Does anybody know a good eye doctor in DC? Oh, and also a dentist. And possibly just a normal doctor. Apparently these are things I'm supposed to have...?

In the market for a new eye doctor. Who do you love? Doctors without a good bedside manner need not apply.

Looking for an affordable eye doctor for exam and glasses. Don't have vision insurance. Thought about Target optical... any recommendations?
Kim B. replied:
Dr. Miller at Lenscrafters (Northlake Mall) does a thorough exam. He doesn't rush.
Laura W. replied:
Which Harris Teeter?
Helen S. replied:
Point of information: The Opthamalogist exams ur eyes, the Optometrist makes ur lenses. Therefore, u may incur two bills.
Nadine P. replied:
If no medical problems see an optometrist you will get a better refraction due to that is what they do all day then you can take your prescription any where to fill. America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses has good deals but glasses take two weeks to come in
I go to the Eye Care place on Country Club Rd. Dr and staff ate good, but glasses are expensive, and I have insurance. I recently went to BJ'S with my prescription, I'm a BJ'S member, they were having a 60% off sale, sorry but I think it ended, anyways got frames, transition lens and no line bifocal for $300, would have been over $700. STILL WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY GLASSES ARE SO FLIPPIN EXPENSIVE. Best of luck to you.
Shirley P. replied:
I go to the Eye Care place on Country Club Rd too. Last year when I told them no insurance & I'd be paying cash I got a 25% discount:)

DC peeps, can anyone recommend a good eye doctor? Preferably easy on the eyes. Ha ha, get it? Easy on the........nevermind. It's time to get these baby blues checked...
Greg F. replied:
Hey Jay--I'm always happy to see friends as patients. I trained as an optometrist then did a year's medical residency afterwards. For the first 10 years of my career I worked in a hospital environment basically functioning as a nonsurgical ophthalmologist. I lectured and was well published. I got a little burnt out then moved to DC to have my own small family style practice. I don't care who you decide to see as long as you take care those "peepers". If you have any specific questions or concerns feel free to email me. Here's my bio-http://www.eyecentral.net/about-us/meet-our-doctors.html

I have a pretty high prescription and my eyes are pretty significantly different. Will the regular 1.57 lenses work for me or do I need to order a thinner lighter weight...
Charity R. replied:
I would go with thinner lenses at least the 1.57. I can't imagine it would be heavier. From what I have read you "can" get better optics with a thinner lens. I wouldn't get the really expensive ones. If you wanted to get the hi index which are about $20 that is still really cheap. I don't think a couple of mm would be of much notice. Here is a calculator for edge and middle thickness. Sometimes it's only half a mm difference but you feel it in the wallet paying all that money!! So try it out. Find a frame get all the numbers and plug it in with your prescription http://www.justeyewear.com/thickness-calculator/
