson is who I see and I love him- he has a great reputation

My husband recommends Peter Alexander also.

Dr. Young did my brother-in-law's back surgery. He is awesome, but very hard to get in to see.

Janet Strauss recently had cataracts removed

Dr. Andrew Michael did Janet's and Dr Knapp at VA Eye did mine. Both are good. I think that overall costs were lower at VA Eye. Check out total expenses related to the surgery and follow ups, they can vary.

I know you wanted to stay in the City, but I go to Dr. Suzanne Everhart in Ashland, and she is excellent. She is a surgeon and does quite a few cataract operations every week.

This Dr. Shulman has impressive credentials, even worked.at.Walter Reed.

Dr. Shulman was who my neurologist refered me to. I left her office crying and scared as hell. She had absolutely no bedside manner and wouldn't explain anything to me or my parents. We had sent in my images before the appointment and she didn't even look at them until we were there in the room. As soon as she pulled up my image she was like, "I do basic decompressions and your case is complex so I wouldn't be the one to do it." I appreciate that she didn't agree to something she couldn't do, but when I tried to ask questions about what was complex and what my next step should be, she said that she couldn't answer questions about a case she wouldn't be working with. Long story short, I'm 5 weeks post-op with Dr. Trumble in Orlando.

That's why I'm truly happy with Dr Greenfield. He is familiar with all of the sister conditions that go along with it

Not to start a riot but I wonder is that happened with Dr B. From what I understood he was a good one and then became more lax and prideful putting people in jeopardy like a friend of my friends had to deal with...

20 years as Medic and I grilled every doctor I saw, including the one you are scheduled with Laura Dodge. The one you are with gave me the exact same answer as Dr Bolognese, dismissed my symptoms as post concussive syndrome, which absolutely does not explain my deterioration. I ended up using Dr Rosner and went from using a mobility scooter, being literally bed ridden to driving, walking and becoming functional again. So your doctor who told me he does 2 Chiari surgeries a year versus my specialist who does one surgery a week at the moment ( because OR time is not available to book more) and he only performs one surgery a day because he said he will not go into an afternoon surgery tired ( which I absolutely respect and love) made me the #1 priority on my surgery day. Sorry but I refuse to be 2nd or 3rd priority when it came to my brain surgery nor did I want to be a novice doctors' practice' patient.

Dr. Seiff in Las Vegas.. About 4-5 hour drive, but its worth a consultation. He is recommend by Dr. Oro and did my decompression

Dr Rosner also recommended Dr Seiff when I asked about doctors in Las Vegas since I had considered staying there with friends after my decompression last year.

I went to Neurology Consultants of Tidewater when I was living there but they too seemed to think my herniation was no big deal. Before I left the area I was told that the best option would be going to VCU because they had a chiari specialist.

I emailed Jordan. Dr. Greenfield recommended I see Dr. Fraser for the bolt test, possible shunt and possible stent. Once I know more then we can find out if I need to make the trip to Dr. Greenfield.

Dr. Kim did my decompression in May 2015. He didn't do any test except make me try to walk a straight line. Then he saw me 3 months after my surgery and that was it. Told me any other issues I have aren't chiari related. He basically put a hole in my head then wiped his hands clean of me....I wouldn't recommend him to anyone for chiari.
