I recommend Corpore Sanohttp://www.corporesanopt.com/ in Kenmore. Erik Moen (owner/director) is known as a "bike fitting guru" in town and works with tons of bikers and multisport athletes on injury prevention and recovery (accident injury as well as overuse). He has surely helped rehab many injuries such as yours. Good luck!

Gwen Scott at Harborview is an awesome PT and she specializes in working with runners. My Ortho docs told me I'd probably never run again after I was hit by a car and suffered severe injuries to my left leg. Gwen helped me recover and become an even stronger than I was before my injuries!

Hi Alina - I'm sorry to hear about your hip! I hope you're doing okay. Dr. Bruckner and Dr. Crutcher are solid hip surgeons: http://www.pro-osm.com/directory/people/show/james-d-bruckner and http://www.opaortho.com/staff/james-p-crutcher-jr-md. I would be happy to help you with your recovery - please let me know if I can answer any questions or get you started with rehab. daniel.h.benson@forefrontpllc.com

Edmonds Orthopedic has some excellent doctors. Dr. Cameron did my first knee surgery and Dr.Christal did my second knee surgery (and does amazing work), Dr.Lee is great too. I know some people don’t really want to see surgeons because they think that they will say surgery, even if you don’t need it, but these doctors only recommend it if they truly think it’s the best route.

Lisa, more tips: don't walk barefoot, wear good flip flops with arch supports & cushy sole in the shower, wear low shoes with good cushy support. I also saw several PT's for it but the only one who helped was Rick at Proliance Sports Therapy in Bellevue (he's the manager there). Good luck
Orthopedist recommended

Susan O. replied:
John recommends Orthopedic Physicians Associates, 206-386-2600, www.opaortho.com. Don't know about Bridgespan - you'll have to ask, but I don't see it on the list of insurance plans they DON'T work with. They're on Pill Hill somewhere. Their clinic is associated with Swedish Hospital. There are several specialists; one of them, Lawrence Holland, does the work for the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, but plenty of other sports doctors.

June S. replied:
Amanda, I had left knee replacement 9 years ago in the middle of when I was doing limited endurance riding. I had a wonderful surgeon at Providence in Portland. Dr John O'Shea at Oregon Knee Clinic. I was back on a horse in 2 months. No pain whatsoever in knee with riding now. I need to use mounting block, convenient rock or ditch to mount now.....due to lack of strength to pull by the knee into saddle. I did more endurance rides post knee replacement and it has had no effect on my trail riding except convenience of finding a place to mount! Advising you to have both done at the same time to save time of physical therapy and healing. It is pretty much hell for 2 months, but totally worth it. There is NO pain in knees while riding post knee replacement.
Aarene S. replied:
My best advice: do as much physical therapy PRIOR TO SURGERY as you can. Stronger going into the procedure means quicker coming back after.
Becky B. replied:
Aarene Storms' blog is haikufarm.blogspot.com - I think she even has a label of "hip surgery". I can't speak for her - but if I had to go out on a limb, I'm thinking she might even wish she'd done it a bit earlier? She was in a lot of pain at the end, and I think she thought recovery would be worse than it was... and, oh, I dunno. She is totally honest about everything in her blog, as well as very systematic and open about the whole process (as well as about everything in her life - she's just awesome.)
