My boots are talking (sole is separating) but I am not ready to give them up. Does anyone know of a good shoe repair in the DMV?

I don't know the name of the place, it's just been "the cleaners" my whole life. It's on the strip of stores across from the Uptown on Connecticut Ave (Cleveland Park). I want to say second or third from the end in the direction of the zoo.

My roommate used to use the place on the corner of Mt. Pleasant & Lamont (not sure what the name is) and said positive things. I think this is the place: http://www.yelp.com/biz/leons-shoe-repair-washington - yelp reviews aren't that great though, so who knows. I do know my roommate said the shop was open on an erratic schedule and did not always get things back by the time stated when they were dropped off...

it's a bit out of the way from 'nw dc' but these guys are serious, old school shoe guys. http://www.fortunas.com/ bethesda md, a few blocks from the bethesda metro, just off wisconsin ave had two pairs of shoes worked on there and very happy both times.

I forget the name but my mom has used this place at 7 th and Pennsylvania SE numerous times. It's in the "market place" building a couple doors down from the CVS.

I did not have a good experience with American Valet. I came in a day after the work was supposed to be done, and it wasn't complete. The store owner was pissed (unclear if at me or someone else), swore under his breath, and just sort of threw the work together while I was standing there. Sub-par work on a very expensive pair of shoes. I ended up trimming the sole protector myself at home. It was cheap, I guess.

[Expert Shoe & Luggage Repair](http://www.expertshoeandluggagerepair.com) is better than Yelp indicates. It is true that they are a bunch of gruff, salty old men who seem to deliberately reject modern concepts like 'niceness'. I was once upbraided at length by one of their guys for the way I'd treated a pair of Allan Edmonds -- scuffs, winestains and a nasty cut in the toe. It seemed much more important to him that I understand how nice my shoes were and how badly I'd screwed them up than to show the slightest respect for me as a customer. However... they really know what they are doing, and they don't charge too much. Those shoes came back looking like new. If you can deal with their crusty ways you can get good work done there.
Dancing on the streets in downtown Vancouver created two huge holes on the soles where I spin. So I'm taking them into an old Italian shoe repair shop, the same cobbler...
