I'm looking to get Lasik some time this year. Anyone have any recommendations for where to go in the Seattle area? I have United Healthcare, but I'd imagine they won't...

I had mine done at Sharpe Vision in Bellevue and would recommend them. Everything went just as expected. I recall that when I did my search I didn't see many options in Seattle proper. This is the type of procedure where you want to pick a place based on quality and reputation rather than location. Also, you will need to travel there at least three or four times. Once to see if you are eligible, another time for the actual procedure, and then one or two follow ups. At least that was my experience.

If the doctor or anyone in the office wears glasses, I wouldn't trust them.

haha, i read this as "laksa" and got really excited for a minute... while i'm here, anybody know where to get good laksa in seattle?

For those that have had lasik, do you have any problems staring at a computer screen or reading for long periods of time? My eyes get super dry and sore if I do it contacts, but with glasses I can read forever. I'm scared of getting lasik for the chance it might make my eyes dry out. Thanks ~

You can look up doctors, the procedure, and user reviews on www.realself.com. You can find doctors in your area (and worldwide), and see what people said about the entire experience. Disclaimer: I work for RealSelf.

King lasik. I did it last Nov and recommend their service.

My husband and I went to PCLI in Bellevue about 7 months ago (a year ago for him) and they were amazing. My insurance didn't cover them as a provider, but they gave me a 10% discount anyway for choosing them. All in all it ended up being $3200, IIRC. My vision is perfect now and I am so happy everyday I had it done! My regular eye doctor said the slices were so precise and faint that she would have barely been able to tell I had had the surgery if she hadn't known.

It's not quite in-city, but these guys have been around for quite a while: ~~King and [Mockovak](http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/clearly-lasik-co-founder-gets-20-year-sentence-for-murder-for-hire-plot/)~~ ~~Clearly Lasik~~ [King Lasik](http://www.kinglasik.com/)

Had mine done at Clearview Eye & Laser in West Seattle. http://clearviewseattle.com/ Procedure was quick and easy, and I'm happy with the results. I see at 20/20 or better (depending on how exacting the examiner is).

I'd recommend checking Vancouver, BC if you it's not too far. Exchange rate is in your favor and Vancouver is among the cheapest places in Canada to get Lasik. There should be 4+ shops within the downtown vicinity. Check out LasikMD for sure.
Getting to the age where finding a VERY good eye surgeon would be a good idea for near future. Any experience; advice would be helpful.

Lasik recommendations? My wife is considering Lasik and I was hoping one of you fine folks could give us a recommendation or two for a good place to look into.
MafHoney replied:
Another vote for Sharpe Vision... I actually never even looked anywhere else. It wasn't terribly expensive (it wasn't cheap obviously, but to not have to deal with glasses anymore? Worth way more than I paid), and Dr. Sharpe was **amazing**. I think the procedure took 5 minutes tops? But he described every single thing that was happening. I had it done a year and a half ago, and don't regret it at all. I do have to use eye drops every day now for dry eye, but the trade off was worth it.
GrooverMcTuber replied:
Don't go cheap. You get what you pay for.

I went to Sound Eye and Laser and they did a great job. http://soundeye.com/

Beware that LASIK doesn't last forever. It fades after 5 to 7 years. You will probably need glasses again eventually.

I went to Sharpe Vision in January - one of the best decisions I ever made. Their office is beautiful - super modern, the staff is great, and Dr. Sharpe is the best. Like others said, he is amazing, and describes everything as it's happening so you don't have to worry/panic! The few hours after are a little unpleasant, but just take a nap and then you are good to go! There's some aftercare for about two weeks (lots of eyedrops) and then that was it for me. I recommend them to everyone, it's life changing! Good luck!!

Sharpe Vision - Had the wavefront LASIK done about 2.5 months ago. let me know if you have any questions. I would highly recommend them - don't go anywhere else. One thing I would like to mention is that you might read a lot of reviews about how people had 20/15 a day after surgery or even a few hours after. Sure, it might be 20/15 but there is a lot of ghosting / blurriness / healing going on where my eye sight wasn't 100% up until after 6 weeks or so.

I just had this done in July at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute. http://www.pcli.com/ I did it thru referral from Dr. Moscovitz in Sammammish, that's how PCLI prefers to work. He's a great optometrist by the way. I have VSP so it cost me $3240 for bladeless laser on both eyes which I did via CareCredit no interest for 24 months. They have locations all over the west coast but they started in Chehalis and they travel between offices. I went to the Bellevue location where they do surgeries on Thursdays and the founder of PCLI did my LASIK. Now...there is a whole hidden section of the website dedicated to his Seventh Day Adventist faith, and when they take you to the back room to give you the relaxing drugs you do get asked if you would like him to pray with you before the surgery but it's asked absolutely not intrusive and non-judgmental. I said No and that was that. I wasn't made uncomfortable about it at all and the surgery went right on without a hitch 30 minutes later. It was very fast once I was in the chair for surgery, but they talked to me to explain what was going on very clearly and checked on me repeatedly in recovery. I was shocked how fast, seamless and easy it was. Someone from the office called to check up on me about 4 hours afterward and to make sure I knew there was a 24 hour contact number card in the packet they gave for me to take home in case of emergency. My follow ups with Dr. Moscovitz he's remarked that on the right eye it's nearly unnoticeable that any surgery has taken place and he's very happy with how it worked out and I'm reading 20/15 now. **TL;DR** Had it done recently. It was awesome. So happy I have a lot of words about how much I loved where I got the procedure done.

Bellevue Lasik and Cornea 3 friends and I have been there, perfects results for everyone. It's not cheap, but if you company does a FSA (flex spending account) that you can put money towards to spend on health expenses, transportation, day care, etc, it's basically tax free spending. I like saving roughly 10% on large purchases. :)

I personally had a great experience at Restore Vision Center in Renton. I had -8.5 in both eyes and I can basically see 20/20 and have been for the past 5 years.

how much should I expect to pay for this procedure? I've also been considering it, especially after hearing commercials advertising for like 1000 bucks per eye which sounds kinda cheap to me.

Jodi!! I got mine done at TLC Vision in Fargo. All TLC does is eye surgeries, and when I asked my doctor where he would send his kids he told me TLC. I just checked and there is one in Seattle. I'm 5 years into my LASIK and have nothing bad to say. I use eye drops once in a while, but not very often. It was the best money I ever spent!! Enjoy J Dog!!:)
