Andrea asks: After having to take long term strong antibiotics for a persistent skin infection, I'm now dealing with a persistent skin yeast problem. The dermatologist...
Kate B. replied:
There are simple things to try to start with that can be very effective at controlling yeast. Limit sugars. Take 3 garlic pills a day. Those two things alone can do a lot. Rebuilding is a whole other issue. If you have been on regular abx then liver support is likely warranted and definitely probiotics. Not a brand that is a handful of strains. This is a professional grade probiotics. The strongest level needs a prescription. It is expensive but worth it for those with serious issues. http://www.vsl3.com/ I don't sell it or have any vested interest in this probiotic. www.landofmilkandhoneyherbs.com
Alicia W. replied:
I know Dr Ryan at Alternatives deals with patients with yeast a lot.
Cherie A. replied:
Yeast and skin infections can be an indicator of a Candida overgrowth in the gut. This probiotic is specifically formulated to kill Candida with chitinase enzymes as well as repopulating the good bacteria killed off by the antibiotics. And it comes with a 60-day money back guarantee so it's worth a try. http://cherieayite.myplexusproducts.com/products/probio5

For many years before being introduced to natural health, dermatologists and doctors repeatedly filled me with antibiotics for skin conditions. All that did was give me yeast overload, a bad liver, and worse skin problems. Through my own studies I have been working for the past 4 years (only the last year in an actual school) to correct these problems. 20 years of damage will not be resolved overnight but I've seen more LASTING improvement in these past few years with the natural approach then I've ever had before. I also have improved in many other areas of health as well. Try dr. Patricia Ryan with Alternatives, and see a chiropractor. You can have great nutrition but if your nervous system can't communicate with your organs then the results may come more slowly and not to their fullest potential. Www.drandreaburke.com

Any dermatologists in the area who will help me figure out what's causing the eczema in my 4 month old and 4 year old?? Pedi just prescribed steroid cream...
Sara F. replied:
The eczema may be telling you your baby is reacting to something you are eating (if you are breastfeeding). In that case, I would recommend Dr. Leeper at MilkWorks in Lincoln. http://milkworks.org/
Jenny R. replied:
Yep, I have had multiple friends who used Johnson and Johnson or some similar brand who switched to using Arbonne products and it cured their eczema.
Julia W. replied:
Dr Jill Nelson at dermatology specialists of Omaha! My daughter had it bad and she's amazing! She is one of only a few pedi dermatologists in the country!!!

In search of a dermatologist and an internist for my elderly aunt. Needs to be in west Omaha, any suggestions?
Brynne H. replied:
I really like Lindsey Degenhart at Skin PC in Elkhorn.
Jonathan D. replied:
Internist? If >65, try to get in with a gerontologist. West Omaha (Alegent System) -- Heather Morgan, MD (http://www.alegentcreighton.com/body.cfm?id=139&action=detail&ref=2830) If you want full set-up, the Home Instead Center (UNMC) is full of great providers (Bill Lyons, Jane Potter, Ed Vandenberg are all A-lister's). They don't have West Omaha locations though. All centered at ~40 th & Leavenworth. http://www.unmc.edu/homeinsteadcenter/newpatients.htmRegular Internist for all adults (22+ and up) --- Mark Omar --- He's in the Methodist System at Methodist HealthWest ~156 th & Dodge. He's always rated top notch each year, so it's tough to get an "opening" for a patient. Chad Reade at the same place is a few years out of residency, though highly recommended as well. (http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mhsdoctors.com%2Fphysician-profile%2F%3Fid%3D17837&h=xAQHKzCUJ) Derm? No idea. Anywhere you can get an appointment. (Can be tough these days.)

Need a good Dermatologist in Omaha - my face is a mess...Anyone
Tiffany C. replied:
http://www.midwestderm.com/ I had Dr. Frichot. Loved him but just noticed it said he announced his retirement. No frills type office. http://www.lovelyskin.com/skin-specialists-omaha/dermatology I also saw Dr. Schlessinger. Less personable than Dr. Frichot, but knew his stuff. He also owns the Lovely Skin, huge store across from his office which is a skin care heaven - every product/makeup you could think of.
