I'm searching for a good orthopedic surgeon. Any recommendations would be appreciated please.
Atwood M. replied:
Dr Brushert... John Hopkins. He's one of the best in the country
Susan K. replied:
I second that Stephen. As well as Dr. Schneider at Montgomery Orthopedics.
Derrick E. replied:
Thank you all for your kind recommendations! I went with Montgomery Orthopedics primarily because they had the earliest opening. They booked me with Dr. Hinkes. It's just a severely bruised knee, so It shouldn't be too difficult.
Susan K. replied:
Dr. Hinkes is great too. He is one of the original doctors who founded the practice. Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Linda B. replied:
I broke my knee cap and my wrist (different times) and used Dr. Stephen Webber out of Capitol Orthopedics in Lanham (next to Dr's Hospital) both times. I think he's fantastic. He's warm, asks lots of questions, takes his time talking to you and does beautiful work. My sister broke her wrist just last month and she went to him also and was very pleased. That in itself was a miracle as nothing ever satisfies her...lol He has offices in Lanham, Clinton, and Bowie.
Bill S. replied:
Dr. Ira Gelb at Potomac Valley Orthopedic in Columbia. Affiliated with Howard General/Johns Hopkins. He performed a total shoulder replacement for me two years ago. Amazing outcome! Would recommend him or his practice to anyone. Great rehab facility has well
Susan K. replied:
Montgomery Orthopedics is wonderful. A bit of a drive but the care and level of service will be worth it http://montgomeryorthopaedics.com/
Catherine C. replied:
A group in Bowie/Annapolis. Orthopedic Sports Medicine Center. Might have the 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd best doctors. I have seen Dr Bambrah and surgeon Dr Speciale. They are the best because the fixed my issues but some of the other doctors in the group are the 2 nd and 3 rd best.
Alison G. replied:
Through some pretty awful results from slipping on ice last year, I found it's worth it to go to a specialized orthopedic surgeon who focuses on one part of the body. Setting a fractured arm is a very different process from hip replacement or a foot's stress fracture. I can't recommend The Orthopaedic Center enough. I have visited their Rockville and DC locations, had physical therapy through them, have coworkers who have used different doctors in the practice from me, and nothing but rave reviews. Worth the drive, especially after the subpar ortho care I received nearby before switching practices http://www.theorthocentermd.com/
Stephanie P. replied:
Dr.Theodore T. Manson is a excellent orthopedic surgeon. I had 2 total knee replacements with him, he practices out of University of Maryland Medical Center/ Shock Trauma. He also does surgery at St . Joseph Medical Center in Towson md.
Bob R. replied:
Anne Arundel Orthopedic Associates and James York, M.D. In particular. Closest of many offices is Odenton. Number is (410) 268-8862. He is outstanding and has over 25 years of experience. Also a leader of the state Orthopedics Association.
Flory L. replied:
Highly recommend Dr. Christopher Magee in Silver Spring if you need knee or hip surgery. He performed surgery on both my knees for different reasons. I also agree that you should find a doctor that specializes in the part of the body you need help with.
Stephen B. replied:
Dr Peerless at Montgomery Ortho is the best doc ever

Need recommendations for an orthopedic specialist in the area. (z)
Jean M. replied:
stay out of the area is my advice. go to annapolis. Orthopedic and Sports Medicine. They have orthopedics that specialize in every body part. Not sure what you are looking for but they can help you. 410-268-8862 Totally worth the drive to avoid the general orthopedics that I have found in calvert.
Sandy R. replied:
Dr Roy Bands! Orthopedic and spine. In sajak pavilion across from Anne Arundel. Medical center.
Brenda L. replied:
Dr. Cirillo fixed both of my rotator cuff tears. Loved him! Family has used and loves Dr. Patel for knee issues. They're both in Calvert. For back and neck, go to Dr. Amiel Bethel at BWMC in Glen Burnie. He's the BEST! For Pain Management, Dr. Brian Kahan, Sajak Bldg. AAMC.
Lisa B. replied:
Orthopedic and Sports Medicine in Annapolis. Great group of doctors. They also have an office in Bowie.
Su O. replied:
Also recommend Excel Physical therapy near Dunkirk Safeway & Dunkirk Burger King. They focus on getting you better not just continual visits. Their office manager is great at making apptmt times that work for you.
Bonnie H. replied:
Dr Griffith is also good for back if you want to stay in Calvert.
Bonnie H. replied:
Dr Holt in Annapolis. The best ankle specialist!!!
Alicia S. replied:
MD Brain and Spine in Annapolis Dr. Dix
Anita S. replied:
Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Surgeons. Totally worth the extra drive.
Jenn L. replied:
Dr. Herron or Dr Ozuzu they are in the same office!!
Kay H. replied:
I absolutely agree with everyone else regarding going to Annapolis. The Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centerhttp://osmc.net/ has physicians who specialize in certain areas (click on Services & Specialties) i.e. spine, hip & knee, foot & ankle, etc. My husband just had rotator cuff surgery for a complete tear only 6 weeks ago and the physical therapists can not believe how well he is doing. Personally, I want a doctor who only operates on a specific area, all the time, not once in a while. Great staff and great doctors. Highly recommend!
Su O. replied:
Very very happy with Dr Cirillo or Dr Patel at calvert orthopaedic and sports medicine - entire family has been for different injuries.
Gayle W. replied:
I've also had a very positive experience with the Annapolis Orthopedic and Sports Medicine practice. Took my daughter to see Dr. Cashman who is the ankle specialist there. He was great!
Lynn B. replied:
Jean....all my doctors are in Annapolis. Can't say much for most of the Calvert County doctors. And don't ever visit Calvert Memorial Hospital....The WORST
Any recommendations for an orthopedic doc for knee issues in the Annapolis/Arnold area? Looking for one who accepts United healthcare...
Deborah L. replied:
Daniel Redziniak at Orthopaedic and Sports Ctr 410-267-5576. He "gets" runners. Won't tell you to stop running cuz he knows you wouldn't listen-- not sure about the insurance.
Kim H. replied:
David- Dr. Paul King. He's a marathoner himself. Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Annapolis. 410-674-1641. I had Total Knee Replacement last year & doing other knee in a month
Hope P. replied:
Lou Ruland!
Susan L. replied:
Kim Bassford Halsey Dr King did total knee replacement on my hubby last year (agree he's great!). I thought he said no running or jumping. Did we misunderstand? Just curious - does he know you're still running?
Gail M. replied:
Dr. Ove is really great...I had meniscus surgery and was back in the gym in 12 days.
Steve C. replied:
I've been to Dr. Ove many times for many issues. He's great.
Erica B. replied:
I second Daniel Redziniak. He is fab and has kept me running with my RA. He also did a great job with my husbands rotator cuff and bicep tear (both were completely torn).
Kimann S. replied:
I do not recommend Dr Verklin at the orthopedics and sports medicine. He told me I was too old to run and hasn't offered any other treatments. He wants me to get a MRI and my insurance denied it. So he is doing nothing.
Theresa S. replied:
https://osmc.net/directory/people/show/benjamin-petre he took care of my torn bicep last year the week before the Emily Schindler tri and I won third for my age. He did my friend's hip surgery and neighbor's ankle (or something like that) surgery. He is amazing!
Emily C. replied:
Yes I would agree with both Dr. Redz or Dr. Petre
Leslie A. replied:
I went to Dr. Lou Ruland for my stress fracture. He was great. There are two Dr. Ruland's at the practice so you have to request Dr. Lou.
Dr Palmer west st. Fixed me up in no time. After 3 years if suffering and not knowing what I had. Boot for 3 weeks and good insert. Done. Not one bit of trouble for years

Can anyone recommend an orthopedic doctor specializing in shoulders? Thanks.
Julie B. replied:
I go to a FANTASTIC osteopath (DO), who did wonders with my shoulder. Dr. Christine Mitchell, in Marriottsville, MD. It was a hike, but worth it.
Melissa M. replied:
Dr. Terrence O'Donovan in Glen Burnie on Hospital Drive. Did my rotator cuff repair. He's fantastic. I've also heard good things about Dr. Lashgari.
Dexter F. replied:
Dr Lashgari did wonders for my wife, my mother and another close friend. Very compassionate. all three of them had multiple breaks ranging from upper arm up to the including the shoulder ball and socket.
Lynne H. replied:
Dr. Stephen Brown in Arnold repaired both my husbands and my shoulders with great success. He also has the BEST bedside manner of any doctor I've ever had. He is a busy doctor and I've had to wait at appointments, but no worse than other specialists. Dr. brown takes as much time as is needed to exam you. I don't feel like a number in a sweat shop (this was my experience with Dr. Ruland). I highly recommend him.
Mae J. replied:
Dr. Ove at Orthopedic Sports Medicine--the best!
Melissa M. replied:
I think Dr. Bands just specializes in spine care.
Karen A. replied:
Dr. Lashgari definitely.
Kirsten D. replied:
Dr Lashgari here too - fantastic!
Doug E. replied:
Dr. Thomas Dennis in Annapolis. He is the best in the state of Maryland with anything between the hands in the shoulder! Guaranteed! Look him up on ratemds.com.

Dr Lashgari operated on my ac joint in my shoulder years ago. He was great!

Jessica B. replied:
Dr. Brown at Bay Area orthopedics. He'll run the gamut of treatments and PT options.
James C. replied:
Try a Strassburg Sock before you do anything radical (or expensive). It's cheap, easy, and works fast for many people including me. www.thesock.com for info. Available at local running shops. Don't get a compression sock, get this kind and wear it while you sleep. Good luck.
Carol C. replied:
I see Lance Caffiaro in Gambrils ... He doesn't tell you to stop running:)
Susan N. replied:
Fellow Strider and podiatrist Dr Charlie Markham

Katie H. replied:
Dr MCDonald orthopedic sports medicine at AAMC is awesome! Send our patients to him all the time!
Julie S. replied:
Dr. Morganti is great! She helped twice when I trained for two separate Marine Corps marathons. She helped me get well enough to return to training in time to run both. She totally gets it.
Max E. replied:
Dr Ove... Dr McDonald, Dr Morganti.. These are great recommendations! Dr Ove is a runner they are all so good it's hard to even make a recommendation! I will put it in perspective... I was hit by a car and told I'd never run again by another practice. It was really that bad and devastating! That was six years ago... Dr Ove and the pt crew really taught me how to train around the injury. Jeff Gelfand (from that practice) has worked on my ruptured bicep (unrelated). So really... The leg injuries were 6 years ago and I've done well over 30 triathlons and so many running races I can't count! The office manager Pam is just awesome! They have all emerged into being personal friends of mine. Make a consultant with that practice... they are all that good! The old office manager is my girlfriend! Maybe I get hurt a lot or just wanted to get up the courage to ask her out?
